Very very cool video Frank!! I was in the West Edmonton mall many years ago.... before I got back into vinyl again. It's something to see for sure. Thanks for the site seeing tour of Jasper and Calgary..... two places I'll more than likely never see. Ohhhh well. That record store looks amazing!!! I picked up that RSD Prince Lp but haven't cracked it open yet. I can't wait to hear your review of it. Keep on spinning Frank 👍
Yes good to see you other places besides the basement. Mix it up more...it was fun. Some of us dont get to go on vacation...but I have been going to see local bands play again after many years. I forgot how fun that is.
I like trying to buy records on vacation. Then you have a particular memory tied to that record. So whenever you listen to that record in the future you can always think back to that trip.
2:15 It's always important to fuel up with some delicious food before a thrift store hunt or record store shop, Frank. That looked amazing. Mmmmmmmmm. :)
LOL I made a whole reply on someone else's comment all about Gyros, including how to pronounce it. It's a per peeve of mine cause almost everyone says it wrong. Sounds like ""yee-rows" Roll the R...
Haven't checked distances in Canada on the map recently but this looks like an "Are we there yet?" journey. :) Glad to see you had fun. Those record stores looked a bit overwhelming -- this coming from a guy that misses those full shelves back in the 80s and 90s.
It was a very long journey (1200 to 1400 kms one way - about 12 to 14 hours). When we lived out there, we used to drive back and forth almost every year, so I got used to it. I can probably rate every rest stop, gas station and washroom along the way...
Nice looking restaurant! Easily could use one day in that in that "Recordland" store!!?! My wife would hate that place. mr. Finglish (Bäd English Recs)
Hi Frank, not checked in with the channel for a few weeks, but this was an unexpectedly cool vid, nice to see you enjoying time with the family and getting a record fix. All the best,,👍
Hi Frank Canada looks amazing your so lucky to live there, I saw Jeff Beck live at Ronnie Scott's on the video you should have picked that up Frank it's a great album. Hope you're all well all the best from Rob in the UK 🇬🇧.
It's in the blood... and record buying is my drug of choice. Gotta luv those round spinning music makers. Peace n luv 2 everyone, from the land down under x
One of my top 5 arcade games. Joust, Burgertime, Moon Patrol, Ms Pac Man, Q Bert. In that order. *You can buy Emulators now for like $200 with 50, 000 oldschool video games on it. All the arcade and also home console games ever made. The exact games. Do a little research on TH-cam and you'll find the info you need to order one. The one with the glowing skull is the one ya want. I wont name the specific name.
I don't fool myself, there is no way I can keep a promise like that, I just can't pass by a record store and not stop and check it out. Wow Recordland is amazing!!!
This was a great video for me. I live near Edmonton and have been meaning to check out Record Collector's Paradise, just haven't made the trip. And I LOVE Recordland in Calgary, go there with my friend whenever I go out to see him! Great stuff, kind of felt this video was for me haha
Way to go Sunrise.Pretty much the last man standing. They acquired HMV and also FYE chain down here in the U.S.A. Not bad. Some good business sense going on there.
Hey Frank, Calgarian here! On your next trip here as good as Recordland is you really should check out Turn it up records Jerry the store owner carry’s a wide variety of music and has a very good used metal section along with his wall of fame always something good there those are my go to’s here!
"The Sword" are from Austin, Texas and they are great. Gotta check out songs like "Tres Brujas" "Lawless Lands" "The Warp Riders". It's Metal/Doom Metal with a ZZ Top influence.
I had it on cassette as well. I bought it at Walgreen's Drug Store back when they had a small music section. Cassettes were being phased out because CDs were all the rage. I got it in the Dollar bin. Bought it cause the cover was cool and it had a Floyd cover of a great song. That cassette stayed in my car stereo on repeat for many months. I was addicted to that album. It was like hearing music fir the first time. One of those moments you have when your in high school and music is everything. I still play it regularly 30 something years later. Everybody should own a copy, or steam it.
Loved the video! I have been curious about checking out Record Collectors Paradise when I am in Edmonton. Also you will be pleased to hear there are a few Donaire and Shawarma places here in Winnipeg
Hey Frank, enjoyed the video. May have to check out Recordland next time we get out to Calgary. The Family and I have an upcoming trip to Minneapolis. Anyone have any suggestions for Record shops in that area?
It's been awhile since I've been to Minneapolis, but I think Electric Fetus is the must-see record store there. Perhaps someone else will weigh in with more suggestions.
Great video Frank. We have Donor Kebab in the UK. I'm not a fan, but my friend lives them. I suspect Sunrise is only one floor as they will only keep a minimum stock now. The times they have changed. Wow, you got the Prince RSD Hold. Missed out on that one.
I think you are right about Sunrise... times are changing. Honestly, I don't know how they can even afford rent on one floor. I was very surprised to see Prince on the shelf. Buying that one was a no-brainer. Thanks for watching!
I think the reason why we aren’t hearing anything about KK’s Priest is because the album was just…ok… I thought it was decent but it didn’t have longevity in my playlist unfortunately.
Never heard of Voivon . I looked them up and I did not know the Pink cover they did. It is to bad you can come to the U.S. for a bit. We have the most record store in one country. Almost 2000. Here in Cincinnati we have( I know of) 6 or so. I live a 15 min walk from one and where I work is a 5 min walk from Moles records. I don't know how old Moles is,but I started going there in the 90's.
Oh man... I used to go to the US once or twice a year (we are just an hour's drive from the border). I've seen a fair bit of the country, but unfortunately it's been a pain to cross the border since COVID. Hopefully again soon! Next US stop will be LA!
My local store. You can easily lose a couple to 4 hours in there just checking out the bins. Good people and great records in there; and yes, they can get very pricey! EROC at the Super Flea Market is a lot smaller, but still has great records to buy. Good decision going to Donair Station, too!!
I used to like checking out EROC when we lived in Edmonton (well - that whole flea market was cool). Glad to hear they are still in business. My fav was Freecloud. Unfortunately, they were closed the free evening I had.
I wish I could go to record stores, We have a couple of good ones here. The problem is my legs just get so sore if I stand or walk 10 minutes. I wish stores had a couple of chairs for us handicap to sit down. One store use to have a sofa, chairs and magazines. I could shop there a half a day.
oh my I could be in Recordland for a whole day or more. When you first walked into Recordland it looked alot like Toronto's Record Peddler's warehouse.
Oh man... I don't really have a list per se, as most of those records are out of my price range nowadays, and I have pretty much given up on getting them. Records such as Van Halen's Balance and Motley Crue's first album on Leathur Records. One of the more common records would be a UK of Ozzy's Talk of the Devil.
Gimme gimme gimme that Best of Sword. Yes, they are a Canadian band. Opened for Motorhead at the Hammersmith Odeon back in 1987. They are getting ready to release their third album called 'III' later this year. That's some damn fine heavy metal right there.
Hey Frank - Great Video. I love the "travelogue" type of stuff that you do; you should do more of it. At any rate, I finally found a "Tragically Hip" CD in a Goodwill in Phoenix. I found UP TO HERE for $.99 - I have heard their name a lot, since I listen to quite a few Canadian podcasts and TH-camrs - but while knowing that they exist, I had no idea what they were like. I figured I'd roll the dice for a buck. I did the same thing with a Phish album (HOIST) at a library book sale decades ago, and haven't looked back - really love them to this day. Anyway, it's an okay album, but being new to The Tragically Hip sound, is this one of their better albums, one of their not-so-good ones, or somewhere in the middle? I probably sound like a complete knob, but really needed to hear them so I could see if they were worth pursuing. Finding their stuff is not easy in The States. Take Care and Be Well.
I not only bought records in Vermont while on vacation, I also scored a pair of Celestion sl700s and just told my wife, two weeks later. We were listening to music and she noticed that they looked different 😬
Sword are an awesome Canadian metal band. They are from the Montreal area with two excellent albums. First was Metallized in 1986 and they had some decent international success. Their second album was Sweet Dreams in 1988 and they toured NA with WASP & Metal Church. I think you would like them.
I really enjoy your channel. You seem like a great man with a cool obsession and family. Best wishes to you sir! Tony F. Corpse (Post Mortem Superstar) PS- excellent Voivod pickups! Voivod decimates. I've been a fan since 1987.
My wife and I were on our honeymoon in 1986, in Vancouver, B.C. I discovered some record stores and they all had a 45 rpm 7" section. I found mostly re-issue 45's there but many were in stereo, whereas many had never been issued commercially on stereo 45's in the U.S. I was like a kid in a candy store! I believe the 45's were from the DJ Record Service or maybe the stores were named that? I walked out with a bag full of Canadian re-issue 45's. One cool thing about Canadian 45's, they were all made of vinyl. In the U.S., many 45's were made of polystyrene. It depended on who and where they were pressed.
@@Channel33RPM There was a shopping mall in Vancouver , the likes I've never seen before. It was all underground and had 3 levels. It was located underneath old buildings which were there long before the mall was created. The closest thing to a large underground mall was I've been to before was in Denver, CO, and it was located under a strip mall.. On a trip a couple of years ago when we went to visit Mt. Rushmore, the was a "Malls of America" around there and it was like a ghost town. A record store was listed in the directory, but I think it was gone also.
Damn, at min 5:04 you scrolled over a great independent hip hop record from the late 90s, called FDP (black generic + white-ish sticker)... i would have picked that one up, but as in every genre, you cant know em all... same goes for me ☺️🎶✌️ (that wax isnt a high priced one, but kinda seldom seen and got 2 great tracks on it)
My collection has been "pretty much" "filled in" for the past year or so.... But whenever my wife comes home and sees new records or CD's, she will ask me- "were those on your list?" , and I say "sure!" 😄 Then she says 🤔 "I think you look for CD's and records and then add them to your list, so you can cross them out!!" 😲 Your honor, I can neither confirm nor deny that statement!! 😁😁😁 Great vid, Frank, looks like an awesome trip. 👍
As always, love the channel, Frank. I’m just glad you’re not in Greektown, state-side with your pronunciation of ‘gyros’ (we have a large Greek community here in SE Michigan, from downtown Detroit all the way up to Port Huron/Sarnia area) I believe they pronounce gyros (sounds like) ‘here-ohs.’ We also have a large Middle Eastern community, too. If you’re ever in the area, I will treat you to a Lebanese lamb or chicken shawarma sandwich (or gyros, whichever you prefer) I hope to get over to Windsor (or better yet, Halifax) one of these days and try a donair (and you folks up North can make fun of my pronunciations) Take care! 🤘😎
On the West side of the state. Love the food over there. There is a new pita truck in Grand Haven. Pretty good. Spicy chicken Schwarma was spicy. Miss the real deal.
It actually sounds like "yee-rows". Roll the R. I'm from an area where most of the restaurants are Greek owned and every town has at least 3 Gyros joints. There have been many comments about the pronunciation of Gyros in the comments for this video, lol. Hilarious! Saying it wrong is my biggest pet peeve of all time. Makes my skin crawl when people use the G or J sound. I've actually been in arguments about it, no joke. Why 95 percent of people say it wrong is beyond me. It's not rocket surgery....
@@user-sw4qd2up2s Yeah, I actually pronounce it more similar to the way you have described it here (rolling the R, and to some extent, the Y as well) My Greek friends say my pronunciation is “passable” but I still can’t say it the way they do (almost sounds like “heroes” with a thick accent to my ears) but of course, they’d probably disagree. Looking forward to Greekfest in the D this week. Opa!
Great views from the top of that tram ride. How many days were you away? Btw, those gyros are mainly Greek food. Also that pink Floyd sound song is pronounced astronomy dom-in-e Sorry to be that guy lol.
Nothing face is one of my favorites of all time. So good from start to finish. Way ahead of it's time. I would not call it Metal exactly, but it definitely appeals to Metalheads. I dunno how to classify it, which makes it great. A friend of mine just saw them in Chicago at the beginning of the summer. Said it killed. Fun fact: Dave Grohl loves them and put out an album years ago with Metal and Hardcore singers, including the guy from Voivid, and the album cover is done by the same guy that did Nothgface. Also Jason Newsted used to play with them. *Also I noticed the Bugertime game, one of my favorite arcade games of all time.
Always fun doing hunting videos in the wild - that last record store looked epic. Donairs look a lot like what we would call a kebab, or a yeeros out here in Australia.
YEP. Pronounced "yee-rows". No G or J sound. Roll the R. It's a Greek sandwich on Pita Bread with Taziki Sauce (cucumber and sour cream), raw onion and Feta Cheese (made from Goat's milk). Sometimes purple Greek Olives on the side. The meat is seasoned lamb and beef cooked on a spit. Never though I'd be discussing food on Frank's page, lol. I just had one last weekend. So good.
We are heading to Denver next month to see Brandi Carlile at Red Rocks. I hit all the record stores when I was there last and told myself I wouldnt be record shopping this time. Let's see how I do. 😂
The fact that you still have Toys 'R Us in Canada gives this American hope...
I don't even tell myself I'm not going record shopping anymore.

Bad brains from Washington DC my hometown 🎸🎸🎸. Great score on finding that Prince album, hopefully one day I'm going to find that in the wild as well.
You got upstaged by your daughter! So cute! Your family may not understand your vinyl fascination, but they love you for it!

Excellent choice on Voivod one of my favourite bands...

Hi Frank thank you for the road trip and the record shopping. Have a great week.
Thanks for tuning in, Tino! Have a great week as well.
Not many TH-camrs in the VC get out of the house, but glad to see you finally made it outside. Been awhile.
A lot of great finds there, Frank. I like road trips. Road trips are fun. 😉
Some great pickups. We are thinking about a train ride across Canada. Looked amazing where you were. Take care

Good point you made about KKs Priest. I just got the white vinyl edition still sealed for £5.50

Hi Frank We call them Doner (Donair) Kebabs in the UK.... Funny That HMV are still going strong But Toys R Us went bust some years ag in the UK......
Damn, at min 5:04 you scrolled over a great independent hip hop record from the late 90s, called FDP (black generic + white-ish sticker)... i would have picked that one up, but as in every genre, you cant know em all... same goes for me ☺️🎶✌️ (that wax isnt a high priced one, but kinda seldom seen and got 2 great tracks on it)
That Recordland is like Bananas Records in St. Petersburg, FL. Check it out. 4 million vinyl. It's wild. Largest most in U S.
Hahaha I never can tell myself not to go to a record store traveling. I want to visit as many different stores if I can
I go to RCP a lot since I live in Edmonton, the guys there are usually pretty helpful
My collection has been "pretty much" "filled in" for the past year or so.... But whenever my wife comes home and sees new records or CD's, she will ask me- "were those on your list?" , and I say "sure!" 😄
Then she says 🤔 "I think you look for CD's and records and then add them to your list, so you can cross them out!!" 😲
Your honor, I can neither confirm nor deny that statement!! 😁😁😁
Great vid, Frank, looks like an awesome trip. 👍
Thanks Len!!!
[13:35] The Canadian rockabilly band The Creepshow? what albums are you looking for?
Haha... yup... I was aware I did not say 'gyro' the correct way, I just go with it (as do most people around here).
Opa!
You would lose your mind in California. Nice stuff with the family.
My closest record store is 600 km away but that doesn't stop me from buying records on a weekly basis 😂
The Sword is awesome, that's got me curious if they have a best of out.
The Sword are great (A+) ... I wasn't familiar with Sword.
Great views from the top of that tram ride. How many days were you away? Btw, those gyros are mainly Greek food. Also that pink Floyd sound song is pronounced astronomy dom-in-e Sorry to be that guy lol.
I think I will go record shopping… I think you will (wink) lmao! Frank pronounces gyro with a hard “g”, I pronounce it with a silent “g”, like yro.
I would have taken the Suzanne Fellini album for my Casablanca Records side collection ........ beautiful countryside.
Casablanca collection... nice!
Man i missed you out hunting in my neighborhood...i found of loved to say Hi.
Always good to chat, for sure. What city? Edmonton or Calgary?
@@Channel33RPM West Edmonton
If I had room in the car, I definitely would have bought Burgertime.
So good.
I lived in Australia, and donairs are popular there.
Recently went to mall of america, they had no record stores. But the one in canada does, go figure lol
As someone from Edmonton this was a fun video.
Sword released two albums in the 80's (Metalized and Sweet Dreams). Worth checking out, good heavy metal!!
Yup you got it bad lol The vinyl bug lol
I would have met you there Frank had I known you were in town
Donner kebabs!? Mainly eaten in the UK at 3am after a piss up, lol
Haha... nice!
Holy crap. I would book a trip to Canada just to camp out in Recordland for a day
Donair is called döner here in the Netherlands. It origins are Turkish.
This was a fun video. 👍☺️
Glad you enjoyed it!
We are heading to Denver next month to see Brandi Carlile at Red Rocks. I hit all the record stores when I was there last and told myself I wouldnt be record shopping this time. Let's see how I do. 😂
