    Great walk through video. I was not very confident about removing my clutch basket to get to the gearbox. This will help a lot. Thanks, Pete.

    I have a question. When I did mine I also had it with the pistons and rings already placed in by you guys. I did however push the piston out a little bit to far and exposed the oil ring. Now I don't know how much the position changed when it popped out. But I simply just squeezed it back in again. Could it have caused any problems by being In a different position to which you guys fitted it ? Thanks Jak

      Hi Jak
      No, you should be just fine.

    • @oneofmany1087
      @oneofmany1087 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe they could put a guideline showing on the piston with a black sharpy and as soon as one sees the line, they don't pull past it. safety line

  • @theorthobiker
    @theorthobiker ปีที่แล้ว

    So, silly question. If you had a kit with the piston and cylinders separate, could you install the piston into the cylinder (taking care of alignment of course), and THEN install using the method you have just shown?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, and in fact our kits are sold that way by default. The kit instructions cover setting the ring gaps and assembling the pistons and rings into the cylinders. However, we offer an optional service to do all that for you, which greatly simplifies installation and eliminates the need for any special tools on your part. More than 95% of our customers choose that option when they buy a kit from us.

    Can that be done with engine in frame? Thinking of buying an 883 and getting your 1275 kit....have to do exhaust & intake mods as well. You do mods to heads, correct?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the 1275 is a bolt-on that can be installed on a Saturday afternoon without even pulling the engine out of the frame. No mods to the intake or exhaust are required - although about 99% of guys do run aftermarket pieces to make more power. Yes, we are a fully equipped machine shop, including a 5-axis CNC setup to port heads, and we port several hundred sets of heads every year. It's important to match the heads, the cams, and the pistons, not only to fit together with proper clearances, but also to optimize power production. Watch this video for more information on this matching: www.hammerperf.com/ttvideos.shtml#highpowerconversion . You don't need a special tool to install the clips. Aaron shows exactly how to do it in the video.

    Are the ring gaps set at different degrees before they're placed in the cylinder?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, and that's covered in our kit installation instructions. But if you buy the ring gapping & preassembly service, we take care of that for you. The kit arrives with the pistons and rings pre-installed in the cylinders, ready to bolt on.

    Is it common to do this with the motor removed? Or can it be done with the motor still on the bike?

    • @HAMMERPERFORMANCE
      @HAMMERPERFORMANCE  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Normally this is done with the motor still in the frame.
