For the USB-C mod, you should put a 5.1k resistor between CC1 and GND and another 5.1k resistor between CC2 and GND, that way it will work with all USB-PD chargers

I personally just use a cable that has a Nintendo plug and a USB-A plug to charge. If I was going to do a USB-C mod, I’d do one that replaces the old port, rather than cutting the case up.

I got a 3DS Capture Card mod which also doubles as a USB C charging mod. It's amazing and if you can afford it, I'd recommend it. Both for the charging, and for the capture.

It is more than likely possible to put the QI Charging FULLY inside the case (As long as you mount the actual Charging Unit itself to the outer casing on the inner side) the difference between having it in and out are going to be very minimal and in terms of Looks, it will certainly look better.
This has been done. I saw a video of a guy who did it based on a Reddit post tutorial. I’m still trying to find someone online who will do it for me though cause I don’t trust myself
There are but those are a bit hard to install due two large factors. One it requires some advance soldering skills to pull off and two it's very easy to get the wrong kit since nintendo changed the board side connections with each version of the 3DS to prevent hard mods from being used to hack the system.
The numb change is easily my favorite mod for the New 3DS. Make playing with the C-stick way better! Watch out for getting second hand shell replacements. The 2 i got from Amazon had their Hinge housing snapped after a month.
The X1 nib is specifically a low-profile one. For replacement nubs you will probably find one that is too big and too tall. Just trying to spread the right one. It's also a super easy replacement/removal, just as he suggested. Just the screws to reveal the inner hardware and being careful when you flip it open.
Quick tip for others interested in doing the USB C mod at home, just replace the original charging port instead of drilling a separate hole (it will still require some case drilling to make the port slightly wider but its easier and looks better), also you can buy a version that does both display and charging and its just as easy installation wise.
Hopefully someone already mentioned this to you, but there are several mods where you order a simple PCB from a fabricator for less than $5 and it will replace the stock change port with USB-C. The soldering is just as simple, with the catch being that you obviously need to desolder the old port. But it will come out clean with no shell cutting required. There's a small panel gap you can 3D print a cover for, or just leave it open as it's not really noticable unless you are staring at it. I'd really really recommend that you look into this before you ruin another shell.
I don't know how dangerous could be for the system but you could get a rounded set of magnets and make a "mag-safe" for the wireless charging so it always aligns perfectly fine (or you could just make a DIY stand so you never miss it)
Picked up a great condition 3DS XL this week Already jailbroke it, as I did my PS3 after cleaning and re-pasting I plan on customising it a little bit, after I get the basics out of the way: clear protective shell, screen protector, and carry case Might do a nice shell-swap, matching buttons, and maybe even upgrade the screens to IPS

Gone are those days. If you're wanting HD gaming on the go, you have to go big. I mean, technically you could do something like a GBA SP / Galaxy Flip series, but I think it would get pretty costly.
The C-Stick mod on a N2DSXL can blend the top screen, especially if you have a screen protector. I replaced mine with a PSP stick some years ago, and over time it started to blend. There isn't enough space for a thicker stick on that console, but it looks like the other models are fine for that.
I made the exact same mistake with USB-C port lol. I also thought it would be a great place to fit it, but stylus won't go all the way anymore. I ended up replacing that part of the shell anyway (I kept everything else, because it's limited edition and OEM shell is far better quality), so new placement is basically the same as yours, right next to ZR button and it looks really nice. My breakout board is way smaller though (only 4 pins), but I still used some glue just to secure it. Many people replace proprietary port with Type-C, but I wanted to keep it, just in case. Also replaced C-stick with the one from Ali, looks the same and it's far more responsive. Also installed Type-C to DSi XL (next to 3.5mm jack, couldn't find a better place), Vita 1000 (a lot of space between main and left controller board) and Wii U gamepad (hated that thin cable and big power brick). Charging my phone and handhelds using same cable is huge, especially from power bank (via short USB-A to USB-C cable). Didn't need or want wireless or Type-C to Type-C charging. But you could also buy magsafe ring for easier alignment (I have it on my phone case and my powerbank is magsafe compatible). So yea, all my devices are USB-C and I LOVE it. Fairly easy, with exception of Vita 1000, which has very small pins. Nintendo consoles are noob-friendly to mod (just make sure you don't mess up positive and negative).
Bruh I got the new cstick in today and the difference is INSANE! It’s actually like a second left stick! Super comfortable, low profile, fits like a glove, very sensitive input, and easy to install. Undeniably a must do upgrade. Thanks for the tip!
Would it not be possible for someone to make a "Whatever the name of the 3DS charge port is to USB-C adapter" thing? Like, it plugs into the DS charge port, and then has a USB C port on top? That way you can use a USB-C charger without needing to mod the DS. Like how you can get USB to 3.5mm jack adapters. As for the C stick mod, I've been wanting to do that thing for years but I have a New 2DS XL and with the top screen being all glass I don't know if I'd wanna do that cause it would be pressing against it when closed.
A PSP joystick will also fit onto the C-stick nub perfectly. I'd imagine that those are significantly easier to find on eBay as well than ThinkPad nubs, but I just 3d printed one and stuck it on. Also, I'd heavily recommend Kapton tape for these kinds of mods. If you just haphazardly press a PCB into a place that isn't designed to hold it, like on the wireless charging mod shown here, you're extremely likely to create a short and break something. That would make anyone really sad.
So for the charging I use a charging dock (looks like a mini switch dock) where the 3DS goes upside down on it, this is what the metal pads left and right of the charging port is for, dont know if either of the 2DS have this as well but since there are MANY no names of the dock it would be the easiest solution of the charging dilemma...the circle pad pro thingy is nice tho^^
I think some type of screen upgrade would be amazing. Going back to the 3ds the screens look terrible. And not just in terms of resolution the image quality just doesn’t hold up like other older nintendo handhelds
You could make a custom 3D printed fixture for the wireless charger to position it correctly. I'm thinking something similar to the charging dock that came with the original 3DS

Also you don't need to wirelessly charge the device because it literally has a charging dock you just set it in and no need to modify anything. I made a video of adding Bluetooth and the same USBC charging mod too. Perfect fit. Never tried the wireless charging though since at that point why would I need a device to charge 3 different ways.
iFixIt recently put out a short 4 minute video about wireless charging and all of the downsides it comes with. I personally wouldn't want the extra heat from the ineffeicent charging lowering the lifespan of my 3DS's battery in the long run. I got a replacemnet battery for my "new" 3DS XL just incase years down the line when the battery eventually goes bad, but I don't want to make that process any faster. If someone did really want wireless charging, I wonder if it would be possible to put a magsafe wireless charger in the 3DS (no idea what magnets would do to the 3DS and it's displays)
There's a USB C board that I installed recently and replaces the old port, and apparently it already supports USB-PD. You can also get high capacity batteries. Do you have a link for getting those Cstick nubs? My Cstick is giving me trouble and that seems like a perfect fix.
you should get a capture card, I've got a version on my DS Lite that lets me output directly to a monitor without needing a secondary program, though you will need a custom software update. I'm not sure if the 3ds can do it, but I'm 100% sure there's a capture card similar to Loopy.
I got an idea, but this is probably just for the old 3DS: modifying the cradle to get wireless charging. The design of it destroys the problem of aligning the console completely... I suppose lol

I have a Nintendo 2DS XL, hopefully the internals remain the same since I do slightly worry about the changes of internals due to different positions of game card slots, microSD, stylus, etc.

You should have tried wireless magnetic charging instead of just regular wireless charging so that way you don't really have to be exact with how you place it down like the iPhone it would just magnetically stick on
Would love to do the wireless charging mod, but I lack the tools and knowledge of soldering anything. I know it was mentioned being a beginner level project though. Might be something I look into for the future. My charge port for my N3DSXL appears bent. All 3 of my systems appeared to be this way, so my only workable option seems to be those 3DS charge docks. Just plugging in with a cable doesn't seem to work. No idea how this happened on all 3 units as I do take really good care of my systems.

wireless charging i wouldn't be too interested in myself, mainly because I don't have any wireless charges and going out of my way to get one when I don't have anything else to wirelessly charge wouldn't make much sense. The usb-c mod i might try but really dont have to since i do have 2 3ds chargers laying around and it isn't that large of a footprint to just throw it in the bag. hrm, idk.

If you know anyone else with the same DS as you with a working battery, you might ask if you can test their battery in your DS to see if it charges. Batteries are relatively cheap & easy fixes!
It’s been said many times, over and over, but I will still say it. The 3DS XL was an incredible handheld console !!! I cannot stress that anymore. When I heard they stopped online, I went and got 5 of them. 1 I want to upgrade.
Can't find any with actual upgrades like putting switch parts on or like changing the resolution or the contrast and colors. Or ordering parts online to upgrade it with like a ryzen cpu with integrated graphics

The Lenovo nub mod is pretty cool, but I'm curious if it effects the durability of the c stick though. The original nub seems to tilt that rod, whereas this nub looks like it slides around on top of the stick, potentially bending it?
I have a New 3DS Sun & Moon edition. I already softmod it last week, but I think I'll pass hardware mods, I already bought a AyaNeo Flip DS to play DS/3DS and Wii U and if I keep the 3DS it will be for collection propose only. But the wireless pad should be a great ideam usb-c too, but it seems not worth the work yet
Y not use a charger that charges through the gold inserts around the charger input. I have been doing it that was so I don’t have to plug anything in anymore.
The wireless charging idea intrigues me. Let us know how long it takes for a full charge. I'm interested in knowing if it's worth my time. Might also look into the nub replacement. That thing is one of the design decisions Nintendo made that annoyed me, given how expensive the New 3DS XL was when I originally bought it.

Not getting that now a days. I say get the Og launch 3ds and mod it or just get a gba sp with flash card. I have a Gba Micro with flash personally.

I use a PSP analog for my C-stick. I'll try a thinkpad knub, but I've been comfortable with it so far

Wireless charging is fine in a pinch, but I very rarely use it as it's incredibly slow, inefficient, and heats up the device.

I made a video of adding Bluetooth and the same USBC charging mod too. Perfect fit. Never tried the wireless charging though since at that point why would I need a device to charge 3 different ways.

iFixIt recently put out a short 4 minute video about wireless charging and all of the downsides it comes with. I personally wouldn't want the extra heat from the ineffeicent charging lowering the lifespan of my 3DS's battery in the long run. I got a replacemnet battery for my "new" 3DS XL just incase years down the line when the battery eventually goes bad, but I don't want to make that process any faster. If someone did really want wireless charging, I wonder if it would be possible to put a magsafe wireless charger in the 3DS (no idea what magnets would do to the 3DS and it's displays)

You can also get high capacity batteries. Do you have a link for getting those Cstick nubs? My Cstick is giving me trouble and that seems like a perfect fix.

i used the psp analog stck cap on my new 3ds, i just superglued into place and is great
you should get a capture card, I've got a version on my DS Lite that lets me output directly to a monitor without needing a secondary program, though you will need a custom software update. I'm not sure if the 3ds can do it, but I'm 100% sure there's a capture card similar to Loopy.
Use a phone case sticker for Apples MagSafe charger so avoid the wrong positions on the pad
Play my 2ds xl alot to this day
The nub mod I used a PSP analog nub which made it so much easier to navigate

I got an idea, but this is probably just for the old 3DS: modifying the cradle to get wireless charging. The design of it destroys the problem of aligning the console completely... I suppose lol

I have a Nintendo 2DS XL, hopefully the internals remain the same since I do slightly worry about the changes of internals due to different positions of game card slots, microSD, stylus, etc.

You should have tried wireless magnetic charging instead of just regular wireless charging so that way you don't really have to be exact with how you place it down like the iPhone it would just magnetically stick on

Would love to do the wireless charging mod, but I lack the tools and knowledge of soldering anything. I know it was mentioned being a beginner level project though. Might be something I look into for the future.
My charge port for my N3DSXL appears bent. All 3 of my systems appeared to be this way, so my only workable option seems to be those 3DS charge docks. Just plugging in with a cable doesn't seem to work. No idea how this happened on all 3 units as I do take really good care of my systems.

You should try to implement a MagSafe like charging system so it magnetically aligns itself and locks in place.
wireless charging i wouldn't be too interested in myself, mainly because I don't have any wireless charges and going out of my way to get one when I don't have anything else to wirelessly charge wouldn't make much sense. The usb-c mod i might try but really dont have to since i do have 2 3ds chargers laying around and it isn't that large of a footprint to just throw it in the bag. hrm, idk.

If you know anyone else with the same DS as you with a working battery, you might ask if you can test their battery in your DS to see if it charges. Batteries are relatively cheap & easy fixes!
It’s been said many times, over and over, but I will still say it. The 3DS XL was an incredible handheld console !!! I cannot stress that anymore. When I heard they stopped online, I went and got 5 of them. 1 I want to upgrade.
Is it not possible to replace the 3DS charge port with a USB C port instead of having to mess around with another spot on the board?
Can't find any with actual upgrades like putting switch parts on or like changing the resolution or the contrast and colors. Or ordering parts online to upgrade it with like a ryzen cpu with integrated graphics

I thought USB C was already on the devices themselves. I recently bought one but I don't know if I would feel confident in doing hardware modding. I'll probably just get a usb a to 3DS charger.
The Lenovo nub mod is pretty cool, but I'm curious if it effects the durability of the c stick though. The original nub seems to tilt that rod, whereas this nub looks like it slides around on top of the stick, potentially bending it?
Man, I am really tempted to purchase a New 3DS LL for some 3DS retro emulation but still not so sure.
I have a New 3DS Sun & Moon edition. I already softmod it last week, but I think I'll pass hardware mods, I already bought a AyaNeo Flip DS to play DS/3DS and Wii U and if I keep the 3DS it will be for collection propose only. But the wireless pad should be a great ideam usb-c too, but it seems not worth the work yet

The wireless charging idea intrigues me. Let us know how long it takes for a full charge. I'm interested in knowing if it's worth my time. Might also look into the nub replacement. That thing is one of the design decisions Nintendo made that annoyed me, given how expensive the New 3DS XL was when I originally bought it.
3ds is my fav handheld. I def want to mod a 2ds xl I have in box.
