Carolyn, I love you for who you are, how you are living your life, at least in your pre-academic performance years, and much of your poetry ... I know poetry, I know your poetry as you share a sense of yourself and what you experience there and here, inside you and me and around us, and I hope that you and I will live in our many dimensions even more beautifully ... yet this poem, my dear poet friend, is stonily academic ... you share with me, with your other reading companions, this rosary poem of academic pride, expression, and essential boredom beyond so much of how you have lived your life in earlier years and how wonderful you deeply are ...
in our u.s. publishing and academic world I know that it is common for academics to enter that intelligent, numb community of people who share self-importance and then leave our deep, intelligent, and hugely experienced beauty and moral sense as we perform for institutional self-importance and familiarity ... I love you, dear, please return home ... we are beautiful and helpful if we shrug at institutional seld/importance ...
