1:29 It always makes me laugh when people want “250 miles of highway range” on a lease. If you’re driving anywhere near that far on a daily basis you’re going to blow through your mileage cap halfway through the lease.
Most people could get away with significantly less range if home charging, especially on a lease.

Get the Mach e premium. You’ll get close to 300 miles and access to Tesla superchargers

I recently leased a Lexus NX 450h + with top trim for $28,000 one-time payment for 36 months that was discounted by $7500 and no state tax in Texas. (Actually $21K less for trade in so $7000 for 3 years total.) Incredibly nice car with 37 miles of electric range which for my use case covers 99% of daily use. Since I took possession have used a few oz of gasoline but if needed for road trip range is 550 miles plus. It accelerates quite briskly just on electric motors. My wife and I love this car and perfect compliment to 2022 VW ID.4 RWD PRO S.

Show just ended but I really want to touch on that last question, while the other suggestions were great, Mike didn't mention if the 3 days a week 240mile commute are consecutive and I'd be worried about a back to back commute on all those options that contain only 9.6kw or 11kw onboard chargers as you'd be cutting it close to charge up for the next day of another 240mile highway commute with a buffer . The Polestar 4 I mentioned at the end can rip from 10%->100% in less than 5 hours on its incredibly potent 22kw onboard charger paired with a 240v80amp level 2. You could probably use that for peak offload hours charging overnight with your electric company to save even more (like 5$ USD to charge at those super off peak hours) as an added bonus.

That EQS 580 looks like a steal at $76K. Mine has rear wheel steering, massage seats, and fragrance dispenser at $133K new. Depreciation is awful so I savor every minute of driving.

Sadly no heat pump in the ID4 or the Mach-E. If you live where it gets cold I would keep looking. I wouldn't accept anything without a heat pump. the winter hit is too big. The 2025 Ioniq 5, and 6, EV6 should be getting a bigger battery and NACS, has the heat pump. 800v architecture, battery preconditioning. Downside is the navigation and software still stink. That would probably be the play that would fit for the Edge replacements. The Ultium stuff still does not charge well so I would hold off on the GM products.
In the Luxury space that Lucid sure looks appealing. However there are concerns about it's charging issues with the current infrastructure. But I would love to be in a Lucid if money weren't an obstacle.

A heat pump is a $1,500 option on the VW ID. 4 in Canada. Weird that they don't offer it in the US as well. The resistive heater on the Mustang Mach-E has reportedly been improved, but we haven't seen any cold-weather testing yet.

@@BatteriesIncludedPodcast VW can’t offer heat pump in USA because the refrigerant it uses is not approved for use in USA and they haven’t redesigned it or gotten approval. Kinda weird but true.

When I drove all through Colorado twice on a recent road trip, I saw only a few Rivians. About what you'd see on a commute in Seattle.

Road trips are a stupid american invention, in Europe you might go 200km-300km away a few times, and once a year maybe 1000km.. for that you can rent an ice car if stopping 3x35 min is to long for you..
