    Now that you have your laser you can revisit the tiles. I found that using the thin colored hobby craft eva foam sheets you can use the etch function of your laser and etch the designs into the foam and it will texture it. Because the foam is really flexible I then got some adhesive backed vinyl floor tiles, flipped them over, and then applied the foam to the adhesive side which gave them strength. And with the etch function and lightburn you can convert any image into a pattern for the tiles.

      Yup I made 6 inch tiles in another video. I’m sure you’ll see it. Soon. 🤣

    Love this. Good job on going through the pros and cons of tiles. I have four the buggers, just to spruce up my battle mat. No coloumns or walls or such, though (yet).

      This is how it starts. The addiction begins with just a few tiles, and before you can blink, your entire front room is filled with little plastic walls! 🤣🤣

    Didn't realise columns and walls would only fit on specific squares on these things, so quite glad I went the MDF route - just ordered some "Maze of the dead" tiles which are cheaper, can incorporate LED lighting underneath, have magnets installed at the centre of every tile so you can just do the same with various terrain pieces and, most importantly - can actually be bought right now.

      Yeah, I have an upcoming video about all the possible options.
      I like the “idea” of LEDs but in practice I don’t play in the dark so I’m not sure how useful lights actually are they look cool for all of 5 seconds and then you turn all the lights on to play a game… 😜

    This was great. I've been trying to think about how I integrate ZM, Sector Mech and Gallowdark terrain. I think you've sold me on not glueing it all together.

      Hey David, yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Mainly so I can use all this terrain in everything from 40k to Stargrave.

    One thing I would ask. Your voice is a little quiet and the intro video is quite loud. Listening to you on my headphones when out and about makes me need to turn the volume down for those intro sections and back up for the rest of the video. Otherwise, love the videos ☺️

    • @thestateofplay2023
      @thestateofplay2023  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, that’s a bit weird as it’s all recorded at the same time at the same volume and I don’t change anything. Do you mean the logo sound? I can lower that for the next videos, absolutely.

    • @NobalGaming
      @NobalGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thestateofplay2023 Yeah, sorry for the confusion. I do mean the logo section. The logo sound can get really sharp. Especially as it's rising in towards the end.

      Sadly I can’t as they’re a scan and print of my battlemat which I purchased. I’d be breaking quite a number of copyright laws. I am working on a battlemat video right now which should help.

    LOVE your channel! Do you have any tips for making tiles flat/not whobbly? Hot water did not work, it made it worse :/ and they are too curved to put modular terrain on, it pops off after a few moments..

    • @thestateofplay2023
      @thestateofplay2023  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, there’s two options. Heat it gently with a hairdryer and keep bending until you get it flat. Well, as flat as it can go. And second is to glue all your tiles to something else that’s thick and flat and won’t bend. Like an MDF sheet or piece of wood. All choices are a pain sadly.
      Your very first option is to return them. Games Workshop are usually pretty good at exchanging things that are faulty.

    • @JeanWayne
      @JeanWayne ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thestateofplay2023 i already returned them twice. Got 4 boxes out of, I assume madness. Returned them twice, was allowed to keep the old ones. now i have got 48 wobbly tiles :D and not even close to enough walls for it. Guess i will try the mdf solution. I like the idee, as the plate will be also hader to move! Maybe add some rubber feets too. Thx, nice idea :D

    • @andybillco2424
      @andybillco2424 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeanWayne yeah, same problem I had. I did the exact same things as you and eventually gave up on the tiles. A good hardware store should be able to cut MDF for you for quite cheap. When you glue them really clamp them down hard. Really heavy books can help!

    • @malcolmrose3361
      @malcolmrose3361 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JeanWayne I think that, as well as the MDF base, you should consider a two inch thick slice of pink/blue foam between the MDF and the plastic tile. That will mean that if you want to build a sump, or pool of toxic sludge you can actually go down. I'd also say paint both sides of the MDF with a PVA solution before gluing anything to them - you don't want the MDF to warp too.

  • @byebyebuy
    @byebyebuy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What about cutting tiles into quarters? Then you could rotate them much mores easily. It does create more headaches on where the walkways join but then is that half the fun?

    • @thestateofplay2023
      @thestateofplay2023  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The way the tiles are moulded makes cutting them difficult. Because the sides won’t all be the same height. Sadly.

  • @TheDaisyFeet
    @TheDaisyFeet ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Haha, I never thought to glue mine down I guess I lose the speed of setup but mine are fully modular are pack away nice and tight.

  • @garyjenson1326

    Also the tiles allow for pre-measuring. Once you know the dimensions of the square it becomes impossible to not count. This is why they are a hard no for me.

    • @robertcummings3205

      You could say that with just a table top and any scenery once you know the sizes you can pretty much workout the distances anyway

    • @garyjenson1326
      @garyjenson1326 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@robertcummings3205 yes but counting squares is just too easy. So easy that I think people do it without even realizing. Plus even spacings that is on the inch isnt the same as a 2.25 inch piece. The grids I use are metal that are odd sized so a person would have to work out fractions. Still possible but my hope is it stops the casual cheater.
