Once again, so many amazing vinyl dens that are impeccably organized as well as very inviting and inspiring rooms. Bravo to everyone that submitted photos and descriptions of their unique personalized spaces! :)
That full-house collection of collections (LPs, CDs, DVDs/Blu-rays, books) is more than "awesome," it's quite literally awe-inspiring. I dig some of those early Technics linear-tracking turntables. I have one model (SL-J2, 1984-1988) that's programmable like a CD player, but my favorite is the SL-7 (1981-1983), which has a metal base and is much heavier and sturdier (and it has curved "dust cover" lid that's curved around the platter -- very Jetsons-looking!).
Wow Frank, these vinyl den shows just seem to show how all ages are embracing music and vinyl. - so many amazing rooms to look around !! You must be now, one of the go-to places for music dens. As always, thank you for sharing... I reckon I watch each vinyl den show at least 3 times !! Top stuff.
@SpyderTracks thanks - I have to agree - its like heaven. .it's my decompression room. I have another one upstairs (not shown in the video) that is warm and cozier ..plants, furniture, etc..(and the big tv) but I spend a couple hours in that record room every night - just listening.
@@waltonstreet5740 mate, I just love it, the collection front row and center, I get a real kick of looking though my records, so want them in the room on display, each one has a memory attached to the music and the record itself, and that’s what music is for me, it unlocks memories and emotions. Bravo, thanks for showing it!
As usual, you've featured a number of interesting vinyl dens. I appreciate that you feature both the more novice collector (as with Gavin this week) who will no doubt feature his own vinyl den one day, to the extreme craftsmanship of Brain Roth's personal designs = very impressive; speakers built "using Baltic birch stacked and chambered", to that absolute stunning homemade tele at 10:58 = gorgeous...and all of the room designs in between. Wow! Dave has quite the HUMONGOUS collection (or should I say “hoard”?). At 62, I am preparing ahead of time for my ultimate demise and am in the process of liquidating all of my holdings, especially my vinyl and CD’s because no one in my entire family has any interest in the stuff. Therefore, I REFUSE to pay the ridiculous prices for much of the new vinyl; it’s just insane to put so much money into those! I am keeping only what I REALLY enjoy listening to and selling off the rest. Always love your videos, Frank!
Great video, Frank. Wow! Music, movies and books, Dave's house is a cool treat for the mind, body and soul. I'm new to the VC. I posted my first video about 14 days ago. It was a response to the Noble Records Summer Tag. Seemed like a good way to dive in. At the top of my of video I give a shout out to the channels I had been watching that inspired me to start my own, and you were one of them. Thanks for that. I dig your channel. Cheers. Bobby
Howdy Frank, I know a guy that was so into music, when it came time to get his driver license, he had a problem. If he got his license, he'd need to buy gas, buy a car(?), maintain the car and pay for insurance. All of which would cost him significant money. Or he could not get his license, save all that money, take public transportation and friendly rides. He didn't get his license so all that money could be funneled toward music.🎶🎸
I can say that I'm not one of those people that sold out years ago for CD's I still have the first 45 I got at the local K Mart in Tennessee along with my cassette tapes . Never went into the CD thing.
The Basement Experience? We have few or none here in California but I remember visiting a friend in North Bay, Ont. who had a nice below ground setup, but it definitely had that musty smell. I suppose there's a way to avoid that & be immersed in your music & maybe some incense to complete the '70's classic rock experience.
Yea Frank. I have seen those kinds of turntables. My father actually had one. Sorry. I never went 4 K. Well, CDs 📀 make more sense. But I did enjoy my brush with vinyl. Too bad the store I went to is gone now.
Hey Gavin, I see that little tiny R2-D2 on your desk is that a cassette player? If it is, I have the same one and my kids and I listen to music on it when we’re outside in the garden.
Very cool vinyl dens. Ortofon carts are very nice but I didn't care for the inner-groove distortion of the 2M Red so I upgraded to the 2M Blue and it's much better.
Great stuff featured as always, Frank...but...and I' know this is weird, but have you ever featured or even received a vinyl dens submission from a female collector? I don't remember ever seeing one on these, surely they're out there...there's quite a few in the VC...have a great week!
I have never had a Vinyl Dens submission from a woman! Every month I go through the emails ... just to check and nothing... Hopefully one of these days! I would love to showcase rooms from both sexes.
In the half century or so I've been collecting records and playing with audio gear, I'd estimate that of the women I've known, pretty much all enjoyed listening to music and a very significant number were musicians and singers. But the ones who actively collect, put effort into their gear and would enthusiastically rearrange their living space to set up a dedicated vinyl den, I think I could count on one hand and still have a finger or two left over. My guess is that are many ladies whose collections and players reside in lovely spaces they've created for themselves where they listen and enjoy, but it hasn't occurred to them to call it a vinyl den. Hopefully, some will notice that their spaces really would be appreciated by others and will choose to share them with us.
You have to cue it up and progress over the spot if you want to keep going. The times it's happened to me is because of a tiny speck in the grooves...I just stop the record - clean it off - and replay the song. I don't think I have any records with a non fixable skip.
I haven't had that..and they are used all the time. My only issue so far is I need to do a calibration adjustment...if an album is really long, the player lifts the needle before the very end. It rarely happens but it's annoying. I've found that they navigate warps extremely well. Unplayable on a traditional table is often playable on the linear.
Aren't we all insane collectors? I thought about buying a whole box of $1 78s at a record store, but then I realized, that's a lot of records and I don't have a 78 player. Doe Kev like Prague rock?
@@Channel33RPM Figuratively speaking. again.....to amass a huge vinyl collection takes years and a nice stereo system is pricey and takes time to evolve into something decent. I get it, it's all relative. Maybe I'm just a working class stiff but thats been my experience. Cheers..
All collectors are a bit insane, myself included, because collecting is a disease, more or less, but a fun disease at that. Haha! Collecting can easily become hoarding, but the classic difference between collectors and hoarders is hoarders typically own little to nothing of value (if one watches those 'Hoarders' TV episodes), many things are broken, they live in filth, their homes or dwellings are in ill-repair, etc. versus collectors that own things of value, they often organize their collection, and they often display things well, but like hoarders, they do have a lot of stuff because that's where their passions lie. They both face an accumulation problem.
Funny what people consider "insane" If you have accumulated billions of DOLLARS, you're revered. Admired. Considered a genius even. Collect a thousand records, you're insane.

The shrink used in the 70s and before could contract over time.. I haven't seen any evidence of that happening from the 80s up though. I leave it on to keep the covers as minty as possible (i also use outers)

This one is for Tom.

He has the poster next to his turn table;$
What do you think of the newer album?
I love the new album music, not a big fan of the recording. Southeastern sounds so much better.
I would be curious to know if you would experience fewer skips and/or annoying repeats with those linear turntables.
You have to cue it up and progress over the spot if you want to keep going. The times it's happened to me is because of a tiny speck in the grooves...I just stop the record - clean it off - and replay the song. I don't think I have any records with a non fixable skip.
Only issue with a linear tt is when the stylus gets stuck in a position. Then it carves the record.
