    In order to retain the factory settings/features and reverse camera in the UPPER screen you need to install the Axxess ASWC-1 module or else the upper screen will be black/blank after you install your aftermarket radio.

    • @lazkycs
      @lazkycs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My screen is not black. I have the same top screen as you do. And that’s not the factory features. Im trying to get my mpg screen on. But it turns out you have to split the old stereo with the new one to get what I want

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      HeyEddie Yes, I did NOT replace the upper dash screen it’s the factory screen with aftermarket software. The reason why my upper dash shows a different display home screen and menu options is because of the ASWC-1 module, which is suppose to help retain some of the OEM settings (door locks, lights, Honda Sense etc...). It’s a bad design by Honda because in the base models they placed the radio and car control right where Kenwood unit. This setup is a little expensive, but it’s still cheaper than the factory stereo/navigation upgrade that doesn’t even come with Apple Carplay. My headunit can also play DVDs so I can watch movies too.

      @@Jose-ew6hj you need the metra harness and module to wire the aftermarket stereo and to display the features shown in the top screen. Back up camera doesn't work if you have a 6speed tranny FYI. Metra kit also has a new dash in order to mount the aftermarket sterek

    Niclacoste question I just install the Axxess c-1 must things are working other than the phone buttons on the steering wheel and, volume down is not working is there anything you could let me know regarding this issue or point me in the right direction.

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      J T Before installing the Axxess module you should download the Axxess software on their site to update the firmware and select your radio type. I had the same issue in the beginning until I downloaded their software, which has a drop down menu of radio manufacturers. You select your car model and radio brand and load it into the Axxess module so when you plug it into your car it recognizes the preset settings to install. I highly recommend going on the Axxess website because they have detailed information regarding the installation process.

      Niclacoste it’s not I just like that it’s easier from the steering wheel and that it all works as advertised. More annoying than anything.

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      zeeshan siddiqui It’s because the steering wheel control is integrated with the factory bluetooth. Honda did a poor job designing the stereo for the Honda Accord because most vehicles don’t require the Axxess module since they don’t incorporate both the car settings and radio into one control unit. The upper dash screen made this install a little more complicated.

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrCastlepark06 You can install any head unit of your choice but because Honda designed the original factory base radio to control certain car settings/functions you need the Axxess module in order to use the upper dash screen. This is important especially if your car has Honda Sensing cameras. Also, you’ll be able to retain the backup camera with the module. However, you can hook up an additional camera to the front of the car if you want because certain head units have additional camera inputs so you can view both the front and rear.

    Does the screen at the top have a separate computer? I thought the factory radio controlled it.

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      obogle Yes, the factory radio does control the upper screen when it’s plugged in, but since you’re installing an aftermarket head unit you don’t utilize all the oem connections. Therefore, you no longer have access to the upper screen because there’s no ports for it on the aftermarket one. That is why you have to also install an Axxess module. Blame Honda for this poor design haha.

I priced out installing a unit in my Accord and it's much more expensive to buy a standalone dash kit and a well featured double din head unit separately. Also, the Kenwood head unit have RCA outputs for the subwoofer, which I connected a powered subwoofer (built in amp) that fits underneath the driver’s seat. Yg Bodybuilder Sorry for the confusion. I was trying to say that even though I upgraded my base 4-speaker audio system it sounds better than the premium 6-speaker system that Honda offers (you can add 2 tweeters to the front by tapping into the door speakers and buying the tweeter cover that Honda sells). With an aftermarket headunit you lose the voice command feature on the steering wheel (tbh I never use it, but you get Siri with Apple Carplay) and you lose the factory bluetooth (doesn’t really matter bc the aftermarket headunit has bluetooth so you’re just switching bluetooth). Bluetooth on the aftermarket headunit allows music playback and voice calls.

      J. Panama Yes you will lose the gas info screen if you’re installing an aftermarket radio, but retain backup camera. I had the base audio system (4 speaker without the infotainment touch screen) so I had to remove the oem unit completely and replace with the Metra dash kit in order to mount the Kenwood head unit. So no I didn’t bury or hide the original head unit bc it had to be completely removed. However, you have to transfer the oem air vents and emergency blinker switch into the new dash kit, which is very easy bc they’re just held by philip screws.

    • @niclacoste

      You lose the factory voice controls, but retain the backup camera. Depending on which aftermarket radio you go with you should be able to add an additional front/backup camera and use the voice features that’s included with your new radio.

      MaGboor Y You will need to buy the Axxess module in order to use the steering wheel controls otherwise the upper infotainment screen will be blank and you won’t be able to change certain car functions.

      Omran El-Khatib You need to purchase the Axxess module and backup camera still work using the cable adapters provided in the kit. You can also add an additional camera to the unit but need to purchase an aftermarket camera.

    Quick question, for your back up camera to work on the after market radio, did you have to buy a harness adaptor for the camera or did it come with the radio harness? Thanks.

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Edward Morado Most backup cameras comes with one power wire and a yellow video wire that connects to the female camera input on your headunit. If you look at pics of the back of your headunit online you’ll see the camera input cable.

      Niclacoste what about the Honda factory camera? I have the same car as you.

    • @niclacoste
      @niclacoste  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Edward Morado The factory camera will still display on the top screen using the adapter harness that usually comes with most aftermarket radios. I purchased everything on Crutchfield and paid about $25 extra to have them crimp the wires for the adapters (worth it and saves you a lot of time). To answer your question, there are some additional adapters you’ll need to buy that isn’t included in the radio like the antenna and steering wheel module. With the aftermarket headunit you’re able to connect one additional external camera to the system, which can be either a dash cam, 2nd backup cam or front bumper cam. If you go on Crutchfield and enter your car info it’ll show all the items you need to install and then you can decide where you want to buy it for the best price.

      @d_purp8960 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Niclacoste ahh okay. That was my biggest worry, having to buy an additional harness for the factory camera and not knowing if I needed it or if the after market radio I have already has the wire for it. I have the antenna, radio, and steering wheel harnesses. Thanks a lot for replying back. Much appreciated ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

    I found out that the upper screen won’t work to its factory settings if you have a Sport model. The kit from crutchfield won’t work on it. So I went to an audio installer and they said they’d basically put the factors stereo behind your aftermarket stereo (you wouldn’t see it) so it retains factory settings as well as aftermarket radio.

    • @DapimpBDSD

      I might end up doing this also, I love my new Alpine but the loss of the back up camera (due to having a manual tranny) doesn't sit well with me. Honestly for the aftermarket stereo, all I need is the speaker wires and the power antenna

      @@AlexBenavides84 No, I didn’t have to remove the factory mic and you don’t have to remove it. The Kenwood comes with a mic (3.5mm headphone jack connector) that plugs into the back of the Kenwood unit. The cable is about 6 feet so you have plenty to route it to a desire location.

      Niclacoste this is a great video. I have a 2014 Accord Sport with a really nice system in it. I’ve been waiting for a solution like this to finally be available so I can get rid of the factory radio and line output converter. I’m confident I can install the Kenwood unit and control module myself. Is there a way for you to share the manual or can it be downloaded? I’ll add a link to the install of my system.
