He isn't really playing by ear, the song is "Dueling Banjos" you can find the scene in the movie "Deliverance" which shows a guitar player and a banjo player playing this. But you need someone on a similar wavelenght as you to play this kind of thing live .
I think they both happened to know the same song (or are in the same band and rehearsing, hard to tell). Either way both players are quite good and nearly or are professional. This banjo part requires years of about 2-4 hours a night of practice to be able to pull off (for most people), it's very hard.
@@swordthrower2035 few musicians use music sheets while playing. They both learned the song before, what most of the people in the comments are implying by saying "by ear" is that the banjo player doesn't know the song, I am just saying he knows it which means he is playing "by memory" and has to remember the notes, when he makes a mistakes he isn't thinking "I didn't follow the guitar player" he is thinking "It's not what the song was". this happened onec but i did not record it to TH-cam i had a banjo and my friend had a guitar and let me tell you it took us months to do that song and when we got it we did it somewhere where there is not a lot of peaple
Why don’t you usually take the train? Trains are pretty neat lol
You clearly haven’t seen the greatest sax battle on a metro train in new York
@o U SP if someone is so strong, that they can just take the train,
i would let them have it😅
Haha amen
The fact this is on a moving train is even better.
Music really does raise a smile on everyone's face and brings people together.
The banjo is definitely one of the coolest instruments on the planet.
2:10 **stop playing the guitar** "I'm lost"
tbh would you try going up against that? no u wouldn't
It's part of the bit. Y'all've never seen Deliverance?
@@eliwhite5548 never seen what now
@@crowthebro Deliverance. Its a movie. Look up "Deliverance dueling banjos scene"
“God you play a mean banjo”
*attempts to shake hand
That man plays by ear so freaking well, that's a level of musical talent I could never even hope to achieve
@@Praephyr thats what playing by ear is, knowing how to play without a music sheet which is what these guys are doing
You can learn or repeat by ear but I don't consider using your memory as "by ear".
@@swordthrower2035 playing by ear means you are trying to copy what you are earing on the moment, you are learning as you are playing, my brother and I sometimes played things on the guitar and I would play what he was teaching me on the moment chord after chord, that's what it is. This isn't replaying what you already know.
It took 7 years for TH-cam to recommend this to me . Glad it finally did
8 for me 😂
it took me 8
Saw these lads at the Sage in Newcastle a while back- brilliant musicians
1:30 you can see them deeply thinking about how they're going to approach this
And it sounded amazing.

Makes you think Deliverance will be a fun movie
This is so good it should be a scene in a movie. But maybe not taking place in a train, just for the setting... Maybe something more outside?
That’s girl in the seat in front of him couldn’t take her eyes off you
Bet she wishes she could play her banjo that fast
shes about 2 seconds of sliding of that seat.

As a true southerner; I approve of this amazing music. You fellas would be welcome down here in Texas any day.
Yeah reminds me of that one song…”if you’re gonna play in Texas, ya gotta have a banjo in the band.”

@@uhlspetznaz I know, I was being sarcastic because TX is not especially known for banjo music.
@HEY 4Q2 I said a true southerner...Never met a communist except online.
I think our southern music has influenced the very posh British!.
Interesting how some of the first notes played are the last in the song. The banjist knew what he was doing before they did.
Weird fact, the kid in the film The Deliverance couldn’t play banjo, they had another kid put his arms around from his back and play.
Imagine getting picked for a movie not because you were good at acting but because you looked incestuous
