Bless you. That cover on the RAM looked so solid I was worried it was some kind of one piece memory/heatsink that was soldered down and I was terrified to try removing it by force. After a surprising amount of searching online I finally found your video, and now I know it's ok to do so to pop my new 16 GB DIMM in 🙂
THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO. My older Lenovo died, and I was simply curious to see what was inside since I had never opened up a laptop before. The hardest part was removing the screws since I don't have a power screwdriver. I had no problems following the other steps.
Same my old Lenovo died. And I studied the fundamentals of CompTIA. So I knew some stuff. But it was quite a while ago. And I was curious to see the inside. It seems all the screws were taken out. And b4 you think I’m lucky I needed some of them for my new one which also had some screws missing. Meaning they were taken for whatever reason. Gonna play with the motherboard and screw around b4 I dump it in the trash God willing
This is excellent, very thorough and well explained. It is very frustrating that these keyboards are not an easy/cheap replacement part these days. One thing you didn't mention was the space for a 2.5"" HDD in the bottom left - this either goes under the battery or requires the smaller 38Wh battery, then you can buy a hdd cable which connects to the 10 pin connector JHDD1 on the motherboard near the keyboard backlight connector JKBL1
I have the version with the smaller battery, and has the space for the 2.5" HDD, you mention the keyboard backlight connector - my 15itl6 doesn't have a keyboard backlight, are you saying I can purchase a backlight keyboard replacement and install it to have a backlight? this would really improve it for me if so..
@@PaulGalvinPhoto if you can find a replacement then yes, when the keyboard has a backlight there is a second cable to plug in for the backlight. Problem is the replacement part is usually the entire top plate not just the keyboard and is much more expensive. That's what I was moaning about, you can't easily/cheaply replace the keyboards these days (displays are also getting tricky to replace with the obsession with ultra-thin bezels they have removed most of the screws and glued everything in place
Great video. We have a few of these and one of the touchpads died. Very useful to know the keyboard and palm rest are all one component. I had a hard time finding a good replacement touchpad, so instead found a new keyboard/palmrest which included the touchpad, as there is a good chance they'll break a keyboard at some point. Auto shops are rough on hardware.
To everyone asking if you can install an 2,5 hdd the answer is yes but you also need to change the battery to the smaller version the 38 watts and the sata connector and only then you can install it. You can also add a samsung sdd with sata connector but you will need to remove the sdd case and put it bare bone with tape to avoid any short circuit
it's a carry over design from the previous year's model where the battery was a 2 cell version and there was space for a 2.5 inch drive. As far as I know the 15ITL models come with a SATA ribbon cable that allow for a 2.5 inch drive to be seated underneath the battery. Apparently Lenovo didn't spend a whole lot on the redesign. That's sadly what you get in entry level laptops.
Thank you for the great video. I have this exact unit of laptop 1 month ago. The thing is there's something moving inside in one place when I shake it a little. Is it normal?
Excuse me, as we can take advantage of those 16 ram, because there are 4 ram sold, we would have to buy the 8 ram to have 12 or buy a 16 ram to have 20 and so the pc detects the capacity and stays with the maximum 16 it supports? If so, there would be no problem with us having more capacity and the PC trying to force itself?
Mine is the same model but came with a 1 TB spindle hard drive, so I guess it's in the same location inside? I wish this model came with an extra memory slot. As it is with just one slot, the memory installed is wasted, and a larger module has to be purchased. That makes it pricey to double the memory size. This is the first laptop I've had that has an internal battery. Most just have batteries that just snap in and out from the outside.
Hi, thanks for the nice video! How can we install the bigger drive? Apparently we have to remove the accessory which fits on the smaller 2242 drive but how do we secure the 2280 drive? Thanks!
