Does the ram need to be 1RX8 or can I use the normal DDR4 3200MHZ?

I do not know if you're still answering questions but since I'm new to this and this laptop's my model, I'm planning to upgrade its RAM, but I'm kinda confused about the RAM situation coz someone stated about a 4gb ram soldered something, but I have a 8gb model of this so should I go for an addt. 8 gb ram or 12 gb since the max cap is just 16gb? Regarding your question, there are few variation of this models out there some with 4GB soldered on board and free slot available and some with 4GB soldered and 4Gb on a ram dimm, and some with 8GB soldered and free one slot.
i need you to check max ram capacity 1st by checking this video: th-cam.com/video/tKEJTkVth4Q/w-d-xo.html
then you need to open and see what configuration you have, because windows wont tell you what is soldered and what is not!, so open and check, and see if your ram slot is free or it has a ram in it , if it has a ram check what ram capacity is there.

Regarding your question, this model can handle a 16gb stick + 4gb on board, for a total of 20gb, but if you want you can go 8gb +4gb

@@uFixTek thanks for reply, i have IdeaPad 3 14itl6 model , i checked Max Ram support on device it says 16 gb , since 4 gb already soldered on board and i can upgrade only 8 gb more , as per your saying if i install 16 gb module total installed ram will be 20 gb , will that laptop support it and detect my 16 gb ram?
oh then your CPU is a different model or generation if the max ram support is 16gb then you can't place a 16gb stick only 8GB and it will add with your 4gb on board,

Regarding your question, yes you can place a 3200 but the bios will step it down to the max speed that it can run at high GB ram lower the speed will be 2666 it is the one you should look into, no point on going for the 3200 , also remember that this is intel CPU and intel dont care much about the ram speed unlike AMD that it is very important.

Thanks for the video. talking to Lenovo today and they said I have to changed the motherboard to add extra ram which I thought was unusual. Also could you tell me if I can add a NVMe solid state drive for extra storage?? as they said my model doesn't support that. I have the 256gb model 14itl6. Thanks

Regarding your question, i'm telling you this Lenovo support center or ACER or ASUS they are all on HARD CORE crack!
you can upgrade the ram on this models without any issue you can even add a 32GB sdram DDR4 stick!
and You can have a 2TB NVME and additional HDD 2.4' 2TB or 2TB SSD 2.5'.
At the same time.
i recommend you to have a very good NVME like samsung pro: amzn.to/3qcsLQ8
and have a 2TB HDD for extra storage: amzn.to/3KnPvni

Definitely on crack haha.. I think I will just go with the SSD 2.5 1TB and add an extra 8GB of ram. I think that will be enough. I had no idea you could put a 32gb ram in it that's impressive. Anyway it's a sweet laptop I'm very happy with it. Thanks again for your response and help. I'll make sure I subscribe now

I added 16gb but when I check sysinfo it still shows 4gb. Why?

My computer motherboard model is LNVNB161216 (U3E1). When i check max capacity of ram on cmd screeen. it shows me 16777216. can I upgrade it into 4gb sodimm + 16gb = 20gb of ram ? is it posibble?
🫠Regarding your question, no, you can't. You can only add an additional 8GB to the 4GB onboard, giving you a total of 12GB.
