This is hands down my favorite ship to play solo in. It isn’t amazing at any one thing, but it’s acceptable at just about everything. If I was actually in the SC universe, this is the first ship I would want to call my own.

I had to give up the Cutty though and I went back to the penguin and to be honest, don't discount the Taurus or the Freelancer for bounties. Those guns will surprise you.
@PoptartInvasion There's a ship (Made by Drake too) called the Buccaneer, and if you want to, you can fill every last one of its 6 hardpoints with ballistic shotguns.

Yeah I use to own the Freelancer MIS. Great ship for doing what ever missions you want with its multirole capabilities and can throw missiles all day long. I initially leaned towards the Cutty Black, but went with the MIS.

The Cutty doesn't need a toilet...it's a flying porta-potty with guns, just crap in the corner. (Or out the side door). Jokes aside... it's a really great ship, but I will take the Connie over it any day
Best competition for the cutlass black is a Nomad: One less gun but fully 50% better turn and yaw rates, can haul a ROC, bikes, or a cyclone, bonus quantum fuel capacity (but still s1 so...) and onlu hauls 8 less SCU All for 400k less. Handles exactly like an avenger titan with an extra shield to boot. Used to make fun of the Nomad. Now I kinda love it.
- 1 less gun - 1 less TURRET with 2 guns - 3 SMALL shields that can reach about slightly above HALF the shield of the Cutlass - 1/4 of the missile load of a cutlass But yea, it's a lot more nimble.

The Cutlass turret isn't really worth it to crew, unlike the Hurricane. -When physicalized components come in, 3 shields means more redundancy, rather than having a single point of failure, like the Cutlass. Small components are also cheaper and easier to service. The Nomad's survivability comes from having a smaller cross section, and greater maneuverability. I wouldn't want to dogfight a Nomad in a Cutlass. -It's actually 1/3 the missile load of the Cutlass. The Nomad has 8 size 2, and the Cutlass has 24 size 2 equivalent. The Nomad also has better amenities; a galley and a bathroom.
When I played Elite, your videos were required viewing before any ship purchase. So glad to see you've made your way over to SC. I pledged back at the beginning of time, but only started playing regularly a couple months ago. Your timing is impeccable.
@@niklasdahlgren7641 The Nomad is specifically a solo ship, whereas the Cutty really is a multi-crew ship. That's why CIG nerfed its maneuverability, so you actually benefit from using the turret. As for the exterior cargo bed, I've had rovers get shot up but never purchased cargo.

Man a year later and this video is still relevant! They may have fixed the other bugs, but then we got the 3.18 ass spike mounted to the pilot's seat. And yet I still loved this ship too.
The Cutty kinda reminds me of the DCS MiG21. She tries to kill you in every way imaginable, but when she does what you want her to do, it's very satisfying :)

I love that you came back with ship reviews :) Looking forward to see more of them. Cutlass range of ships are one of the best all-rounders in the game. I had Red, Black and now I have the Blue one. The true Police Ship with blue/red lights and interdictor. It needs fixing, only 2 km range, but this is the true space cop vessel :) In a Cutlass Black I even helped destroy Idris Xeno, multiple times, lost an engine, but still alive. It's not that agile for PvP, but good capacitor for NPC bounties, up to VHRT's. 3.16 fixed the weird place of quantum targeting, at least in Cutlass Blue. New atmospheric bounties are good, but not well implemented, still needs a lot of work. Take care Pilot and see you in the Verse or looking for more videos :)
Oh I couldn't agree with you anymore! I've tried to replace it, and I swore that I wasn't going to buy one after the wipe, but it fills a roll no other ship can. So here I am flying it everyday!
What's funny is that the bugs and unreliability perfectly fits the lore for Drake ships. Built from duct tape, 100-mile-an-hour cord and aluminum foil. The Cuttie is like that old beat up station wagon, ya aunt or uncle still drives. Takes 5 minutes to start up with few key twist, enough gas pedal pumps and making sure the radio is off. I'm an odd one, so I do prefer the Freelancer myself.

I absolutely love this video Pilot! You made a masterpiece! I will say, a side not on when you said you aren't entirely sure if the VTOL engines actually do anything. I thought the same thing until a situation I had. I was coming into Grim Hex from the dark side and couldn't see where I was flying too well, probably going a little faster that I should of been. When I opened my mobi to signal for landing my right side clipped one of those long black set of wires running from the main asteroid to one of the smaller outer ones. It took off my right front wing and my entire right engine. I began to spin out of control bad. I had to give it gas to get into the hanger but every time I did the ship would spin and roll and there was nothing I could do to stop it. By chance I decided to flip the VTOL down for the only engine I had left in a last ditch effort to land in the hanger for repairs before I smacked the side of the rock and it actually paid off. For some reason flipping the VTOL down with only one engine operational stabilized the Cutty just enough to where I could manage it and make a controlled crash landing in my assigned hangar. It was far from perfect but it was a HUGE difference in control after that and if I didn't do that by chance I 100% woulda slammed into Grim Hex and died lol. Not sure that's how they were intended to be used at all, but for anyone flying the Cutty black and you happen to find yourself in a similar situation with a ship full of cargo and engine loss causing an uncontrolled spin, flip that engine down into VTOL and "hover" fly it to safety. It'll save your life and your cargo.

Just as a hint: You can pull yourself into the ship at the side doors. It's a bit tricky though, your positioning must be right but that feature is in.
Amazing video, Pilot. Some of the things you ponder have certain answers. To understand the why, you'll need a whole other ship. You'll need a time machine, because most of your ponderings have their answer back in 2019 and in the before times. The engines use to operate independently. If you watch the trailer for the ship it demonstrates this function but it was nerfed away. In 2019 it was an amazing small cargo, fighter and vehicle drop ship with TWO shields and it's maneuverability made it almost twice as nimble as it is now. That too was nerfed away. It was glorious. It use to be the F150, Warthog, sporting 6, M61 20mm miniguns that you could kill Black Beard with just before you picked up the groceries. It was too much of everything. I loved it. They went too far with the nerf job on the Cutty and now it's too little of everything. As for the ramp, I jump out the side doors and most places allow you to jump back in with a double jump. Any damage on the door or opening it atop objects on the ground seem to bug it out. The only way to understand this ship is to understand where it came from but the past is the past. I fly the Valk now. That is HOME and it has a bathroom -- with a door. You're right to doubt the Cutty Black. It's a shell of what it was in the day and that's why this alpha journey, in Star Citizen, is the reward. I love your panning, brother.

You forgot to include the exploding cargo ramp of 3.16.1. A TRULY dynamic and invigorating feature!!!! And great new take on Russian Roulette. AWESOME VIDDY. I loved it. I also love/hate my cutty.
I would give up any of my other ships first. I DO want a red though. It used to serve as a re-spawn point now it just gives the lowest class healing... so I want an Apollo as well! Great video. Nice to know you are back.

All around great video, in all aspects. Edit to add: The Cutlass is one of largest ships that can be easily solo'd. Larger ships start needing more crew to be as effective. And smaller ships are, well, smaller.
MSR, significantly larger easier to fly than the CB. An M2 is Way larger and easier to fly. The Pilot is right about the CB, for some reason we like it and hate it also.
@@mikeoxlong4391 I haven't flown a MSR or C2 yet. For some reason I didn't think to rent an try them during the expo. I did rent a Argo RAFT and promptly crashed it straight into Port Tressler. It was the first time I piloted a ship larger than the CB and I didn't take the additional mass into account.
Your ship reviews are always high quality & well planned you make me want this ship & fear it at the same time. It's probably been said but it's the Christine of spaceships.
Fantastic editing! Cutty black is still my go-to for duo play. Also that engine glitch can be rectified by claiming the ship at another port... annoying, yes, considering the engines fall off if something sneezes at them.

Good video. First few points were bugs probably that will be fixed. Engines are legit targets in battle, hopefully this adds some flavor when we are able to repair our own ships.
Wanted to add, there’s been some changes between 3.15 and 3.16. I guess some stuff with the cutlass steel was worked in. Also if you lose a front stabilizer be very careful on planets as it will nose right into the ground.

Just as a hint: You can pull yourself into the ship at the side doors. It's a bit tricky though, your positioning must be right but that feature is in.
I love that other people don't like this ship. I like flying unique ships. And I can make it outperform any ship you throw at me.

Amazing video, Pilot. Some of the things you ponder have certain answers. To understand the why, you'll need a whole other ship. You'll need a time machine, because most of your ponderings have their answer back in 2019 and in the before times. The engines use to operate independently. If you watch the trailer for the ship it demonstrates this function but it was nerfed away. In 2019 it was an amazing small cargo, fighter and vehicle drop ship with TWO shields and it's maneuverability made it almost twice as nimble as it is now. That too was nerfed away. It was glorious. It use to be the F150, Warthog, sporting 6, M61 20mm miniguns that you could kill Black Beard with just before you picked up the groceries. It was too much of everything. I loved it. They went too far with the nerf job on the Cutty and now it's too little of everything. As for the ramp, I jump out the side doors and most places allow you to jump back in with a double jump. Any damage on the door or opening it atop objects on the ground seem to bug it out. The only way to understand this ship is to understand where it came from but the past is the past. I fly the Valk now. That is HOME and it has a bathroom -- with a door. You're right to doubt the Cutty Black. It's a shell of what it was in the day and that's why this alpha journey, in Star Citizen, is the reward. I love your panning, brother.

Ships generally do pitch downward at least a bit in-atmo if you're not actively countering it. I guess you mean the Cutlass does it more.

Also you're supposed to use VTOL in atmospheric flight. Helps a lot with handling.

Edit to add: The Cutlass is one of largest ships that can be easily solo'd. Larger ships start needing more crew to be as effective. And smaller ships are, well, smaller.
MSR, significantly larger easier to fly than the CB. An M2 is Way larger and easier to fly. The Pilot is right about the CB, for some reason we like it and hate it also.
@@mikeoxlong4391 I haven't flown a MSR or C2 yet. For some reason I didn't think to rent an try them during the expo. I did rent a Argo RAFT and promptly crashed it straight into Port Tressler. It was the first time I piloted a ship larger than the CB and I didn't take the additional mass into account.
Your ship reviews are always high quality & well planned you make me want this ship & fear it at the same time. It's probably been said but it's the Christine of spaceships.
Fantastic editing! Cutty black is still my go-to for duo play. Also that engine glitch can be rectified by claiming the ship at another port... annoying, yes, considering the engines fall off if something sneezes at them.

Good video. First few points were bugs probably that will be fixed. Engines are legit targets in battle, hopefully this adds some flavor when we are able to repair our own ships.
You need to make more videos like this. My god this is brilliant. I don't even play star citizen but I felt it😅
Wanted to add, there’s been some changes between 3.15 and 3.16. I guess some stuff with the cutlass steel was worked in.
Also if you lose a front stabilizer be very careful on planets as it will nose right into the ground.
I saw. I hate the new button thing for the cargo door. But at least they mostly fixed the quantum UI.
