EMFX "Shade Stopper" Solar Panel

- Does shade get you down - down on power on that is. With standard solar panels, even a small fraction of the panel in the shade can drop the output significantly. Why? Well basically the lowest performing cell will limit the output of all the other cells that it is connected to. The solution involves isolating and bypassing the lowest performing cells, which is tricky and most likely an expensive undertaking.
But the experts at EMFX have done just that with their patent-pending "shade stopper" solar panel technology. Their first product is a 100w portable folding panel with standard 18v output. It features an ETFE coating, magnetic clasp, and adjustable kickstands.
The panel outputs 18v via a DC 5521 barrel, which is disappointing. MC4 would be preferred, but adapters are available. An 8mm adapter is included (for Jackery, Bluetti and others) but you will need to source a XT60 or Anderson adapter. And always check the polarity with a volt meter before connecting a solar panel to your power station with 3rd party adapters.
This panel is ideal for shady areas obviously, and might be a great option for apartment dwellers who want to experience the wonders of solar power or just want to have a backup power source if the grid goes down.

Yes it does IF you buy the XT60 cable they sell for it as well (it is not included).
The cable is available on their website and Amazon (just search "EMFX cable").
I purchased your solar panel. It did not come with directions as to how the adapters can be swapped out. I would really like a reply, please.
The adapters attach to the end of the cable. Just slide them onto the tip of it.
Contact the company (in description). They'll send whatever adapters you need at no charge.
I like this price but don’t like the connector. If I got an adapter how bad would this affect the input? I am still learning. I have a Dabbsson power station and a Dabbsson 120watt solar panel.
Adapters don't create any power loss.
Its just a different topology. Theoretically every single cell can have a bypass diode on it after all. It could easily be argued that current solar panels are a bit deficient with only two or three bypass diodes. There are half-cell topologies which double the number of bypass diodes. Its nice to see a niche filled, I'd like to know what the actual topology of this shade-stopper panel is. There's nothing special about the cells... it's gonna be the topology and bypass diodes.

do yiou know if there is a way to run these in series. i orderd one and got it. has the 8 mm conector. I have a bluetti 180 so that works but if was a way to run it in series would be able to use more than one. ty for finding this im thiking on shady days it will work better than my two 100 wat panels have had shadey cloudy days since i bouth those most i got out of two 100 wat panesl was 138 w. that was for like 10 minutes. do you know if you can put them in series. the price is worth it. if can do in series wow. let us know please
The only "series" connector for 8mm that I know of is made by Jackery for their power stations that use the larger 8020 8mm input (Jackery Plus / Pro models ONLY).
There are parallel connectors available, and 2 panels will work fine in parallel since they will only output about 10A anyways (the parallel connector and your Bluetti AC180 are both limited to 10A). Try searching Amazon for "KarlKers 8mm Parallel Adapter"

BTW "7909" is the 8mm that this EMFX panel includes, and virtually everybody uses (Bluetti, Goal Zero, all the older "standard" Jackery models etc).
The only brands that use the larger "8020" 8mm are Jackery & Geneverse and only the Pro / Plus models.
Please forgive my ignorance. Was referred by an Amazon reviewer to your review. I have an Anker Solix C-1000 battery, it takes an Anderson connection for which I have a 10' extension with m4 connectors. What is the adaptor I'd need to use this panel? Also, can they be combined in parallel? Will check out your code. Thanks!
Note that the website offers free adaptors, however not combined with your code. Your code knocks of $9.80, adaptor is $9. Decided to go for it.
The Anker C1000 uses an XT60 input for solar, not Anderson. You need a "female 5521 to XT60" adapter. Since the C1000 can accept up to 60v, you can connect 2 of these solar panels in parallel or series - it doesn't matter.
But you will need more adapters (on top of the first adapter) to achieve this. This is why I really wish this panel had a MC4 output cable. But you can make it work. Always check your final connection with a multimeter before plugging into your power station - check for proper polarity (use an included car charger for reference) and check the output voltage.
Try searching amazon for "XT60 series connector". For power station's that can only accept 24v or 30v, you will NEED a parallel adapter.
Hello I have a very weird question.
You know how mc4 to xt60 connectors exist right. Is there such a cable where one side is the cable you plug into your solar panel and the other is a normal 3 pin plug 🔌.
There would be a safety hazard if a male plug is connected to a panel & it was accidentally plugged into 120 V. However, a female socket (that fits that plug) would be safe & easy to do. If you email the Shadestopper co., they can ship a foldable panel (video) or a flat flexible panel with that kind of connector.
@@PattyDung yes that’s what I’m talking about a female socket that fits a 3 pin socket. I sure they don’t sell those kinda connectors on solar panels or in cable form

I wonder how well this would work on the portable eco flow models.
It should work quite well on Ecoflow or any other power station really - since it outputs 18v (which is the standard output voltage). Virtually every power station has a solar input that can accept up to 24v (and many can accept much higher as well).
@@SoGenFan I meant the shade stopper feature. I don’t see many TH-cam videos where people are testing this out. I understand it’s fairly new but still.
@@jokerxd407 The output from this panel is the same voltage-current curve as any other monocrystalline panel. The only diff is that in partial shade, this panel has the same output as a regular panel, but in much less shade, would have.
OK, I'll bite. I ordered one direct from the company using your code (thanks), saving me the 10% ($9.80) and there was no VA tax, which I find is common with new and small vendors. So, I paid 88.20 vs $103.88 on Amazon. Economy shipping is free. I have an odd system, with 1800W of panels behind windows. I'm lucky to get 350W out due to the windows, the vertical placement and living in a neighborhood with trees. I'll be playing with this panel and hoping that this is just the first such panel to hit the market. I don't care about a waterproof rating.
The EMFX company is about to release 100 W (18 volt 5.6 amp) flat flexible panels with the same tech.
I also bought one and decided to try it inside ( we had about 14" of snow). I positioned it facing out through my new Pella sliding door panel (UV rated) and got just under 40 watts. Was a partly cloudy day, but still. None of my other portables pick up anything while inside. When the weather gets better, I will do better comparisons.
My biggest issue is the cable connections, I would have liked to see XT 60 connectors and maybe a pass-thru slot for the cable so I could keep it zipped up.
