Did you know that fabric softener can make your clothes MORE flammable? 🔥🔥🔥

  • Here is another reason to stop using fabric softener, it can make clothing flammable!
The left swatches were left untreated while the right were treated with fabric softener. The results speak for themselves. Fabric softener can increase the burn speed by 5-6x!!! And sadly, people have passed away from this insane phenomenon.
There are so many alteratives on the market these days instead of fabric softener. Make the switch so you don’t catch on fire :)

Sad I had to scroll for this comment because, yes you are correct.
This video is literally burning with the grain in one fabric and against in the other making the "control test" null.
This has nothing to do with fabric softener and everything to do with fabric type and the grain at which it's being set on fire.
Microfiber is 100% polyester, with or without FS it will light and melt quickly. It melted on the left, and burned on the right.because the upwards pattern allowed for more airflow for the fire, vs the sideways grain snuffing it out via lack of oxygen/airflow.
Real electricians and welders prefer to wear cotton and jean as they are the most flame retardant of the fabrics. Our highschool welding teacher would not let us wear polyester as it literally melts to the skin in a flash when set ablaze.

I was using the same washing machine and detergent that I always had. I was about to go to the doctor when I learned about vinegar in the wash. How relieved I was to find that it was my clothing and not me that was smelling. 😳🙎‍♀️ i have used vinegar in EVERY wash since then. But it does not prevent static cling and my "hypoallergenic" dryer sheets leave spots all over my clothes. Any suggestions to prevent static in the dryer without adding chemicals or sheets? I'm highly sensitive to chemicals and fragrances so I can't add any commercial softeners to the rinse.

have u tested how to get rid of fabric softener from clothes ?

i know u can use vinegar (soak for some time) and special detergent for firefighter clothes (for nomex etc.)
but never tested if this works or not
i know naphtha can disolve silicones etc in fabric softeners but i dont know it it can damage the clothes after soaking them in it (of course washing them after that )

Where second pair too washed in vinegar etc (not to use fabric softener) and is way more resistant
Breath more , you sweat less , it wont stick to the body in summer like the one washed in fabric softener
I stop washing any clothes with it
Just pour some vinegar and rinse
You wont get any smell of vinegar after that so no worry
But clothes after vinegar feel much more "soft" even without it just washing detergent breath more , no sweat like crazy , no sticking to skin etc and way less sweat "smell" because of that

Scent beads have a bunch of artificial chemicals. There is a difference between smelling clean and smelling like a bunch of artificial fragrances.

After years of using a twin tub washing machine, fabric softener is a dream. Secondly - this test isnt controlled.
Ima keep using the softener, folks. Unconvinced.

Idk how being slightly more flammable makes having softer clothes not worth it.
I mean depending on your job, sure. But for most ppl it being slightly more flammable will have zero effect on their life.
Also, we take way more risks in our lives than this. This is such a small step in risk reduction. It's basically equivalent to not changing any of your behavior at all.

There’s no risk of having a clothes that would burn faster when treated with a fabcon. If your house get caught on fire everything will turn into ashes and shit regardless weather you have a clothes treated of fabcon or not

Fabric softener may make the clothes softer and less static, but the chemicals within it are flammable and conductive! There's a difference between static and electricity, please don't hurt yourself on accident.

Dont use fabric softener, its bad for your washer anyways. Use distilled white vinegar. I promise you wont smell it when its done, it softens your cloths and the acidity helps to remove stains. And most importantly it dosnt damage your washer. If you really want scented cloths use dryer sheets.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa warrior here and I can attest that fabric softeners are designed to keep us in chaos. If I wash or use any fabric with a softeners, I am doomed for weeks before I can find a clear skin balance again.😂
If you love your family, you'll avoid fabric softeners.
