  • Greetings All,
Whilst figuring out how the Ricochet rifle was engineered to make that distinctive sound I learned that some of them were also capable of emitting a whisp of smoke while simultaneously a distinctive POP! Pondering if the #660 was capable of all three effects, I took it apart and discovered that it did indeed do all three. Here's the deets on a magical gun that retailed for $2.98 in 1960. That's a lot of tech for a reasonable price!
    Thanks for watching!

Thanks for doing this video Shane, it's been very useful. The Cheyenne internals are the same. I would imagine that the internals of the 960 Old Trusty Training Rifle are also the same. It certainly has the muzzle spring and valve. Cheers, Alan.

I enjoyed seeing the workings of the smoke creating system. I recently restored a Buck Jones. It has a long spring that looks to be about the same as the 660.

Thank you for posting this…my thunderbird(Daisy pop gun made in Preston Ontario) it looks to be different as the front stuff seems to be much lower…mine is beat up,hardly has any paint left…the thing is it does not pop it bangs!!!!i have had it for probably 50 years and oil it religiously…I have all the skills and tools and a good fire bleu would really revitalize it. I do not have the courage to take apart for fear it will no longer thunder…

I often thought of the big springs I saved, I could cut one to length for a bb gun. They are really strong. Some of the shafts are long also and can be cut to reuse in bb shooters.

Shane ,thats is really very cool and amazing that someone thought that out to get it to do all that in one shot . Very interesting video !!! I have never seen one much less apart !!! Great to see your helper with you again. Best Regards to yall.

You're too kind Sarge. I'm too lazy to write a script, plot a shot chart and then edit.

This potentially solves a mystery for me. An old Plymouth 102-36 I recently picked up on ebay had a massively long spring like this in it when I disassembled it. I noticed it shot harder than another, newer 102 I have, so I wanted to see what was going on. I believe someone who owned the gun previously must have put a 660 spring it it at some point. In fact, I now need to make a spring press to get it back together, as the spring is so strong I can't hold it down with one hand and insert the plunger head and pin with the other, like I do on other Daisies. If it is indeed a 660 spring in my 102, I'd love to know how that came about. It would be great if these old guns could talk.

I wonder if anyones tried swapping the spring into a BB firer and seen what the results were, probably not a viable option anymore with the Ricochet being less common but definately got me intrigued.

Can you tell me where I can sell my daisy bb gun collection?

@@rogerfoutz7811 Varies by country, usually enthusiast sites are the best place to start.

I don't think the #660 spring would be usable on a standard small frame plunger without cutting some loops off. It was pretty near total compression while installing the second plunger shaft.

Depends a lot on the collection, we talking 10 guns or 500?@@rogerfoutz7811

Shane ,what would happen if you put the pop gun long spring into a shooting rifle like a 99 or Red Ryder ? Wonder if you could get it to compress enough ...or i am off base of that thought ? Smile 😊

I don't think it would work, but I have not tried.

So this is the only "airgun" that you do want to be dieseling as much as possible basically 😁
