I love how clean and “normal” you guys build the cars. Not some crazy extravagant TH-camR builds. Just clean proper everyday involved enthusiast guy builds.
@@ButtKickersReviews just my opinion though. Never really liked leather seats cause we experience heat a lot from where we are and I feel more comfortable seating in a fabric than a leather seat
Appreciate how "honest" your videos are. They're relatable in that you show the struggle and don't skip over the process. I'm also in the process of restoring my rhd Supra so I'm excited to see what you do with the rear seats. Also gotta figure out how to do your BTI gauge hack!
I have a welding tip for my SA brothers... When welding things with odd shapes that are hard to get a ground on, use 10 gauge copper stereo wire with the insulation cut off. wrap that around your part, then clamp the ground to the wire. I would have used the TIG tho. i would hated myself if welding splatter would have hurt my interior. I like the steering wheel, good job. For the plastic panels that need refurbish, i like to use hydro-dipping, but I'm surprised at how good plasti-dip worked💪
for people that wanna do the gauge like pete did but dont have the rubber ring, electrical tape does the same job. for my gauges in my 240 i drilled a 52mm (2in) hole in a piece of aluminum and after deburring it was closer to 53mm. so a couple wraps of electrical tape to mount it with friction, and as an added benefit it protects the gauges from getting scratched. and i just put the aluminum plate with the gauges under my radio for a temporary solution. also for the window switch panel i think sem trim black might look a bit better and be significantly more durable than plastidip
+1 on SEM trim black! It's basically pure magic how it can look exactly as OEM on different manufacturers trim pieces can spray smooth or get an eggshell texture with experimenting, it also holds up well to outside trim! Plasti-dip in a high contact/touch point area is just going to end up bad... especially with only one coat laid down and on a smooth unprepped surface like the trim piece in the video, at least 3 or 4 coats and 4 days to fully cure. At least when it ends up with a tear you can peel it off in a sheet.
Definitely liking the OEM+ look with the gauge and steering wheel upgrade. IMO would go with the leather recaros to keep the theme going with the leather shift knob and keep the factory sport touring street+ clean look. If this was going to be a more of a track duty car then I would recommend the fabric recaro seats.
You have to love the “easy” jobs that end up taking you a way longer than you anticipated. Hours spent cursing the Engineers who designed whatever you’re working on.
That Gauge pod came out so nice, and if someone wants to replicate it, they don't really need that rubber sleeve, the previous owner's good friend, the electrical tape, does a great job at that :p.
Exactly!! As a welder I'm sitting here saying just weld it. Glad you fired up the welder. Next time put needle nose vice grips on the nut, and then clamp your ground to the vice grips
I don't feel like the Supra is really a leather seats kinda car IMO. The fabric Recaro's would be comfortable, have better longevity (especially on a weekend warrior), easily cleaned, and look like a perfect match to me. Can't really go wrong with either option though. That gauge install was spot on btw 👏
Im so glad I came across your vids, you both have a great passion for cars and it's inspiring and I'm so glad you aren't those loud obnoxious creators. Thanks for your content! Much love from the UK
There is actual vinyl and trim paint as well as cloth and vinyl paint. Duplicolour is the brand that I have tried and it works exceedingly well on plastic trim for colour changes or just to refresh the finish. I have refreshed those panels by cleaning the gunk off them and recoating them with the vinyl paint . If you warm the plastic with hot water uniformly the paint will become part of the plastic just about so it is very durable.
The Supra is looking SO good! Love all mods you guys chose to install. I cannot wait to see it finished (preferably with the Ridox style body kit 😋). Not sure why, but I prefer the leather Recaro seat over the fabric one. Cannot go wrong with either though!
TRD wheel is very bulky, but still very nice. The new all black wheel fits the entire build a whole lot better. It’s totally OEM+, and very minimalistic. It looks like it belongs in an oem “upgraded” version of a Supra. Fits the dash and console well. Nice job 👍
I found the clipping in of the interior dash parts so satisfying! It usually means that your done with everything and ready to drive! Best part of modding cars :P
I think you guys made all the right choices with the interior so far. As for the seats, I say go with the leather set. They have a more neutral stitching pattern to help that OEM+ look you're going for.
I have owned 10 MKIV Supras, and I usually have ran into this seat issue, but have always gotten it to work by wiggling/pushing the chair and sliding the switch back and forth. Has never failed me thus far.
The Celica Steering Wheel actually looks very nice... but as aftermarket steering wheels go, you selected a pretty nice one over there. Looks really sober.
I originally voted cloth on the IG post, but after watching this video I think the leather Recaros will flow with the interior better. Especially after adding that shift knob, e-brake handle, and Personal wheel.
I do like the wheel you put in your Supra but another nice steering wheel is the oem 3 spoke Carbon fibre wheel not the TRD one. That’s the one I went with in my car. Awesome content guys from a fellow Canadian Supra owner.
The Personal steering wheel looks great. I am using a Nardi Classic, also 350mm and black w/black stictching, but I feel like you can't go wrong with either choice when you are going for the JDM look.
I would have used SEM interior paint for the door trim piece. They have colors that match Toyota interior very well. Used it to unsticky the dash in my IS300 years ago and it has held up very well.
You know Pete is getting tired when he's busting out multiple "as such..."'s in one explanation. Glad it worked out and the door panel looks good! I'd say leather seats since it's more of a cruiser car, but the cloth looks good too!
Definitely go for the leather recaros. Really get my OCD going how it's fabric in the front and leather in the rear plus I'm not feeling the design detail on the fabric ones
Cloth seats are the way to go here. They look closer to OEM, and will have a better feel, especially on those hot days at the track. The leather looks more like cheap vinyl, it's just too shiny. I'm still not getting used to the wheel color. They just don't work on a red car. You'd be much better off with gray/black wheels in the same style.
Just a heads up guys you can very inexpensively buy another remote locking setup with a key and transponder that are coded together. I paid about $200aud for mine and it works perfectly. Nice to have remote central locking that's for sure!
LOve the Personal wheel. I run the same (But with yellow stithcing) in my JZA80, and I have the factory optioned Carbon Wheel and TRD wheel here, but prefer the Personal!
I love how clean and “normal” you guys build the cars. Not some crazy extravagant TH-camR builds. Just clean proper everyday involved enthusiast guy builds.
Legit. 1000whp drift builds…. Then again Dave and Pete are into real Motorsports not just trendy drifting.
+1
The fabric recaros look better and would feel better overall cause it doesn't attract heat as fast as leather does
The fabric would feel better but the leather would look much better. It would tie together the steering wheel and the shift boot.
‘Attracting heat’ isn’t something that would concern me,.. if I lived in Canada
You realize heat travels from hot to cold right? What you said doesn’t make any logical sense
@@ButtKickersReviews just my opinion though. Never really liked leather seats cause we experience heat a lot from where we are and I feel more comfortable seating in a fabric than a leather seat
The frustrations and realities of car projects, glad you guys show it, not just edit it out, we all experience it!

At the 6:40 mark. When the friendliest of Canadians start dropping F Bombs, you know it’s going to be a long day! 😂

I'm with others on the fabric seat covers. Grippier and more comfortable in my opinion.
for people that wanna do the gauge like pete did but dont have the rubber ring, electrical tape does the same job. for my gauges in my 240 i drilled a 52mm (2in) hole in a piece of aluminum and after deburring it was closer to 53mm. so a couple wraps of electrical tape to mount it with friction, and as an added benefit it protects the gauges from getting scratched. and i just put the aluminum plate with the gauges under my radio for a temporary solution. also for the window switch panel i think sem trim black might look a bit better and be significantly more durable than plastidip
I forgot to suggest a rubber band or two would also accomplish the job
rubber bands likely will crumble with enough time, not a permanent solution
+1 on SEM trim black! You can also get a rubber tape from an electrical supply store. And it doesnt get all gummy over time like electrical tape.
Or 15mins on a 3D printer but the primitive electrical tape works for that OEM+
Definitely liking the OEM+ look with the gauge and steering wheel upgrade. IMO would go with the leather recaros to keep the theme going with the leather shift knob and keep the factory sport touring street+ clean look. Guess the best engineers don't get sent to work on seat mounting design
It's always like that. You think the job will take 30min and then 3 hours later you finish, lol.
@Bias I laughed out loud at this
That Gauge pod came out so nice, and if someone wants to replicate it, they don't really need that rubber sleeve, the previous owner's good friend, the electrical tape, does a great job at that :p.
I felt that frustration with the seat lol. That steering wheel looks much better, it's coming together
Exactly!! As a welder I'm sitting here saying just weld it. Glad you fired up the welder. Next time put needle nose vice grips on the nut, and then clamp your ground to the vice grips
Thanks Pete & Dave for keeping the builds real. And exposing all the normal troubles we all suffer through
The way that gauge pod looks so OEM+ and fits flush and so perfectly is just ultimately satisfying
Fabric seats!! Absolutely best taste in modifying these cars and staying true to the oem+ life
Nothing is quite like the pain of putting old plastic trim back together, but when it’s all together it’s so satisfying
I like the shot at 22:48 it really shows how the interior has come together
That gauge install is OEM++ for sure. Props on that.
Best part of the weekend is getting the notification that speedacademy has uploaded a new video!
That gauge is amazing!
Total game changer
SEM makes great interior paint that color match
You almost have to go with leather as it would match the steering wheel and shift knob nicely!
I plasti dipped my interior panels on my elantra. It lasted for years and several hundred thousand miles later.
Cloth is the way to go!!!!
I don't feel like the Supra is really a leather seats kinda car IMO. The fabric Recaro's would be comfortable, have better longevity (especially on a weekend warrior), easily cleaned, and look like a perfect match to me. Im so glad I came across your vids, you both have a great passion for cars and it's inspiring and I'm so glad you aren't those loud obnoxious creators. Thanks for your content! Much love from the UK
The fabric recaros! The darker fabric gives it a better contrast with the interior for sure!
There is actual vinyl and trim paint as well as cloth and vinyl paint. Duplicolour is the brand that I have tried and it works exceedingly well on plastic trim for colour changes or just to refresh the finish.

Not sure why, but I prefer the leather Recaro seat over the fabric one. Cannot go wrong with either though!
Glad to see I am not the only one who struggled with getting the passenger kick panel back on nicely once an aftermarket ECU was installed!
I don't normally like aftermarket seats but those leather recaro look soo good.
TRD wheel is very bulky, but still very nice. The new all black wheel fits the entire build a whole lot better. It’s totally OEM+, and very minimalistic. It looks like it belongs in an oem “upgraded” version of a Supra. Fits the dash and console well. Nice job 👍
Excellent job again u guys are the number 1 channel on TH-cam in books. Keep it coming
Leather for that clean and luxurious look. Fabric for the racer look.
I found the clipping in of the interior dash parts so satisfying! It usually means that your done with everything and ready to drive! Best part of modding cars :P
With that type of grounding problem, you can put a pair of locking pliers on the nut, put the ground strap on the locking pliers, and voilà!
Leather seats will look so good in that interior 👍
The Supra is becoming one of my fave builds! I love that you guys kept to the OE look.
Favourite Ahora ever. Response oriented, awesome fitment and wheels, and those seats, God!!! Fabric all day baby!
That dash reassembly ASMR was awesome, tidy editing 👍
Fabric for me personally. And excellent choice wheel too.
Crazy to see someone spray the series 2 plastics. I had mine pulled and sprayed SEM Trim black and was very happy with painting the series 1 stuff
fabric recaros is definitely the way to go!
I love GTRs but THAT SUPRA looks IMMACULATE! 🤌🏽
Canadian Mickey and Canadian TJ working on their JDM Supra. Cool!
19:13 Even the three spoke wheels from 00's Rav4 look pretty dang good. I put one in my 97 Celica to replace the four spoke wheel
I am loving these JDM builds so much
The personal wheel looks perfect!!
Fabric with the pattern looks really good 👍
LEATHER!! I think it matches the colors of the door trim better. (Through the camera of course. )
The Celica Steering Wheel actually looks very nice... but as aftermarket steering wheels go, you selected a pretty nice one over there. Looks really sober.
BTI has the rectangle screen gauge that would sits in the clock location, that look nice as well. The circle gauge on the vent looks OE++ for sure
watching this channel's videos is like therapy for me :D
Can't wait to see both of these legends out at some shows in the spring/summer!
My God, this Supra is getting very nice!!! I love this car!!!!
Keep up the good work! Love these subtle, clean builds.
I choose fabric seats.
It’s the bronze rim and meaty caliper package for me. Looks sooooo deeeuumnm goood with the red paint. 🥵Solid work solid choices! Cheers
Look into bicycle innertubes for the rubber ring for the gauge pod. Simple cut to fit.
For looks or street use, I'd say you want the leather recaros for sure. For track use, fabric is superior in comfort.
I originally voted cloth on the IG post, but after watching this video I think the leather Recaros will flow with the interior better. Especially after adding that shift knob, e-brake handle, and Personal wheel.
Genuine frustration. The reality of working on cars.
My vote goes to the fabric seats in the Supra 100%
6:43 is how I learned to work on things with my dad 😄
Great episode. Go with the Leather Sportsters also. Way cleaner look to it.
Definitely a great choice in Steering Wheel 👍🏼 and wow That CAN gauger Tho!!!! 😮🙌🏼
If the plastidip doesn't hold up you might want to try SEM trim black. I've used it on various black plastic pieces and its worked out real well.
If you want an OEM+ wheel look at the Celica GTS wheel. I had one in my car, can confirm the airbag works with it just fine too :(
@0:15:52 those satisfying clip sounds
Still hoping to see center caps on those wheels as I slowly catch up on the series. Keep up the awesome content!
Was hoping you guys went with the OEM Celica Tri spoke steering wheel rather than an aftermarket. Overall love the builds you do :)
I would have used SEM interior paint for the door trim piece. They have colors that match Toyota interior very well. Used it to unsticky the dash in my IS300 years ago and it has held up very well.
Love how you got rid of the cars main AC vent instead of the little useless clock right next to it...
Waited for this video for so long! keep it up
You know Pete is getting tired when he's busting out multiple "as such..."'s in one explanation. Glad it worked out and the door panel looks good!
I'd say leather seats since it's more of a cruiser car, but the cloth looks good too!
Semi Gloss Black works the best for me for color matching plastics. 👍🏼
i wish we all had a friend and a business partner like pt
use copper wiring to ground weird welds
i vote fabric seats
mk4 build looks clean
The celica steering wheel does look great in the supra
Definitely go for the leather recaros. Really get my OCD going how it's fabric in the front and leather in the rear plus I'm not feeling the design detail on the fabric ones
cloth is always the correct choice over leather
Can we get a remarkable count? DP’s use of the word remarkable is remarkable.
Fabric recaros ftw
This week a Supra sold for $124k on B-A-T........so all this effort is worth it!
I like the steering wheel that's on there
id consider flocking some of the interior bits. would look nice. especially with the fabric seats.

Got a link where to buy?
@@speedacademy TH-cam deleted my comment with the link. I've PM'd you on the Facebook page.
Sheesh it looks great!!! I really like that gauge tho!
If you wanted extreme oem plus you guys couldn't get a better option than confetti recaros!! 🎉🎉
We wanted that for the centers on the Sportsters but no stock :(
@Speed Academy love your supra content guys please never stop doing what you do look forward to every upload from you guys!
The old rubbery coating on the plastic panels is hell to get off, I ended up using a blade to scrape it off then sanded smooth and painted
I prefer fabric, but it's your dream car 🙃
That driver seat seams to be the hardest part of the build
I had the same problem with the seat in my IS300. Fortunately it is stuck in a position that suits my driving so it's going to stay there!
LOve the Personal wheel. I run the same (But with yellow stithcing) in my JZA80, and I have the factory optioned Carbon Wheel and TRD wheel here, but prefer the Personal!
Definitely the cloth seats.
Fabric seats imo. Less stress to worry about in the heat performance
