Ser criston break his oath but he was still ownereble he wanted to marry rhaynara because he claimed her maddinhed but rhanyra seduced him and wanted him to be her paramore. i she rhanyra has gult then criston and for Joffrey lonnmouth he blackmailed criston so he did nothing wrong by killing. Rhanyras heirs are bastards that's why he named aegon as king.
From a Wiki of Ice and Fire " The knights of the Kingsguard are forbidden to marry, father children, and to hold land." Like Sam said, there's no mention about...

Literally everyone in the rebellion was an oathbreaker. At the last minute even Tywin was an oathbreaker. This is why Jamie has no chill. The hypocrisy melted his knightly brain.
Yeah, I feel he made a decent point when he talked about the fact that some Oaths were hard to keep when under such a circumstance
I mean, with a king like Aerys, or Maegor or Aegon the Unworthy, you've got to consider what "serving" them entails. Jamie obeyed more Oaths than he broke the day that he killed Aerys.
Ironically Jamie did the most knightly thing in saving hundreds of thousands of people by killing the Mad King
@@SpecialNeedsMuffin I like the quote from Sonic and the black Knight “Isn’t being a knight more important than serving some king?” Honestly even without the king a knight still have a duty to protect the people of kingdom and killing the mad king is justified.
That's kinda the point of a rebellion isn't it?
I don't think ned did any oathbreaking. he haven't pledge his allegiance to aerys at that point, his father have and his father is dead, after his father dead ned immediately rebelled before pledging any allegiance or oath to aerys
I actually felt a little bad for Jamie. He sacrificed what little honor he had to save an entire town and yet he gets called a King Slayer for it
Meanwhile the people whose war led to the butchery and slaughter thousands probably tens of thousands, they're heroic. Very cool setup by George with the twist that maybe Jaime is the most honorable there is
and then in season 8 he forgot he cares about the innocent
@@niksutliff
Well, don't get too far ahead now, Jamie has still done other dishonorable things, like fathering bastards under his King as well as the incest with Cersei that would've only been OK for the likes of the Valyrians, not the First Men or Andals
And that's just the bare minimum, especially since he's a Kingsguard
@@thalmoragent9344Love is a hell of a drug.
Though I do think Jaime isn’t a good guy. He’s got some good in him, and a sense of right and wrong. That alone is far more than many characters. But his primary motivation is always his reputation. He constantly thinks about how he looks and about how others think of him.
@@niksutliff that's why I think jaime's the best kingsguard ever, the only who killed his king for the sake of the people
The hound will forever be a legend for that
Jamies real failure was not to protect Rhaegars wife and children.. seeing his fathers army approach and having killed Aeris.. that should've been his place.. instead of sitting on that stupid chair..
Never thought of that, but that’s a brilliant point
@@usaclaimsthemoon4198 this is not brilliant, Jaime saved everyone from that crazy king who wanted to burn that city. This whole Jaime Situation is bs, what’s the point of being a knight, is just nonsense. Knights are just soldiers that follows orders that’s all, they even follows orders that is nonsense. A low born can be a better knight like Duncan and egg. Knighthood is a BS as medieval churches
@@Brandonhayhew huh? So Jaime shouldn’t have saved Rhaegers children? You’re not going to convince me of that
If you want to argue that knights are BS, sure. Technically everything is BS in a fictional book lol
@@usaclaimsthemoon4198 He should've saved or tried to save them(I'm pretty sure he couldn't have saved them).. But can you blame him for not trying.. He just killed the king he had sworn to protect and just became a Kingslayer, losing his honor and realisation of how people are going to see him is a little too much to process
Do you mean Elia or Lyanna? Because if it's the former, he wasn't going to be able to help at all, and if it's the latter, that's because Rhaegar ordered his top 3 loyalist kingsguard to guard the Tower of Joy sans Selmy who went with him. So someone had to guard the king and Jamie was the best choice because Rhaegar knew Tywin would come defend the Keep. Which would've happened had he survived.
Good job avoiding HOT D spoilers, now i can share this with my show only friends.
Be a good friend and buy them the books.
A very interesting view on the kingsguard, with each generation the breaking of vows gets worse and worse.
So…ALL OF THEM???
it is unexpected for someone in such a position of power to be clinging to a vow of poverty and humility, especially as they are normally linked to the Hand or some other person in power. The best knights to wear the white such as Aemon the Dragonknight, Barristan Selmy and Arthur Dayne were rare cases, not the general rule. Some like Harald Westerling lived to the end of their days without doing much (he died of old age in the book) but staying loyal.
The house crests in the blood at 3:30 is such a cool little detail.
Nice
I've finally finished to retrieve all of your videos.
A really fun ride
Criston Cole in the books is a beast.
so as Otto and Alicent!
I like Cristin but he felt so petty in the show
The show massacred our boy
He's also a beast in the show, he's an awesome fighter.
Yep, even Jamie admitted he was lile, the best and the worst of the Kingsguard. He was a helluva fighter.
Jamie and the Hound are very fascinating characters and it’s mainly due to their oathbreaking but Criston, as a show only, felt like such a petty little boy who got mad about the girl he liked. His actor really played the hell out of that cuz the dude was really likeable in the first part. That give him nuances even though I would’ve loved to see him fight more in the show.
For real, I really liked the character and kinda got spoiled about what was gonna happen and couldn't imagine not liking him, but now I hate the character lol
Cole was like that in the book as well
You’ll see him fight more don’t worry
Jamie's true crime was failing to protect the princess and her children.
From the mountain at his father's orders? Lol good luck
@@coldhands2802 You say that as if Jamie wouldn't completely destroy the mountain.
@@AaronGuest all the mountain has to do is sit on Jaime.
@@runtergerutscht4401 Sure jan.
@@AaronGuest by all means, tell me about all the things Jaime can do when the mountain sits down on him. Remember this is the man who crushed a smull with raw power.
Battle of rook's rest gonna be epic.
And the Storming of the Dragonpit is gonna be 🔥
Next is a list of people who've specific "High Treason" against some Lords or the Crown. That'll be fun 😅.
Yeah, Jamies the biggest one.
The primary oath he swore was to protect the king and he ended up killing him, so yeah 😂
And by breaking his oath he saved a city of 500,000+ people
Moral of those Stories :
Never took Oaths if you can't keep them.
That's why Perturabo The Lord of Iron decided to have his iron circle of robots. Because according to him people were unreliable and untrustworthy.
After or before he proved himself untrustworthy by betraying the emperor?
@@runtergerutscht4401 Meh either or. For him at no point would that matter. Still beat Dorn twice. 😆
It's an incredibly interesting look at how irrational morality (and to a significant degree, ideology) can be and how authoritarian, reactionary, superstitious cultures and systems will always lead to conflict, as well as how internal conflict so easily spills out into the world. A commonly held culture with ethics arrived at through logical processes within a participatory system of self-governance in daily things and economics, or anarchism/libertarian socialism, is the antidote 💯
Yay more GOT lore videos
Personally I'm an oatbreaker. But only during breakfast.
Kingslayer,Oathbreaker,Man without honour and my favourite character Jaime lannister 🦁, By what right the wolf judge a lion.
"The man with shit for honour" cant remember who said that about him but its on the books 🤣
Jaime is an idiot but smart. His too much ego like his dad. His no where near like his dad smart. Why did he even release his brother that got his dad killed?
RIP Ser Criston Cole the Kingmaker. My favorite psychopathic peacock and one of the deadliest Knights of his time.
the problem with oaths is that situations change. you only have one life to give and some of us rather not waste the rest of it just because of some silly words we said.
Perhaps the point was to make your words meaningful rather than just empty boasts
An oath is basically a contract that if you break your a scumbag
Words are wind, phrase gets repeated like a hundred times in the books and it's completely true. Being a scumbag only matters to people until it doesn't, and power is more important.
@@shoyupacket5572 eh we shall see lying and cheating might achieve short term gains ie house Lannister but in the long run we shall see if they keep it
Also just in general power is generally in the hands of those who speak sparingly weighing every word blustering fools have very little power
Ie tormund
Mace Tyrell
Great John umber may be the exception that proves the rule
How many times can you break your oath before no one will take you seriously
@@ice843 that's the thing obviously there are consequences, i.e. people call Jaime Kingslayer as a title before anything else even Lord Commander. My point really is that every moment is a chance for fate and you could be sworn to someone strong and honorable or you could be sworn to someone weak and cowardly, in either case there are opportunities to break oaths depending on what the individual may deem most important. For some power is most important, for others they would break their oath to protect the innocent if given immoral orders.
I don't feel like Bolton gets the attention from fans as not only an oath breaker but a king slayer
“Treason…is only a word. When two princes fight for a chair where only one may sit, great lords and common men alike must choose. And when the battle’s done, the victors will be hailed as loyal men and true, whilst those who were defeated will be known forevermore as rebels and traitors. That was my fate.”

Why did Tywin ask Robert to keep Jamie on as a kingsguard?? He didn’t want Jamie in the kingsguard later in the story so why would he want him in it directly after the war? Plothole
Well... you have included the Kingsguard. Why not the Queens Guard as well... Jorah is also an Oathbreaker. So are the Cargyll brothers
Ah Kingsguard, nothing like politics, nepotism, and spite to turn a a position of merit into a tool of politicians. I would have liked to a see a kins of praetorian guard things at some point where the actually determine who gets the crown.
Psh can you really commit "treason" against the crown when the sitting "king" isn't the rightful king?
it's perspective. The Thirteen Colonies were rebels against the British monarch, but the Confederates were rebels against the Union, Simon Bolivar made rebels out of virtually every Spanish colony in south America. Treason is subjective to many.
WC!!!!!
My conspiration theory is that George actually has both books finished and ready, and they will only be released after he passes away. One last big schocking twist and surprise from George.
And maybe also so he doesnt have to put up with the unconfirmed theories
Nah, i don't think they are ready yet. I do however think he works on both of them at the same time to knot all the ties together. I also think he already has completed the ending.
When did the hound take an oath. He despised knights.
Probably when he was appointed to the Kingsguard.
@@Unknownnameplease You mean Joffrey's personal bodyguard. Sandor was never an actual Kingsguard.
@@zillagrilla315 he was made a kingsguard after Joffrey dismissed Barristan

He wore the white cloak. He was kings guard.
@@coldhands2802 yet he seems like a worthy knight and have like virtues of knighthood but his just a soldier. Knights are just soldiers but more financial and have more equipments. Being a knight is just a waste of time and financial
I think Jamie is the considered the worst only because everyone doesn’t know the truth (obviously)
But also time. All these others are in history. Jamie Lannister walks among the living. Every time you see him you think of what he did. The others are all dead and gone. Time healed their wounds but Jamie killed the mad king with the very hand he lost
Why didn't Jaime tell anyone why he killwd the mad king? Seems like that could solve the issue
He felt that no one would believe him and he was kinda in shock

Did you hear they are making a sequel for Jon Snow? After fucking up season 8.
We all knew
@@DLR1997 My guess was they'd try to save their asses with the "Star" of the show in the end. Especially after realizing they kinda ruined their money-maker by destroying season 8 out of pure arrogance. And I don't know, but I'm gonna say House of the Dragon was not as successful as GoT, which was what they were hoping for.
@@leviandhisbae7375 that's what I feel as well. Hell if they had some of the book only characters like Val or Young Griff etc. It might have lessen the blow.
Why no chapters 😢
The kingsguards are a failure and shows us that the best knights are useless. They failed to protect the monarch. The kings guards should been abolished
most Targaryen rulers died natural/ accidental deaths so the KG arguably did its job. The only rulers to die by assassination/murder were Rheanyra, Aegon II, Daeron I and Aerys II. Of these only Aegon II actually had their Kingsguard present when they died and of course he was killed by him.
Maekar is the only Targaryen king to die in battle, strangely enough.
@@SantomPh to be honest: the Romans eventually replaced the Pretoria guards with Germans as bodyguards. It’s like the Eastern Romans made Varangian guards as bodyguards.
I think a Targaryens should consider getting foreign soldiers as bodyguards because the kings guards kinda are a fiasco
Hi whycreate was hoping you could settle a debate with me and my friend on which house is older the starks or the Targaryen im almost 100% its the starks due to having first men blood but i could be wrong!! thanks :D

It's obviously hypocritical to call Jaime the "worst" oathbreaker. However, I can see why he's deemed as such. He didn't just break every path he took. He also committed the worst possible crime in a kingdom when he killed "the mad king." Regencide has throughout history been the ultimate crime that demanded the ultimate punishment. The books may be fiction, but they're based on medieval England and Europe. It didn't matter how evil or hated the king was. A king was a king and anointed by God himself, so killing one was an act against God. Now, add on the fact Jamie took the vows of a Kingsguard and broke every sacred vow he took on top of killing the king, I can understand and even agree to a certain point with him being considered the worst oathbreaker of all time. ESPECIALLY since everybody knew of all his sins and broken vows. Don't get me wrong, I understand and agree with why Jaime killed the mad king, and he was obviously manipulated by Cersei. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that he did everything he has done.
“The ones in the back” what you mean by that 🤔
The thing is, the oath is to “father no children”. There’s nothing about no sex.
Does the king guard have to take a vow of celibacy? Because I checked the Kings guard oath, and all it said is that they should held no land, take no wife, and father no children.
that's what it implies, since nobles shouldn't be going round visiting brothels or having hookups with random women. We know that is not really the case, but they cannot be seen to be in a relationship with anyone. If even Tywin Lannister (a knighted man himself) can indulge in the odd excursion, pretty sure the KG do as well.
Someone like Barristan Selmy or Aemon the Dragonknight would take the vow to heart and dedicate themselves to practicing swordfighting and horse riding instead of indulging in the fleshy delights. Even Ser Loras Tyrell, the shiny Tyell flower lad who loves stags throws himself into the assault that eventually wins the crown Dragonstone, getting grave wounds in the process.
Then we have the likes of Jaime, Prince Lewyn and the aforementioned knight who had several wives.
one big gap is not in the literature- how did Daeron II's Kingsguard fare in the Blackfyre Rebellion? did they stay loyal? did they join Daemon Blackfyre? Were they Aegon IV's kingsguard?
Not sure what they were trying to do with Crispin but he literally breaks his oath and blames Rhayenera

Jamie was a fool for not telling the world his reasoning. It's literally free propaganda for the new regime to further legitimise itself and a way for Jamie to get his story out. A win-win.
