    This is a great tutorial! Many thanks. Great fly for a beginner to scratch his head over. Feel like I learnt a lot just getting the materials together for this one.

    Davie a few years ago you tied a fly that was sort of an Elk Hair Sedge with fine rubber legs. Best Cutthroat fly ever! Then another, the name was in my head a minute ago but now it is gone. Oh! A Sedgehog made of layered wings and knotted pheasant legs. I caught some huge fish on that! I am adding this one to my repertoire this year, I expect it to do well. Thanks Davie! If you ever go Patreon I am in!! Stay safe please! My best to you and your family!

    Nice fly Davie. I'll give a try. I went to a local pond today that the State of Mass. stocks with brookies and rainbow. I spoke with someone who told me a friend at the hatchery told him it was decided to stock all their fish now. No fall stocking due to the fact that the virus has left them short handed to man the hatcheries. I saw several fish leave the water chasing something. I used a yellow hornburg and caught a couple non trout. Then missed a fish on a mosquito. Nymphs tomorrow. The virus has curbed all activities here at least we can fish. It's good for the young fishermen who have no classes and old fly fisherman also I guess. Sad but a bright side. Stay well my friend and keep the videos coming. Frank

    Beautifully tied Dave. I have been experimenting with dying lately. It is quite fun. And not hard. But getting the color right takes some experimentation. Thanks again.

    Fantastic! Got hold of some legal seal here in the US but fiery brown isn’t as fiery as yours. I need some natural to dye. Anyway I’ve been fishing a lot of NC Spiders and Clydes over the past few years. I tie palmers with a gray mallard flank wing to use as an indicator on my three fly casts. Never thought of fiery brown hackle. Thank you so much for your expertise.

      Beautiful fly. A masterclass on perfection. Love the twist of hackle the end to separate fibers prior to making head. You always inspire me, Davie. Stay well my friend.

    Looks great! You make it look easy. Is the varnish you use the same type of varnish used in woodworking, or is it something special?

    is that Kingsmill-Moore Style ?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Lutz Sander,
      It is a variant of the original fiery brown bumble that Kingsmill tyed as he used Indian Crow in the tail and a dark grouse hackle at the front...I do have plans to tye a few of the originals...
      All the very best Davie..

    Beautiful colour combination! Do you dye all materials (seal's fur, hen & cock hackle) at the same time or each material seperatly?
    I'm thinking about tying a chocolate brown version of this fly - not as fiery as your fly obviously.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Fly Rider,
      I did dye the materials separately but I would be happy to dye the capes together but the seals fur would be on it's own...If you just have a brown coloured hackle then wind an orange down with it, you can also mix some orange into your brown dubbing as this will give you the fiery brown colour too..I'm glad you like the fly...
      All the very best Davie..
