I started playing the stuff around 1963 when Fender products were still new and affordable. Actually, my first instrumentals were Dwayne Eddy stuff, before Dick Dale's Miserlou. .
"Surf music rules"...been playing it now for a few years . . .dating myself as I used to surf back in the '60s. Got back into serious guitar playing again four years ago and got my guitar instructor "hooked" on surf music...he is now STOKED
Fantastic! I’m a long time fan of the Venture’s and appreciated that they stayed true to the spirit of an original song, and not bastardize it. Got a ‘62 reissue of the Fender Jazzmaster too. Marvelous!
Ventures fan here too but they didn't stay true to the original song AT ALL, they did it in disco style. Nothing wrong with that just saying - though I think they missed the point of the sing turning it into disco style. This man here stays true to the original. Nothing beats the Shadows and the original in their field. Cheers
A fine rendition of Apache. Refreshing to hear someone play this song without trying to sound like Marvin. I don't have a Jazzmaster, but a Fender Jaguar. However, I play Shadows music on either this Jaguar or on the Six Bass and even on a Les Paul and a Steinberger headless guitar. I never cared for *that* sound. It has always been my goal to play any music the way I like it. But again, a fine rendition!
Good question. The original version was recorded by a British guitarist named Bert Weedon and later recorded by The Shadows (who had the huge hit). My guess is that Jerry Lordan, the composer, had guitar in mind when he wrote it in 1960.
@@anotherheadlessdemo sorry to take this long to reply. I absolutely love this guitar. Sounds great, neck is super comfortable, looks killer with the anodized gold pick guard.
Dave have you ever played Walk Dont Run by the Ventures learned it long time id play rhrthm my brother would play lead guitar we did a New year performance a few years agohe and i played Fender Mustangs through 74 deluxe reverb he had one also

I have doubts if I buy the squier vibe jazzmaster or the jsquier vibe jaguar, my main guitar is a squier telecaster affinity and I like to play beatles, the police, the smiths, the cure and surf rock, which guitar would you recommend of both?
I've never owned a Jaguar, so I can't really say much about those. I have two Jazzmasters; the Squier J Mascis and the Classic Vibe. The CV sounds more authentic but the JM has a better build quality. Here's my review of both: th-cam.com/video/X0AeEHFBO8k/w-d-xo.html
I've never played an American Professional or any Fender (not Squire) Jazzmaster. I'd love to see a comparison though. The build quality (neck, body, paint, frets) is on a par with many Fender guitars. The pots and wiring, switches etc, probably not so much.
It's pretty good - not to say it never goes out of tune of course. I gigged with it over the weekend and it did really well. One thing I have noticed is when I put the guitar down, and then pick it up again, I need to retune 2 or 3 strings. Not sure why. My Telecaster doesn't do that.
The CV definitely sounds more like a classic Jazzmaster. The neck on the JM has a great feel though. Here's my comparison: th-cam.com/video/X0AeEHFBO8k/w-d-xo.html
Great! Def a good idea not to listen to the Shadows version and just do your own thing with it! Wow the that Squiere has a beautiful tone... although the thruth be said, the tone is in the fingers and mind of the artist! Do you think it's worth paying double the price to buy the Fender Jazz Master? Thanks :)
I've never owned or even played a Fender Jazzmaster, so it's hard to say if it's worth the extra money. I do know that J Mascis has used the Squier version on tour, along with his vintage Jazzmasters. That says a lot I think.
@@anotherheadlessdemo Yep that says a lot! I've had a Gibson Less Paul for nearly 30 years now and have always played LP style guitars with humbuckers... but think it's time for a single coil Fender change! Obvioulsly the original Fender version is build with finer woods and one would suppose that it has a general higher quality build... but i'm well impressed with this Squiere JaszzMaster... I think it's the top of the range of the SQ's and comes with the Fender JM pickups... anyway, great tone... thanks and happy surf playing! :)
@@anotherheadlessdemo I am not a full-fledged expert, but as I heard this sounding on the disc exactly during these years on the tube equipment - that hit the top ten.
Hey, nice playing! I need help with my squier cv 60s jazzmaster. How do you set up yours? How do you deal with tremolo detuning? Do you wrap bridge poles with tape? DO you lubricate ALL string friction points? Any advices, please?
The J Mascis has a Gibson style bridge (very solid). I do have a CV as well and I'm trying figure out how to make it more stable. I have been lubricating the nut (which helps), but I haven't taped the bridge (yet). I hate the bridge, even with the Mustang saddles.
I'm digging this , David, but one thing's missing, that sound. C'mon, you know what it is, I can't spell it. On the whole, Jorgen Ingman's version is the essential one, and I'm not selling you short.
I've been in a couple of bands that slavishly attempted to copy tunes just like the record. I always found it frustrating because I've always wanted to do my own interpretation, for better or worse. :)
@@anotherheadlessdemo Please know that I wasn't criticizing the song or the playing. It's just with "Apache" Ingman had that little thing he did with the strings (like an arrow being fired?) that I always wait to hear. Just one of those crazy little things.
Love my J Mascis Jazzmaster. So much quality for so little.
Absolutely. I haven't played another guitar in this price range that's as good.
Very nice playing and tone. Surf music rules.
Thanks Fred. Surf music is the best!

Hank Marvin (Shadows) played a Stratocaster. I like my Jaguar. But you can't go wrong with the Jazzmaster also.

A Joyo American Sound pedal. It's like having a Deluxe Reverb in a box. :)
