    Ted's prediction of what would happen if Bill went to get his daughter was 100% correct - she was dead and Bill died too. One of the jobs of the "b@stard" character in a show is to say the things the others are too polite or in too much denial to say.

  • @RobertDPore
    @RobertDPore หลายเดือนก่อน +50

    It's interesting to note that this is the first song I think where we catch the aliens in a lie - "you're right about Deb, she's a hard-core stoner" is at odds with the earlier scene where Deb protects Alice from peer pressure by the "smoke club." This is very much an emotional manipulation song, and I'm not so sure that the aliens wouldn't be above pretending to still have bits of the person's original self still inside to manipulate people better.
    Also, I think Paul and Bill leaving is where they put the act break when they were doing the show, but it's not declared outright like in Black Friday. Nerdy Prudes also hides it's act break, though I think it'll be little easier to sense where it was when you watch it.

    • @nutelasaur9453
      @nutelasaur9453 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      I also saw a comment, i think on the musical itself, that said the opening line to Alice's entrance is manipulation too. "It's all your fault. That's the last thought I had before *they* broke down the door." But on the phone call, it seems to be a decent inference that Alice may be blaming herself for the situation ("no, don't you say that... everything is going to be fine"), and the hivemind is twisting the vague statement to hurt Bill.

    I love all the little jokes about musicals like the Moana "audition" that the professor puts them through, and the 3 zombies 20:43 having to pause to get their speech synchronized. I heard somewhere that bit was from rehearsals where Lauren, Jaime Lyn and Mariah were having trouble getting through the synchronized dialog, so the director just decided to incorporate it into the show.

Like, he ends up right, but he just lost charlotte, who we saw he actually did care for ("you could upgrade [...] but you refuse to be happy" was something he meant and he left her hurt) and also other context for this character that makes it pretty clear he's kind of projecting his own grief onto Bill.

If you haven’t been told yet, StaKid actually offers licensing on some of their musicals on their website! They have even made school-friendly versions so younger people have a chance of performing the shows too. xD

    I love Ted as a character. He's so complex. Yes he's an asshole, but he's an asshole with a heart. That whole scene, Ted wasn't being mean to Bill. He was trying to save Bill's life because, deep down, he considers Bill his friend and cares about him. I love that Ted is the practical one of the group and that he knew that Bill was emotionally compromised so he tried to be the voice of reason, but nobody actually listened to him because he's such an asshole.
    Also, I love that Bill is 100% correct when he says, "I'm the reason they trapped her. It's my fault." However, he is incorrect about WHY it's his fault. It's not Bill's fault because he was trying to keep Alice apart from Deb. It's Bill's fault because he's such a good Father that Alice loves him more than her Mother. Alice got off the bus, not to be with Deb, but to be with Bill. She got off the bus because she didn't want to go back to Clivesdale. She wanted to stay in Hatchetfield and live with Bill. Which Pokey reveals to Bill during the song in an effort to manipulate him. She only went to Deb first because she wanted to surprise Bill later with the fact that she chose him over her Mother. Basically, she needed something to do while waiting for Bill to get off work. So she went to go hang with Deb. Also, I assume Deb knew what Alice was planning and agreed to spend the day with her so I don't think Deb got a "Surprise Alice" at her doorstep.
    Oh and Fun Fact: Mariah was 19 years old when they performed this show. So she was, actually, age accurate to the character of Alice.
