    Too much bass on your voice, it makes your voice a bit hard to listen and understand. Other than that, good video. While the Q3 is better, I think most people would be fine with the Q2, I was going to save for the Q3 but I'd need to upgrade my PC for it to be worth it lol.

    I have a meta quest 2, I feel like everything I see is behind a veil of blurriness/grain/aliasing. Is this still true on meta quest 3?

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I would argue that all headsets experience this to some degree, especially in high contrast scenes where you can see the lenses themselves with the god rays and particles on them, but the Quest 3 feels much less and is a big improvement over the 2 in that regard. The upgrade to pancake lenses and the upgraded resolution of the displays will eliminate a some of the aliasing (you can still see individual pixels because the lenses are so clear and the PPD isn't high enough). There's not much blurring that I can perceive in normal use (unless I'm in a high contrast scene with black background and white text - at which point the rays and diffusion cause a blurriness).

    Amazing and honest review. Owning this device for 2 weeks right now, i'm already feeling i'm running out of (interesting) things to do. After finishing the Half Life Alyx masterpiece, every game I install and try feels boring and dull. The social aspect (metaverse) that Meta tries to shove into your face every second is just annoying. Basically, the only thing left to do is to watch 3d movies and vr porn lol. The technology is top notch, apart from the passthrough lenses, but the content is waaay too dull and niche.

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Appreciate that! I've definitely heard that a lot... users feeling let down after finishing Half Life: Alyx because no other titles come close. I've even seen some people telling others to save Alyx until absolutely last when they're completely bored of the headset to avoid it lol It's also unfortunate that companies like Ubisoft (using Ubisoft as an example here because of their statements about Assassin's Creed: Nexus) have determined VR isn't worth investing in right now because sales didn't meet expectations and they can't justify making more games until the market grows.. and that was presumably *after* getting funding from Meta to build the game on their platform. If you don't have that game yet, it still pales in comparison to Alyx, but it is the closest standalone game I've found. We're going to need indie devs to save the day.. and they're going to need kickstarter campaigns for funding. I feel like we should be getting close to that as VR is becoming more popular and the next generations of developers are taking XR/AR classes. I imagine the VR gaming audience must be quite small.. as I know myself and a lot of people I know are into VR for the daily computing aspect or pure simming (car/plane/etc. via a PC). I don't find watching movies on it enjoyable even due to all the glare in dark screens mixed with the low resolution - a regular TV or PC monitor is a much better experience in 95% of use cases.

    I agree with everything you have said and this is 5 months too late but as an ex vr chat degenerate there is plenty and plenty of instances with 70+ adult aged people in them, you are likely barred from them as most of the good instance either require being in social groups on vr chat as they are not public instances but friend+ or by the fact that the more popular worlds are drinking worlds, majority of people i meet are early 20s up to mid 30's. kids are extremely rare in said groups groups.

      Appreciate you taking the time to watch! And yes, I'm working on a "6-months later" review now to cover all the Quest 3 updates and my time using it. I was able to find VRchat communities online and joined a couple discords which granted me access to some instances. I agree the issue is that you need to know this and hunt them down (rather than them being available at the surface level like all the others). I think my end problem is that I don't necessarily want to make a social commitment to these groups, which they kind of push/encourage. It's a lot of time and commitment that I simply don't have; I need to be more transient. I get that it needs to exist to have a sense of community, though, and is likely why I am not social IRL.

      I think the Quest 2 is a great bang-for-buck right now.. but you also need to consider future-proofing (if that matters for you). Developers are already choosing to drop support for the Quest 2 + Quest Pro - so games may become exclusive for the Quest 3. There's still a massive library of Quest 2 compatible games that probably won't go away any time soon, but I would imagine in ~2 years the lack of new games might start affecting you. I would argue the Quest 1 isn't worth bothering unless you want to say you own the first one. Maybe it's worth it if you have a PC to power games.

    It seems like it wasn't initially intended to be a standout feature but rather just a helpful little feature like it was in the quest 2. In the quest 2 it was initially used as a way of staying aware of your surroundings. With the quest 3 however they pushed this helpful little feature beyond what it was capable of just to add another selling point.

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm not sure I agree with that - I feel like the Mixed Reality experience was a massive part of all their external comms and one of the largest draws for consumers. It was a big focus of their product launch. My guess is that development just wasn't moving quickly enough after they had the final hardware locked it. What we got on launch day was the working passthrough and a handful of tech demos, suggesting it was effectively a beta test to get this in front of developers so they, too, could start building on it. A good example of this is that we STILL don't have augments that were back in those launch keynotes and it's been 7 months. I'm not complaining about that, by any means, I understand these things take time.. and it's not like its "oh why didn't they just add this UI element", Meta is literally pioneering a new realm of XR experiences for the entire world. I'm super excited for the future updates and am glad I got to experience the "before" so that I can make solid comparisons in the future. Developers have built some pretty fun experiences already and I've seen some independent Reddit programmers also building crazy teleports and stuff in their free time with MR.. so feels like we're right on the cusp of some awesome experiences incoming.

      😂😄. I have to be mindful of how I things come across here because this channel hopes to be a brand.. but, it is a legitimate use case of the device. For reference, the entertainment industry for adults has literally pioneered improvements in VR technology and video recording.. and the industry has grown 120% PER YEAR SINCE 2016 to being worth $1.5 billion. The quality of videos and level of immersiveness is insane, and some of the best seen outside of the Apple Vision Pro's demo videos like the soccer highlights. The video quality goes all the way up to 8k resolution - way higher than the Quest 3's displays - which makes them look super crisp when downsampled.

Thanks for taking the time to watch. =) I'm sure you're going to love it - also, for when you get it set up, check out Assetto Corsa with the VR mods.. it takes a while to get everything set up, but it's awesome too. RE: charging, it depends on your computer. If your computer has a high-wattage USB-C output that also supports data transfer, then you just need a basic USB-C link cable. However, if you don't have that (or if you don't know if you have that), then you will want to get a powered link cable (I can't put links here, search "quest 3 link cable with power" on Amazon - it's a USB-C cable with 2 ends, 1 goes into your PC and 1 goes into a charger brick.. and it juices your headset with extra power from the charging brick while also giving the data from the PC). It might not keep you you at 100% all the time, but you should be getting like 12-18 hours of play time which is basically the same thing because no one plays that long.

The nice thing about the halo headstraps a battery on them is 1) the headstrap is extremely comfortable, 2) the battery pack on the back of the headset balances the weight of the HMD on your face, and 3) you don't have to cable manage yourself with wires through your shirt to your pocket or backpack (or whatever). Plus, the new BoboVR S3 Pro is 10,000 mAH (hot swappable battery pack) and is only like $70 if you had their old model.

Maybe after the alien and Batman game that's supposedly only going to be on the quest 3, will I upgrade from my quest 2. Maybe they will go on sale for Black Friday. $500 to $700 is too much not to mention all the accessories you need to go with it.

      Thank you! Yea, if you already have a Quest 2 and don't see the need for the upgrade then sit tight. You probably have another 1- 2 years before more Quest 3-specific games come out. A Quest 3 Lite is still rumored to be on the way and have the major upgrades without some of the fluff, so that may be the best choice once it comes out since it will be cheaper.

    It is bad, don't get me wrong. But an optimistic view on this could be... quest 2 pass-through. It was a black and white migraine and lighting was as scary as freddy sleeping with your mom. The fact that you can actually read texts in any way with pass-through on the quest of the next generation (not several like phones which take multiple generations for changes to be added nicely) is astounding. Even further than that is the concept of Vr itself. It is still in its infancy, tell someone 40 years ago and they would find it absolutely amazing that vr even exists, tell someone 40 years before that and they would be asking what vr is let alone a computer. False advertising is extremely awful and they do it way too much for devices and video games (ex. Halo and kerbal space program 2), but the technology itself is still worth diving into even just a little bit. If Noone does, then it won't improve and eventually the concept of VR will become a failed invention. I hope if it continues to push the envelope, we'll see tech like what is shown in Sword Art Online on day. Thank you:)

    Agreed. In the workspace option it would be far better if the passthrough was ditched in that area in favour of an overlaid a keyboard and mouse on the actual board. Sadly they only have a few boards as part of the recognition software. You could map in the various %age versions of the various boards though. It's certainly not usable as it is. They've effectively wasted an option to create a really good office screen environment. They should look to apply the overlay for the keeb to make is usable whilst they perfect the tech.

      Yea, I'm not sure how well the tracked keyboard functionality works as I haven't tested it directly yet. I did just get a Apple Magic Keyboard to use with the Apple Vision Pro and that is on the Quest 3 tracked keyboard support list.. so I'll definitely try it for my 6-month review coming up. I'm also a bigger fan of how ImmersedVR does the passthrough windows. If you haven't tried that then it's worth a download - it's the same concept, but you can set the size and location of your keyboard area + can create other windows (for instance, I like to a window where I sit my drinks so I can see myself reaching out for them). The passthrough quality isn't improved any, though. Even if they had little markers or stickers we could place on our keyboards to help it track - that seems like it could work based on general layouts (even if it wasn't 100% aligned it seems like it could be close enough to trick your brain).

    Hi Quest 3 user here. No you shouldn't Quest 3 quality isnt commensurate to the price especially when compared to the quest2. If your using PCVR their graphical output relies on the computer meaning the graphical differences there are minor. As for video quality and performance of the sytem. Your paying a little over twice the price for something that runs somewhat better but lasts noticably shorter in terms of battery life.

    • @K162KingPin
      @K162KingPin 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@aline.tech.reviews I doubt it's the processing power. Based on multiple forum post I've since read on the subject they expect to be able to resolve this in time with software updates. Which suggest that the hardware is fine, they just have not yet perfected the software side of it. At the end of the day the q3 has easily 2 - 3 times better hardware than the q2. It's already rendering the full screen, and can do so in high def quality. Its just a matter of creating software which can intelligently switch each pixel between rendering the real world camera vs the virtual environment. So there is hope for the q3, but I wouldn't expect anything mind blowing until q4. Whenever that may be.

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Agreed - I don't think we'll see anything mindblowing until Quest 4+ (or AVP 2). I believe they can only do so much via software/algorithm updates, and what those updates would hope to accomplish is "optimizing" the algorithm so they can let more data through at a quicker pace because there isn't enough processing power available. They're capturing 2 camera feeds, stitching them together / getting rid of overlap, mapping them to the displays, and then also rendering your game/hands/UI/etc. on top of all that. I'm assuming more pixels/higher resolution and less compression = more latency and more processing power required (both of which are bad). This seems to become more evident when you realize how compressed the 4MP image is when you see it. To start, the cameras on the Quest 3 are 16MP cameras, but they're binned down to 4MP (which could be due to lack of processing power or light).. but then the image is seemingly compressed further on top of that. 4MP is almost the resolution of a single panel, or 8MP across both, but when you realize a lot of that image has to be cut out due to FOV overlap, the true resolution is smaller. I feel like if they were able to process more data in real time, they could have upped that resolution or reduced compression. Another example is the Apple Vision Pro is only utilizing 6MP images from 12MP cameras (presumably not binning but just cropping?). I think for the Quest 3 you could argue that cost was a factor so they had to leave lower resolution cameras, but that doesn't seem to have been the case for the AVP given the absurd features added and extravagant cost and relative cheapness of say 32MP cameras.

      You could try a few things: 1) open the virtual menu and look at the text, make sure you can also read that - if not, make sure that the headset is snug on your head then use the IPD dial (the wheel on the bottom of the headset) to adjust the distance of the lenses until the text looks crisp to you. For me, I had to tilt the headset up a bit on my head and snug it down tight to get the best clarity. 2) make sure you are updated to the latest firmware, v64 fixed a lot of the "blowout" issues that cause screens like your phone to become extremely blown out, and 3) if you still can't read them, try turning down the brightness on your phone to see if that helps (it's what allowed me to read my phone before the updates). I hope something there helps you out! If not, I am unsure of what the cause would be.. but would suggest checking out Reddit or submitting a support request

    Amazing review, just one question - at 33:10 you state "connecting the headset to a PC will increase the quality", do you mean via Wi-Fi connection streaming from the PC is sufficient, or is this a limitation that can only be overcome via cable? I have an RTX 4080/5800x so if I can rely on my PC for the horsepower that would be great. Thanks, looking into getting one and this review is definitely helping with my decision Edit: Ok I actually continued watching the video to get my question mostly answered lol, again fantastic video

    • @aline.tech.reviews
      @aline.tech.reviews 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Appreciate that! I find the Wi-Fi connection to be more than just sufficient.. I prefer to use it in most cases (unless I want to load up a seated or sim racing game, or get the best graphics quality) because the wireless provides a new level of freedom and you don't have to worry about the cable getting in your way. The latency isn't all that noticeable and the decreased quality doesn't bug me much. I had to get a dedicated router to get this performance. The wired connection, however, is objectively the best experience (especially in your case with a 5900x + RTX 4080, because you can max out all the settings with a high bitrate, high resolution, 90hz, and so on that might cause more latency and compression issues with wireless). I also prefer using the cable for work apps like ImmersedVR as I don't get annoying mouse lag. Your PC will be used to render the graphics and export the video in both cases. Wired just allows it to do so at higher fidelity due to more bandwidth and less wireless nonsense. In the end, the option to be tethered OR wireless when you want is an awesome feature that the Quest 3 provides - which really ups its bang-for-buck IMO.

      @@DavidWasTakn - You're very welcome! The WiFi connection created here will be local like this: from your PC -> to your router -> to your headset. In other words, it never makes contact with the outside world so the fiber internet won't give you an advantage here unless you are playing multiplayer games that connect externally (fiber internet is awesome outside that, though, so congrats - you'll never be able to go back after you experience those download speeds!!). For this integration, what you need is a good/dedicated router - specifically a "6e" router. Having one dedicated for this use case, that isn't also used for your phone, smart lights, etc. will give you the best results. A router is an extra $100+ cost, though, when you can get a good PCVR link cable for like $15. And great call on going to test one out first! If you feel like you get motion sickness, try to play with the settings - most games have settings for teleporting movement and vignetting on the edges to reduce motion sickness.. this may help you get used to it more quickly. I'm not sure what headsets the place near me uses but well VR is still VR, I assume if one works fine then I should be good for the others, but yeah I'll definitely tweak and look at guides online if I have any issues, thanks again for taking the time to write such detailed responses, it's very kind of you mate. Great review, seems very balanced. I use the Valve Index and was on the fence about upgrading, and honestly, with respect to the Quest 3, this review has convinced me to wait for a future VR headset. My impression is that, overall, the Q3 is a minor upgrade on the VI and not really worth it. The battery life is very off putting, and a lot of the big improvements don't mean much to me, such as headset weight, wireless, passthrough. They're all a bonus, for sure, but insignificant (to me) in relation to FOV, frame rate, resolution, processing power, lens quality. Still, I appreciate that Meta creating a fairly strong all-rounder will raise the bar for other developers. Might even put pressure on other developers to get a move on *sideways glance at Valve*

      Appreciate that, thank you! I agree that holding out sounds like the best choice for you - it seems like you have a heavy PCVR focus and quality is important (presumably for simulation games?). The Quest 3 is definitely a visual upgrade from the Valve Index, but if you're not going to take advantage of the wireless streaming (which does have artifacts and latency), mixed reality/passthrough, and standalone apps, then you're leaving a lot on the table and agreed those 'upgrades' become minor. And agreed! Meta has done an excellent job with the Quest 3 IMO - they really did build a perfect, affordable headset for the masses. It not only raises the bar for devs, but also increases the adoption rate of VR in general.. I've been on the sidelines watching the VR world unfold for just over a decade and I've never seen this level of hype for what's next. If you aren't in a rush and have the budget, the Pimax Crystal Super is on the way with 2 interchangeable headset options; and, if you're on a budget, their Crystal Light is going to drop in like a week or so for only $700-900 depending on the variation you choose (both of which you can continue to use with your existing controllers and lighthouse setup). I pre-order the Super to review since it won't be out until later this year; I may pick up the Crystal Light here as well if I manage to catch up on my backlog of videos in time. Both seemed like a crazy value for the money, but I've never used a Pimax device before (they were going to send me the Crystal to test but then didn't when they realized I needed more than 2 weeks to review it).

If you have a chance to review it at some point I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Qled 4k res at 120hz vs the Micro-qled 4k at 90 hz. Any specific questions or things you want to know that might help? If you're into VR, it's definitely the best bang-for-your-buck headset on the market still.. and by a long shot. It can support most things you'd want, like playing games, watching movies, browsing the web, mixed reality, etc. and now they're even adding some of the spatial computing fancy stuff. There's no other headset that offers that combination of magic and features (and there's not another headset that competes in a single niche for the same price). The only real competitor at this point is the Quest 2, which is about 80% the experience at only $200 (you're missing out on the better visuals and improved mixed reality, and future proofing, but that's about it) - so if you're unsure about VR or have a limited budget, I might start there.
