Food dehydrators rock! Made the best beef jerky I've ever had in my own kitchen, not to mention the sweetest dried oregano, etc. Sure makes good camp eating easier.

Thanks for tuning in, I've been tweaking my mess kit and will release a video on the details. I'm really digging it.

I'm interested in a stove set-up for hiking this year. I like the idea of something lightweight like a Trangia. Bodums/French press coffee is great - no fussing around with filters or worse: instant coffee. Looking forward to part 4!

I'm very glad you're back! I enjoyed the video as always. Thanks in particular for going over the details of your cook kits. That's a very clever and compact setup. I am curious how long it took for that stove to boil a liter of water.
One technique for your consideration: Freezer-Bag Cooking. I think this started in the backpacking community, but it works great on canoe trips too. Store your dehydrated meals or ingredients in heavy-duty quart-sized ziplocs (or whatever), rehydrate them directly in the bag, and where appropriate, eat them from the bag as well. If you avoid leftovers, you have no cleanup, minimal pack-out weight, and negligible odor. (Roll up and seal the bags, messiest on the inside, and put them in an outer "garbage" ziploc or opsak. No washing or food waste left at camp.) With your wraps, this would have avoided cleanup for the cup and pan, for instance. I've been using that technique on canoe trips for a while now, and it's easy and versatile. (For even moderate length trips, you can dehydrate tasty, whole meals, and they'll keep. It requires prep but is fast and easy in camp and very satisfying.)

Delicious looking meal. Totally understand why you didn't go with the tent fly. Need that breeze to freshen things up. Also, check out Andy Skurka's Rice and Beans with Fritos and Cheese - One of the best trail meals I've ever had and one I always bring now.Nate

    Troy. Great video.
I keep a silicone wristband on the bottom section of my trangia. When the top is hard to get off, it makes a great gripping tool. I take it off when using the stove. It can be used as a pot gripper, but it's not the best at that but it can assist with a pot or pan.

alf3553 ProTip: if you have trouble loosening a lid like that stove or a jar or whatever, just switch hands. The way your thumb opposes the grip on your right hand cams off when turning anti-clockwise and the more pressure you apply, the more it works against your actual grip. Using the other hand for loosening does the opposite and makes your grip cam on and lock even tighter with more pressure. It's kinda like how old drum brakes work, the direction of rotation applies more torque because of the way the pads pivot.

Awesome to see you're back man! I just started watching camping videos some months ago and I really loved your videos, but I was terribly disapointed when I saw that you had stopped some time ago. Keep it up!

Seems like the trick to using a trangia well, is the wind shield I guess.

Hey Nekon, I've been meaning to tell you this for years. Ever since you left this comment saying you "love only tube" Toby's nickname has become "The Tube". To this day I still call him that over 50% of the time. So thanks for your comment and leaving your mark on Toby "The Tube" and I. Much love and I wish you all the best.
