Sorin you are the right kind of a guy I need, in case I have a massive heart attack. I'm pretty sure you can fix even a dying man with hot glue. Insane repair... BTW I've repaired my HP Pavillion G6 with hot glue - no problems after 1 year.
I cant believe that some folks treat stuff so roughly. just look at the state of it! It looks like its been to the moon and back, and then some, well done for fixing!
Patient: Dentist Sorin? My tooth filling fell out, can you fix it? Dentist Sorin: Yes no problem, 40 pound Patient: How about 20? Dentist Sorin: No problem Patient: Great! Dentist Sorin: Diana! We have a job.. Patient: Why is it so hot in my mouth? Dentist Sorin: Don't worry it will be ok, you have 3 month warranty Patient: uuh, what? Dentist Sorin: Ok, all done, I also removed one bad cap.. Patient: how much to replace that? Dentist Sorin: You don't need to, you still have 2
Well done. Keep it out of the waste dump. Live to see another day. I would love to know the story of that laptop - how did it get to be in its duct tape condition?
Hello Sorin, I also own a computer shop and I would really want to suggest you to try epoxy resin for those type of repairs because it is a lot stronger, less messy and easier to apply. I always use it and it holds "a dracu de bine". Keep going because I really enjoy your videos and to be honest I would come to work with you and learn from you in a heartbeat.
Incredible fix, Sorin! The Hot Glue Hero saves the day again! : ) You are a master with those hinge jobs. Just curious, do the customers ever explain what happened or how the laptop ended up in that condition? Guessing they tried to fold the screen all the way around like a tablet. Anyways, great work!
I have found if you heat the metal part a small amount before pressing onto the hot glue, it bonds much better then pressing cold metal into the hot glue.
Tried it myself on a 17" HP Pavilion. I had the same thoughts on hot glue being too soft: Instead I used a 2K mixed epoxy. How wrong I was ! The epoxy can not be altered once cured. Ended up with a mess and the lid could not close fully ... I broke the display ... 😳 You HAVE to put all your will, patience and strength into such a job ☹ Will never do it again.
Hi Sorin have you spoke about voltage maintenance system? the device should start when I press the button for 2 seconds. But it only works as I press and hold the button, when I release it turns off immediately
Fair play to Sorin using hot glue to fix laptops. I've always done the same knowing it's not good enough. He inspired me to fix this. See my other comments. Try car filler, it works better! It's stickier, fast and a lot harder when cured. Quite easy.
Soren. I just started experimenting with fixing this prob. Did the Sony have the usual metal lugs molded in the plastic or are the screws self tapping, straight into the plastic? Doesn't make any difference just different way to fix. Maybe. I've got some stuff! Let you know.
U-POL Easy body filler might be the answer to some. It dries really quickly and goes rock hard in minutes. It sticks like anything. Works on lugs and self tap screws. Better than Araldite but just as messy as needs mixing up etc. I just tried on a broken Asus lappy case, ripped the hinge lugs out of both sides to break it on purpose to make this experiment. Mix up U-POL filler (it smells like it might work :-) ), paste it into the broken bits/holes and stick the lugs back in where they should go. Put self tapper screws where they should go in the sticky stuff. Wait a bit for the filler to go off and take any self tappers out. You then have a new thread for those when it's completely dry. I only just did this as a test so it's not completely dry, but it is NOT going to come off easily already, it's also much harder than hot glue. I hope that help's someone else.
Left it a bit longer, put the screws back in, works 100%, you can also put the filler in the holes where the lugs used to be and use some suitable replacement self tap screws and it's still strong. The filler left on the paper I mixed it on is still a little bit 'crumbly' so will check again tomorrow. I think this is a good solution for sticking broken plastic bits, charger ports etc down in laptops. It's a lot more solid than hot glue and marginally as much work. Smell's like Evostik anyway so happy days! :)
A two part epoxy is the proper way to fix this with no comebacks. JB weld if you have 24 hours or JB quick if you only have 4 hours. I hope the owner doesn't attempt to open it after it sat in a hot car.
In all of Sorin's videos where he uses the hot glue, he NEVER once puts in the description or shows on the screen what exact glue it is to buy? How can i buy this glue if i don't know what it is or where he bought it? I've been watching his videos for well over a year and i still don't know where he buys his glue and exactly what kind it is.
@@electronicsrepairschool Thank you. Didn't you say in one of your older videos that you should buy the 7mm and NOT the 11mm because they were better quality?
didn,t you listen to his former videos and especially this one? Notebookrepairs like that got 3 month warranty and NEVER came back for re-repair! Any questions?
Hot glue NOT for hinges buddy. Won't come close to holding. Not even a strong 3500 PSI plastic epoxy will hold the hinges in place of screws. However, I have a much better way to fix those hinge mounts and it's as good if not better than screws, if your interested. It takes a little more time but you end up with a great hold, better hinge mounting and perfect appearance. It's like putting it back together but better and stronger and looks just like it did before it broke.
Some of your technics are amazing. Hot glue is so lame and I do not belive it's going to last long. I've been trying so many differend ways to fix hinges and stayed at resin epoxy from US. Your repair is temporary.
I always tell the client that way is hard if you want to get inside, but good epoxy is nicely cracking/breaking when you use heat. You can apply another one after that. I know that it's time absorbing, and can be painfull when you want to open cover second or rgird time, but looks better and holds a lot longer.
every technicians has its own technic on how to repair things in the fastest way as possible, if your technic is suitable for you, then its good as long as the costumer is happy,,, jobs done (have a nice day ✌️)
Hot glue is ok, i use it, but it just doesn't bond to the plastic well enough. I just read here that someone suggested using 3D filament. Might be worth a try, or Gorilla glue maybe? Still searching for something better than the hot stuff...

@@Mr.Smith_Mr.Wesson_andMe I disagree. We are doing same repairs with epoxy. It looks more professional and you can open the notebook again if you need to. And the price? You do not need a huge amount of it, just for fixing the nut with thread in place.
3D filament cools too fast by the looks, you'd have drill out the holes etc... Needs something wet that dries solid fast and sticks like sh** to a blanket.. still looking. Araldite is slow but I use that as well.
Hot glue is definitely better for this than epoxy. Every epoxy I tried would fail after a short while or it would be a job like this where opening the laptop after without breaking it would be impossible. I would love to see one being re-opened though after having been made into a hot-glue sandwich. :)))

He says hot glue is FLEXIBLE epoxy is not.
You can actually just fix the hinge on the back plastic plate and it will hold easily without the top one so you can open it. That's my way though.
Unbelivable repair! :). You can easily remove the hot glue with alcohol (example: cheap denaturated alcohol).
Thanks for the videos.
In Romania we called "Baton Siliconic". Nice job!

good option is flower with superglue much stronger than hotglue you can even screw in it and sandpaper it or form it with a dremel
You mean flour? Might try it. Soren was doing 'quick & cheap' so hot glue is ok.

soring i keep learning from you + you make me happy lol
Aye, Sorin what type of Hot Glue or brand of Hot Glue are you using?
I use epoxy to glue the broken plastic parts, then screw the hinges back in. But it takes a long time, i will try your method next time
