  • The weather window was short but still seemed worth it to try for striped bass from the kayak. Able to locate a good body of fish, but they really didn't cooperate much. Still a good time and although frustrating, trying to figure out a bite is one of my favorite aspects of fishing.

    Hey Peter! That was a picky session. I recently had a striper session back home where they wanted baits as small as 2 inches or less! Great job on matching size and executing! I feel your frustration man

      good to know I'm not alone, yeah its amazing how they just decide to only want a specific size or type of bait. Frustrating for sure but still love it, lol!

    All in all a great trip! I have had similar experiences this season with picky fish. I have been bringing bunker snagging/live lining rigs with me each time I go out because it seems to be working better than any artificial right now

    Great to have you back in action after a long winter Pete! It’s great to see you out finding time to post during your busy schedule. You’re spot on about the lazy presentation. Hello Peter, Doug P. again from Mamaroneck Harbor. Thank you for responding to my comments about your last vid. with your wife. I received some of those jig worms and they look good esp. the black orange from Bass Pro Shops. The color you use so successfully in your vids. is not obtainable on Bass Pro Shops and not obtainable on Amazon unfortunately. I might try to head East tomorrow try for some catch n release Sea Bass. Your wrote that you were 'Middle Region' working boulders in 25' to 35' feet ... were you Smithtown Bay ? A lill more east ? Keep up the great work my friend !!! Doug P.

      Hey Doug! Im glad to hear you're going to try those worms out - I really think its one of the seabass' favorites out there in the middle sound region. I've messed with a few colors but havent really noticed that one stands out among the rest...so when I say "middle region" of the sound I'm referring to the area between port jefferson and mattituck. that part of the sound def seems a bit different geographically. Thanks for your support, please let me know if they work for you, use as light a jig head as possible!

    There has been so much sand eels in all the areas I fish making for some extremely difficult fishing some days. Even the blues are rolling on top on sand eels ignoring larger offerings. If sand eels and rain bait stay around at this volume fall run and albie season will be insane this year!

    Soooo many things to comment about.
    1st..... I read that title and thought,"How long until we see Pro Cure?" About halfway....
    2nd These are my favorite fishing conditions.... overcast, cool air, cool water, lite winds..... But, great "fishing" conditions don't always equate to great "catching" conditions....
    3rd... On a tuff bite, I think it is NEVER the lure. It's also not your line being too visible. It's something else. The tide. The air pressure. They're full. The fish are preoccupied with mating, protecting, building, hiding from predators, etc.... You can use the whole tackle box. They'll only eat when they're ready. I also think..... You would have caught the same using those cut crabs you've used in past clips....
    4th I always troll homeward bound, too. I can remember not being able to get home as the sun was setting because the trout bite was one after the other.
    5th Thanks. I really enjoy your clips. There's no theatrics. Your vernacular is the same as if you're just fishing with a friend instead of overdoing it with hype or hyperbole.
    Of course..... I tapped the thumbs up 👍 button to feed the algorithm monsters.

      Love these long comments man, you think a lot like I do. I'm really starting to think the same in terms of it doesnt even matter what you put in front of them, if they not in the mood then nothin will do it - with the exception of live bait but even then...thanks for the support, I'm learning a lot as well through the back and forth here

    • @pastapaul150

      So typical. You left out the part about "on a tuff bite"..... What we need from you is a video using 5-ish different lures that aren't working on a TUFF DAY....and then break out your "diffence maker" lure and pull up a trophy fish with it.

    RI's head boat, the Frances Fleet, will be running an overnight fluke trip out to Nantucket Sunday night into Monday. So I and a lot of other people are hoping it's a sign that they'll bring back their overnight and 3-day tuna trips. They had to suspend their long range trips when fuel prices surged to over $6.50 a gallon three years ago.

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That over night fluke trip to the nantucket shoals sounds awesome - always wanted to try it for the experience - but yeah I'd almost rather do a canyon trip or further for tuna etc if I'm gunna be at sea that long

    • @joshuariddensdale2126
      @joshuariddensdale2126 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PeterRanieriII Exactly. Going out to Nantucket for fluke doesn't justify the cost for me. Now, a long range trip for tuna, that's a different story. The overnight trip used to be $500 a person, while the marathon 3-day trip was $625 a person. Both running a limited load of 24 people.

    In your experience could bass be sensitive to a 20lb leader? I normally use this but perhaps downsizing would lead to more bites? Curious to get your thoughts.

    • @PeterRanieriII
      @PeterRanieriII  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hmmm, I think its possible in shallow clear water. I think the leader needs to match the size of the lure/jig weight your using as well because when you start using less than1/2oz jig heads you really don't want a stiff thick leader as it will start to affect the action. 20lb should be good though in most scenarios for bass. Like you I also normally use this for bass
