Rather than saving up for the Natty, I believe what you’re seeing is simply supply and demand. There is certainly no shortage of these1960s cards, and nothing rare about them. Most people are struggling just to pay their bills in this inflationary economy. That means less money for cards that can easily be acquired at anytime in the future.
Gave a video like. Always enjoy these. I have been buying cards leading up to the National even though it takes away from funds to take to the National. No regrets. Happy with every purchase.
Great video and thanks for compiling these. As someone who is unable to attend the National, I'm grateful to those who are saving their money to attend. Picked up some great bargains in recent weeks, including a Topps 1960 Gil Hodges in a PSA 5 for $15.50....less than the cost of grading!
I just watched your opening minutes of this video. As someone who has consistently bought before, during, and after The National, I actually think prices go up. TH-camrs hype up the National and people (in general) follow the hobby very closely during late July, whether they are actually attending or not. Just my opinion, big fan of your videos!
Just got back from a card show, 1935 Jim bottomly for 25.00 Roberts,1952 Bowman 15.00 52 Bowman B Brown 7.00, 57 Zimmer 10.00 60 adcock 2.00 56 klug, 5.00 all star fox 4.00,
This is the Monday after The National and I’m catching up on some of your videos. I tried Ebay auctions for cards such as 49 Bowman baseball (Campanella, Ashburn), many 33 Goudeys, 56 Topps Jackie Robinson, 53 Topps Paige, 67 Topps Seaver, etc. All these auctions were closing during The National and I found very, very competitive bidding with sale prices at or above comps. I struck out on all that I bid on. I guess the word got out about trying to win auctions during The National and all those who didn’t attend were all trying to win Ebay auctions driving winning prices up. It was a nice idea, but apparently the word got out and I didn’t find bargains on the cards I bid on. Oh well, we’ll get ‘em next year. Oh by the way congrats on getting the Banks rookie. Great card!
Interesting that some of the auctions picked up. Earlier in the month, it seems like cards were going cheap. Maybe all the National videos had all the people at home inspired to buy some cards!!
Incredible deals! Obviously there are pros and cons with buying online versus at a show. However, if you have been around for a good amount of time and can read between the lines, buying online is the way to go.
@@vintagecollector5340 i hate when my comment seems to get lost, and I end up sending it twice. 😩👍🤪 Staying ahead of the collecting trends is a fun part of the game as a compiler, collector… I am still waiting for some of my misfit collections to become interesting to the masses… probably not gonna happen on some stuff… yard sale here I come! 😎
Great video! Not the focus of your video but I noticed that even some of the PSA 9's were a little off centered. Particularly with PSA you can't count on great centering regardless of the grade. Someone said that many of the higher graded cards that people are selling are the ones that aren't well centered. Interesting thought.
There are some fine deals out there, I wouldn't say best time ever, but it, will be interesting to see, however what the National will entail. As a lot of vendors are, probably looking to move higher end cards. I am going to assume the lower end cards will remain affordable, and the ''moon shots'' will still be ''moon shots'' or slightly less depending on how much room (also how much they put into the card) which then, could play a role when it comes to negotiating. We will find out. @12:04 Being an Orioles fan does make the hobby fun. For me. Mine is in, a higher grade, though. You ask a good question. A lot of these inexpensive cards, the grading, hasn't added much value. It's possible some of these collectors thought they would have received something other than it did. Am not entirely sure. Just speculating. But really good video. Hope you enjoy the weekend.
As a political adviser once said to President Clinton “ Its the economy stupid “. I’m not calling anyone stupid. However, as much as we are looking forward to the National, I’m thinking the final consensus from dealers will be negative as far as sales. I don’t think they will do as well as in the past due to economic problems. It may be an opportunity for buyers or a stalemate on prices dealers need to get to support their investment attending the National. Its obviously a falling market at the time. It’s hard to say which way it will go. Regardless, the overall view is a buying opportunity for collectors. If supply out weighs demand prices will drop. An interesting question will be. Will a dealer take a loss on a card to not take a loss of attending the show ? Just a few thoughts, stay focused on what you want your collection to be long term. Concentrate on rare cards to add, as the more common base cards will always be there. Try not to buy anything you may see at a local card show. This is your chance to add something you don’t typically see. And good luck to all !
My Opinion: Excluding HOF rookie cards, you will always be able to find vintage auction bargains for two reasons: #1) A massive increase in the population of vintage slabs (especially mid to lower-grade) since the COVID boom; #2) There are a lot of vintage collectors who only collect raw cards. National, or no National, you should be able to produce this video again and again in the future as the production of mid to lower-graded vintage slabs greatly exceeds the number of graded vintage buyers.
At the other end of these auctions are sellers banging their heads against their desks. Ironically, I'm sure some of them expected to cash in on a Mays bidding frenzy after his death. Not so much. But these sellers had ample opportunity to know about auction performances in recent months. I shouldn't talk. I consigned some cards to Greg Morris and shudder to contemplate this weekend's results. Maybe it's a good time for the seller side of me to take a break and watch the market for awhile, snapping up auction bargains like these.
I don't know where these people find these deals. I can never find them when I go to eBay. All I see are BINs priced at 40-100% over what these people say they buy these cards for.
This is the time… Lots of boomers tailing off, fewer gen Xers than boomers == prices go down. What happens when Millennials hit their 40s and 50s? With many more of them than gen Xers, do prices boom again when they arrive at their peak earning years and their risk tolerance for modern goes down?
I was just telling my only card collecting buddy the other day that the next few weeks are a great opportunity to buy vintage because of The National. I’m not going to The National, but I’ll be looking for some good deals in eBay auctions.
The hobby has been turned upside down everyone wants10’s good luck they will pay 20 g’s for a new card no problem but those folks are hurting now cant sell those new cards for 1/5 of the price imho it usto be buy rc for 50 cents or a buck and watch the players play
Don’t buy now, prices will continue to drop. The lower grade examples will continue to be very affordable. It’s almost Junk Slab era for vintage. People need to remember these cards ARE NOT rare, there are literally 1000s of these cards available. Collector / Investment grade cards will continue to be the sweat spot for collectors / investors.
FACTS. There are levels to this game. Low grade vintage will be the sweet spot for collectors on a budget. Just owning the card no matter the grade beats not owning it all everyday and twice on Sunday
I buy vintage cards raw, amazing cards can be had for a fraction of graded costs.
Good point. As long as there are no issues, it's much more affordable.

You might be right.
So many great looking cards in SGC 4-5. My sweet spot for collecting. I could not believe those prices.
Agree. Some great prices for sure.
Gave a video like. Always enjoy these. I have been buying cards leading up to the National even though it takes away from funds to take to the National. No regrets. Happy with every purchase.
Thanks so much.
Its ALWAYS the perfect time to buy, if the price is right.
Hard to argue with that.

That was what I did last year!! It can create some great deals.

Getting a Topps Now card of a famous moment you were at -can't beat that! Sweet Mantle/Banks photo.
I totally agree. Great gifts!!
Yeah prices are drifting a little lower, but the National impact is pretty significant.
I agree.
Hi Graig. Wow there are a lot of great cards and prices in that list. Thanks for sharing my friend, see you soon pal.
Friday night will be a blast!! Can't wait to hang out.
Sure seems that way. That '64 Mays was a standout deal, and the Palmer too. Great time to start a slabbed HOF collection.
I completely agree. Some incredible deals out there right now of some already slabs all timers.
I won a few auctions recently that I didn't think I was going to win. your theory is a good one! will have to keep this in mind!
Things are selling super cheap right now. No doubt. Great buys!!
I think you are right , saving for the National. Something always came up on Ebay for a good price when I was at the National and I would buy.
Yeah....same here!!
Incredible deals! Obviously there are pros and cons with buying online versus at a show. However, if you have been around for a good amount of time and can read between the lines, buying online is the way to go.
Well said.
I’ve had a hard time saving for the National, because I keep find smoking deals on vintage.
Me too!!
Great video Graig. I love when you do these videos. This getting me excited to spend all of my money at the National!
Thanks Jason. Looking forward to hanging out.
Prices at the Heritage auction last night were very strong for high grade. Several records or near records set.
High grade stuff usually isn't affected as much. No doubt.
Thanks for putting this together, Graig. I always enjoy it. I hope these deals carry forward to the National!
Me too!!
It is always the perfect time to buy vintage cards
Good point.
The paradox holds true: easy to buy, hard to sell. I liked that you featured some high-value cars at the end
I've been featuring 10 high end cards for the last few months.
1988 was a great time for me, to buy vintage football and Basketball cards! 😅
Before any mainstream price guide! 👍
And that, my friends, is how its done.

Best time of the year in many cases is right before the National.
I was hoping to see my purchase on your list, a 1959 Topps Duke Snider SGC 3.5 for 23.50 perfectly centered.
That's a great deal. Congrats.

The economy 100% is a major factor in the whole disposable income market.
Those examples of sales prices makes me realize why none of the BIN's I have on ebay are selling. Time to buy not to sell.
Ya Mike, that stuff is crazy cheap. Hard to compete with that on a BIN on eBay right now for sure
Yep. Buy when others are selling and sell when they're buying.
The Willis Reed stood out to me - I may have pulled the trigger had I seen that one.
It's crazy how cheap it went. Right?

Supply is a hug factor. No doubt about it.
I’ve been watching vintage prices dipping over the last several months and I’m dying to jump in, but I do have concerns with the economy.

Definitely some good values out there! Enjoyed the episode!!
Thanks Darren. I look forward to hanging out soon!!
How can wax be so high for early 80’s and psa 9’s sell for 69.00 well some 83 topps Qwynn are higher but yes i think singles are underpriced
I wonder that myself.
Graig, my analogy brother, isn’t saving for the national very much like trying to lose weight before a cruise?! 😂👍
It's EXACTLY like that!! LOL.
Those are all being bid on. So might be the final price could end up higher
Those are final prices.
Man, this stuff just keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. Some of those are really nice cards, too. 😮
Also, you really have to watch out for those ‘burrowing’ hurricanes. They are the most dangerous for sure lol
Yeah. It's starting to get crazy.
A lot of great deals in June.
Agreed.
I hope prices keep coming down. Yay
If they do, I'll be able to buy more.
Great deals
