Thank you so much for introducing me to this! I've never enjoyed predefined route running that much. On hikes I would bring a compass and map, but would only seldomly use it because of convenience of GPS on the phone. THIS sport seems to scratch that perfect itch to finally make use of traditional navigation techniques. Thanks again!
I tend to not use GPS and instead look at the map before leaving to a destination by memorising the paths I need to take. I'm from Finland and we have orienteering as a part of the school P.E. curriculum throughout the education system. We also do plenty of contests in it. It's great, highly recommended fun and fairly relaxed sport.
Do you think that our reliance on digital GPS applications has lessened our navigational abilities?

That's awesome! Scandinavian education systems seem to be really innovative and ahead of the US in a lot of ways, from what I understand.
