Thank you so much. I had hinges problem with an Asus laptop bought $1400. CAD 1year and 2 months ago, so warranty over. To fix it it would have cost me over $300. I searched a lot for help until I found your video. I followed your instructions and fixed my problem. It's the second time that I take advantage of your competence and devotion. Thank you.

Hi! I just wanna thank you for your help. There are many ways you are helping me. First of all, updating my knowledge and showing me that repairing new consumer electronics is profitable. Before I was looking for another business because I can't see a way in the repairshop's area.
Second, I think that you give me anther point of view about schematics. Before I was atached to them. Now I am learnig how stuff works, that it is like a "swiss knife" tool. How it is said: not knowing is like not seeing (don't know how the translations from spanish).
There are others ways you contribute and help transferring your experience and knowledge in different topics (technology, business, tricks, etc).
Keep going with the videos and tricks (hot glue, petrol, amps (a lot haha)).

I totally agree, this model is the worst design for hinges. My parents laptop was to brought to service 3 times for hinge replacement during warranty. Unfortunately the warranty is now over and the hinges are broken again ... :(

I just drill right through the hinge and the plastic. Then I use two small brass nut and bolts. File them smooth.

  • @nufcbob

Epoxy the hinge mounts in then apply hot glue....... it’s a lot stronger

    • @Frank-Thoresen

Thought the same. A lot of force on a small area where closing and opening the lid/screen. My best solution is sadly to drill through and fix screws through just to be sure it lasts (not always pretty though).

That issue happened to my lenovo ideapad 310-15isk too. Broken the plastic under the right hinge. The repair with bicomponent glue has been during for a year, after I decided to replace the entire case. It would be nice if someone thinks to do these pieces with alloy instead of plastic.

I had the same model for 3 years.. Now I have the same problem with hinges.. But there is more flaws in the design.. the bezel has sticks that are supposed to keep the screen from coming in contact with the keyboard once it's closed. They can very easily come off.. The screen than gets imprints from contact with the keyboard and the bezel gets scuffed.. when I bought it, it came with Windows 8.1. they put the wrong drivers DVD with it, and i couldn't get its graphics card to run until I updated to Windows 10. When I switched to Linux, the graphics card did not a driver. The plastic inside got broken easily each time opened for some repair.. so Sir, you just made me sight, one more time...

My toshiba was having broken hinge from both side too and.. Fixed with hot glue :). The only issue is that my hinge is hard, that's why it break i put every month a drop of WD40 into the hinge and that fix the "high force"
I did it with a hot glue gun Sorin, so far everything is fine :| Maybe the thing is to wait, wait for the gun to be very hot

Crappy cases! I've had to fix both hinges on my son's laptop. Showers of broken plastic when you open the case. My solution was to fill the cavity under the hinge with quick epoxy and use a 2.5mm allen cap head bolt through the existing screw hole to the outside of the case with an oversize washer and a nut outside. Had to remove the brass insert and a little plastic to accommodate the bolt head above the hinge so that the cover/palm rest seats OK. Incidentally the fan is not attached to the back of the keyboard, just to an ally plate.

Ok, lots and lots of videos of how to glue a hinge or what else, not one single video if hinge is broken in 2 pieces, the long part of the hinge wich is screwed to the side of the screen
So how to do that ?
    MIG or TIG welding ?
Everyone has that staff at home of course....

    Hi
I have the same laptop. The right hinge is somehow loose and cause the back body to open a little bit when i push it backwards.
Recently, wifi signal is lost when the lid is pushed back.
Can the lid and hinge affect the network adaptor in any means?

Hi Sorin, I fixed one of this laptop with a faulty mosfet, now I would like to reassemble it but I’m facing problems with both hinges.
I’ve not caught exactly the sandwich tactic. Shall I just close quickly the upper chassis, after glueing the hinge? I’m afraid for the cables in the left part if they got glued :(

  • @technomad900
    @technomad900 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This happens because the hinge lubrication dries and the hinges become too tight . You should loosen them with some plyers

    • @chrisgraham2904
      @chrisgraham2904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Many laptops, particularly DELL's have a hinge with a spring tensioner. The hex head screw tends to tighten on its' own during repeated opening and closing of the laptop. Eventually, the tension is too great and the weakest point fails, which is the plastic attachments in the cover or the base. When re-securing the hinges, the screw needs to be adjusted to relieve the tension and then lock the screw in place with Loc-Tite.

Done this many times i have to do this week, tried many times with hot glue, especially with older heavy screens it simply does not work long enough to make it worth doing, i just ordered a new base,
mostly due to design problems, I know i will have to do it again next year. Poor quality and bad design,
this time i will cover the laptop les in JB weld before it snaps off..If you look at the bases they sell 100s of them lol its obvious.
I think another problem is not just the hot glue but if its an older heavy screen or if its a led screen you
will have a much better chance of the hot glue working with LED as its loads lighter.Im surprised at
    lenovo having this problem..
This is one of them im doing this week t Acer Aspire V3-571G V3-551G V3-571g Q5WV1 laptops all have
the same problem i will be putting JB weld on it before i put it on before it snaps LOL..
Another tip don't get hot glue all over or it will not shut and watch for the power cable never tried with
500 deg though i think that will make a difference,This base looks exactly like the ones they used for the
    base mentioned above.

you are guessing while removing and reapplying all the screws, no wonder. The computer is not booting because you probably failed to re-attach a flex cable.... and youre stubborn to take it apart, i dont see why you wont disassemble it once again. Thats a fail to me. You have to reopen it, you like it or not. Video length is not an excuse.

why they have to make laptops and phones thinner and thinner i'll never know ? who wants this ? just makes the thing break easier and have less battery life (thinner smaller batteries ) unless the manufacturers for some reason want their products to break down after 3-4 years...............so we have to go out and buy new ones ?.............i wonder ?? :)
