    I am a dad trying to to make highlight videos of my daughter playing basketball for scouts/coaches. I know coaches want to see the overhead shots to see how my daughter is making choices on the court, but I want to spice it a bit. Can you do a video dedicated to dad’s like me? I really like what you did in this video too! Thanks for your help!

      I’ve been using Musicbed for my music for the last few months and they have lots of good variety so I’d suggest checking there to see if you like anything. I’ve also gotten some decent SFX from freesound.org so consider looking at that too.

    Hello Peter! Thks for your tips I have a question. I just made a basket video from a match with fx30 and Rs3 gimbal for stabilization. How do you do get stabilisation shots without? Cause I'm not effective to follow rapid action like basketball handball etc. I saw you don't use gimbal. How do you do? Please. And again Thks for all

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually put a camera strap on pulling it tight around my neck when filming and use active stabilization. A lot of the lenses I use have stabilization built in as well. Between all of that I’m generally able to get pretty steady handheld footage even at longer focal lengths

    This is excellent info. Thank you!!! Is there a certain lens you use for the entire game or do you switch up? I’m filming games this season for a high school and I was thinking of getting the 70-200 for it but I’m not sure if that’ll be the only lens I use.

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The one lens that I feel really confident using for a full game when filming basketball (especially on a crop sensor) is the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 because of its wide focal range. On a full frame camera I’ve used a 70-200mm f4 for a full game and it’s been fine though you do have to step back when someone gets a bit too close to you

    • @studio817withmissjae3
      @studio817withmissjae3 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@petersarellas thank you so much for replying. I actually watched your review of the Tamron 35-150 this morning and I totally agree with you. It’s hard to catch close shots with the 70-200. I appreciate everything you share with us on this page.

  • @Enveonline

    For basketball what size mm lense are you using? 24-70mm?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this game I mostly used the Tamron 28-75mm in APS-C crop mode but if shooting full frame I find myself more frequently using the Sony 70-200mm f4

      @laurena.stevens2355 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@petersarellas Hey Peter! I hope all is well.. Quick question for ya.. Did you ever find it helpful/unhelpful to use a 70-200 in APS-C while in crop mode? I’m using the Canon R7 and have a canon 70-200 f2.8 w/ built in IS. I also have a 24-70 (no IS) and was hoping to use the 70-200 since it has built in IS… This set up would mean I’m cropped in super duper close though :/ Interested in hearing your thoughts on this.. Thanks for these very helpful videos btw

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@laurena.stevens2355 hi Laurena, I often use the 70-200mm in crop mode when filming football but not basketball. I do use the Tamron 28-75mm in crop sensor mode sometimes for court sports and find it to be a good focal length so you could do so with your 24-70mm. The Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 could also be a great lens for basketball on a crop sensor camera so consider that one as well.

    I would like to know if your recording all the way through the entire event. If not when do you take a break from recording. I feel like I have to record all the way through to get as much as possible but other times I feel like it’s a waste of battery and memory. Thoughts?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s really about understanding what you’re producing from the event and who will be using the content and then shooting accordingly. That said, I’ll usually be present for the entire event but film in shorter clips rather than just keep it rolling for the entire event since with spots you never know when something good may happen. Whether or not you may or may not film ancillary events around the actual game all depends on your goals for the content you’re making. Hope this helps.

    How do you finish the video for a team that's just lost the match?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Similar way, still try to capture lots of emotions related to the outcome of the game (even if those emotions are sad). Obviously you have to approach the situation differently with regard to how close you get when filming as emotions can run high after a loss, so that may impact your lens choices, but having the visual is still a good thing as it may come in handy to tell a bigger story down the road.
