      I loved them for years. I quit last year when all my packages were being lost by the post office. when I switched to shampoo I could get in a store I realized there were so many just as good at a fraction of the cost.

      I bought some shampoo & conditioner for my daughters, for years, bc nothing else I tried worked on their tangles. I got samples to patch test and try out first. But, then, I got them keratin treatments and they aged out of the "I refuse to brush my hair phase" so I cancelled my membership. It was very pricey. I cannot use most of what they make bc I am extremely sensitive to citrus in skin/hair products; found out the hard way when I got chemical burns from a Freeman face mask. I always patch test everything now. I had a bad reaction to the rejuvenique oil so I only really used the rejuvabeads and other styling products which, in the end, weren't special apart from their high price. I have had better luck with salon shampoo & conditioner & natural oils from Amazon. Wallet is happier too.

      There are a few that I don't think are exploitative (like Thirty One) and that people will sometimes join purely for discounts and don't have onerous minimum sales requirements or whatever, but 99% of MLMs are awful. (I have never sold from any MLM btw and I have no personal stake in them, I just have known several people who have sold Thirty One and other MLMs, including my mom, so I've seen the ugly side of many of them but that specific one didn't have the same terrible financial outcomes).

    I was in an MLM (not Monat) for 6.5 years and I genuinely thought they cared about me as a person. I struggle with major depression and whenever I’d have a really bad episode, I never had any friends to talk to (since I wasn’t selling). As soon as I felt better and had some volume or posted about the company, my “friends” would pop back up.
    I had one of the worst episodes I’ve ever had in my life this past Dec-Mar, was in a really bad depression fog and when my mind cleared up a bit, I realized the only people who checked on me the entire 4 months of my episode were my parents.
    Glad I’ve realized and now I’m rebuilding my life

    • @specialj67
      @specialj67 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I agree, they are a scourge. Unfortunately in the U.S., it’s legal for them to spend ungodly amounts of money lobbying members of Congress to fight any potential legislation that might limit or prohibit their business models. And their lobbying has also, unfortunately, pretty successfully kept the Federal Trade Commission from effectively investigating or fining them for their scummy tactics. And if my memory is correct, there’s was a court case against (sc)Amway wherein somehow they emerged victorious because somehow their business model wasn’t ruled to be an illegal pyramid scheme?! It’s wildly depressing learning about the history of these god-awful companies.

    • @joannablack
      @joannablack 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@jojipalpopijal1797 Pyramid schemes put all the monetary risk on the bottom of the pyramid, the people making direct sales. One of the biggest issues is they make their representatives buy their own stock of items, and don't assign sales regions, therefore pitting people against each other. A more traditional business model puts the risk on the top of the pyramid. Owners and investors would be responsible for paying for and maintaining their physical stock as well as conducting advertising and marketing. In the end, pyramid schemes make money simply by recruiting more people, not by selling their products.

My mom has coarse and wavy/curly hair and she bought this (without telling me about it even through I was in a cosmetology apprenticeship at the time) and it turned her hair brittle and PIN STRAIGHT before causing lesions on her scalp and causing her hair to fall out in clumps. It was so brittle that hair broke off at the stress point the minute she would twist, tie, or bend it. She ended up with a temporary alopecia on her crown and around the hairline. When she finally told me what she was using, her “distributer” didn’t respond to her request until the day after the return window was closed.

    I hate it when people try to excuse companies like this (even when it isn't MLM) because they're vegan and cruelty free. When you are scamming people, exploiting them and encouraging this deceitful behavior, it means jack shit whether or not it is vegan or cruelty free. I literally do not care and do not give any merit to that side at that point, just like how it means nothing to me if someone is puppy lover or adoring catmom
    when they do not bat an eye about cheating and scamming people.

    MLMs need to stop. They are predatory. The only way they should be able to operate is if someone is explicitly told that 1% of the people who go into this business will succeed and the rest will fall into financial ruin and starve.
    MLMs are predatory. If you have no choice but to sell to friends and family, you really should reconsider your business. The best way to put an end to MLMs forever is to spread the word about how these "businesses" operate.
    I'm really happy to see this video and consider content like this a public service announcement. People need ro know.

    So most of the people who get pulled into MLMs are tired of working shitty, terrible service industry jobs so they fall into the allure of owning your own business or having a sense of community they desperately lack. It’s so exploitative and disgusting.

Literally the reps only make money by recruiting others. Monat, YL, and Arbonne are shifting their tactics from “you can work from home” to “you can be influencer when you join our MLM” A lot of celebrities, especially Latino celebrities have jumped on the bandwagon with Monat. While TH-cam moms have gone the YL, Seint or Arbonne route. I for one, speak about how predatory they are (specifically the Latino celebrities that are with Monat) and the products have BASIC AF INGREDIENTS! Their products aren’t worth price nor is it worth joining. I would like to clear some very important misinformation around mlm businesses. First of all, the one mentioned in this video is what you call a ponzi scheme. There is quite literally no basis to the business itself other than lies, false advertising, and only the top people in the pyramid earning the money. In relation to this, NOT ALL MLMs are like this. Even though you may have found lots of these "scammy" mlms, you should educate yourself and realise that many of these ponzi schemes disguise themselves as mlms.
      An example of a true reliable MLM is the one my parents work for for 20+ years that sells actually good products. They had to constantly tell people to differentiate between mlms and business scams(mostly ponzi schemes). A good way to find this out reliably is to know how long and how good the business has run over the years.
      Fake mlms would usually be gone in a few years as they cannot sustain themselves (as they dont even have a basis to their business other than lies and products that are bad) and the top leaders in the pyramid will run away after they get their fair share of money. They won't be able to last for more than a few years.
      Actual mlms like tupperware and Amway on the other hand would be able to last for years and actually sell stuff that people buy regularly.
      Sorry for the long comment, just really wanted to get this out.

One of the first requirements is posting a photo of you “smiling” on social media talking about “how excited you are for the new experience you’re about to take on” there was no minimum sale required unless you wanted to go on their “free trips” which obviously aren’t free lol but I knew a lot of people that signed up for the big “employee discount” on the products. However the products are already way overpriced priced. They gave me some products to try out and it made my scalp hurt and my hair fall out, I had hair down to my butt and I was pissed! It definitely was an interesting experience I got a full refund probably because they didn’t want to be sued…but I had to fight so hard to get my money the lady I talked to was absolutely horrible. Worst customer service ever. Overall I only tried to make one sale and it made me soooo uncomfortable that I “quit” the next morning

    Wow, okay, so I was about to buy Monat last night but got an error when paying. Now I will not try again… Thank God for you! ❤❤❤

    I was a victim of this scam and I have pictures to prove that my hair fell out in handfuls until about 7 months later after continuing to listen to these ppl tell me I was detoxing I was DONE I found later that there is red clover in alot of there hair products which can be devastating to your hormones and can cause MAJOR hair loss. Anyway I stopped using Monat and completely quit the company shortly after going to a major convention in DC in 2018 this company is a joke and it is 2021 and my hair is still not back to normal I don't know that it will ever be back to normal after such a devastating hair loss experience due to Monat! I do know why they were pounded with lawsuits!

So I keep telling her im not interested!! 😤 Thank you for this video! 😘 This is exactly what I needed to know to continue to firmly state that im happy with The Ordinary brand skincare line.. and even though its cheap, it made my skin better and im sticking to it! By the way I heard about the The Ordinary brand from you too! You’re awesome! Love your videos!!❤️💋💋💋

    I’ve been waiting for a large public figure to talk about monat!!! I think everyone is too nervous to tackle this
    I hate hearing the “I’m my own bossss”‘when they clearly are resellers . it’s annoying.

      Be sure not to go to the store and buy anything other than the generic brands then. All places are resellers. Grocery stores, retail shops, etc. In network marketing you are your own boss! If you aren't getting a check monthly and not asking someone for time off...You are your own boss.

    I usually can’t sit to watch longer videos but this was fantastic and incredibly helpful! There have been so many Monat Babes popping up on my IG feed and it’s piqued my interest as a business student because they are structured a bit different than older MLMs. Plus their products are not horrible as you said but not for $100+ more like $20. I was approached by one of these monat babes and she was so aggressive and manipulative and would not let up. I told her repeatedly that I’m not interested and it escalated really quickly

    THANK YOU FOR THIS. Monat always rubbed me the wrong way. So many of my friends joined and when I’d ask them about ingredient lists or if they had fragrance they couldn’t answer. They would always talk about the products and they really had no idea what they were talking about.

    There’s little berry seeds in the berry refine scrub though so is it really better than walnut shells??😬😬

    Thank you so much for doing this video. I was in Monat since a few months, spent a lot of $$$ on the products and the shampoo didn’t do much to hydrate my hairs. In fact, it removes the color i put on them. For skincare, I have rosacea and let me tell you how the berryscrub HURTS my face. I had doubts about this compagny and you confirm all those doubts in your video. I really like your videos cuz they are instructives. Plz continue to warn us about compagnies that are trying to exploit people so we become more aware and hopefully stop them by not becoming a member 🙏😊
