    People often miss out the drawbacks: punishing heat and humidity in the summer, traffic jams, terrible roads, resentful locals, over-development ruining the towns and coastline, pollution, low wages, animal cruelty often tolerated, lots of red tape hassle for TCNs.... for starters!

    • @OyisCorner
      @OyisCorner  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@AnnabelleJARankin Oh yes, I did a previous video on that already and covered most of these. This video was to provide a balanced perspective as there are pros and cons of living anywhere. No matter how terrible the drawbacks are, there is always a brighter side.

      @@OyisCorner I have never encountered so much rudeness as I have here. 'Go back to your own country' is commonly snapped at us, and many landlords act unscrupulously - over-charging for heating and lighting to people who don't know yet about ARMS, keeping deposits for no reason and not doing basic repairs.

    • @OyisCorner
      @OyisCorner  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@AnnabelleJARankin Oh wow, my experience with landlords has been the complete opposite. As a matter of fact my “Maltese” house owner was very helpful during our residency renewal and kept telling whoever was in charge the “we were the best tenants she’s ever had” . She sends us the ARMs bill when it comes in and we pay the exact amount.
      I’m sorry about your experience, I have also encountered rude Maltese bolt drivers too and I understand what you mean. Malta is definitely not paradise but like anywhere else, it has a few good sides.

    • @AnnabelleJARankin
      @AnnabelleJARankin 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@OyisCorner I know 2 separate people who were told after a year their bill was 1,000 euros (ARMS). Both went to solicitors and of course the ARMS bill never materialised.... their landlords lied. Both were new to the island so did not know about ARMS but knew that the amount was outrageous!

    Interesting. I am Maltese or I was up to 3 y.o, I am really Australian. I look at what's happening in Malta every now and then. My feelings is that there are too many foreigners in Malta who are there to get a Maltese E.U passport, so they can go and live in Germany or the U.K. Malta is a stepping stone. It is like New Zealand, foreigners go there, get citizenship to New Zealand after 2 years, and immediately hop on a plane to Australia. People from NZ can live and work in Australia, no restrictions.
    I cannot speak Maltese, I understand some of the language, but I know Maltese are proud of their language even if it's the result of foreign occupiers of the Muslim religion, people from North Africa near Tunisia. If you plan to stay in Malta and not leave to some E.U country, you should try to learn some Maltese. The Maltese people won't accept you if you don't, sure they are polite to you but you will be forever a barrani.
    There are lots of Africans in Australia mostly South Sudanese, an attractive Nilotic people with near black skins, much darker than yours. If you meet a Maltese person with the surname Sant, their ancestor was an African woman, a freed slave, she had 5 children by her owner. Her name was Antonia Sancti.

    • @OyisCorner
      @OyisCorner  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@Ponto-zv9vf Hi there, nice to hear from you. Yes there are lots of foreigners in Malta at the moment, but I do not think their aim is to get the Maltese passport, and even if it were, it’s not easy to get. As a matter of fact, an immigration lawyer confirmed it can take up to 18-20 years to naturalize.
      The reason why a lot of people leave Malta for the UK or Germany or other EU countries is because the Maltese government doesn’t encourage long stays on the island. So instead waiting to get a 48 hours notice to leave, or loose your job, people always look for an alternative if they want to remain in the EU.

    Please stop promoting moving to Malta, it's overpopulated as it is and not worth the move. Pay is very low, prices are high for everything. Traffic is unbearable, no parking anywhere. I could go on and on.
    Very soon there will be more foreigners here than Maltese, i feel bad for the Maltese people, its only a matter of time when they will not have a country to call their own. When you visit you will actually feel like you are in either India, the Philippines or Africa to name a few.

    • @AnnabelleJARankin
      @AnnabelleJARankin 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely agree. I moved for a job on Gozo in 2019 and it is a different island now. I don't regret moving but it is not the place it was - Malta is worse, I know. The government are useless at preserving the heritage architecture and providing decent roads, etc. (I have been outright lied to by so-called authorities here, it certainly seems true that there is a massive amount of corruption.) Every country seems to have an influx of people from other countries and not all respect the traditions and values that are worth upholding.
