Excellently done Lindsay!! I have to agree with the guilty pleasure explanation, I love tying palmered flies and very rarely get to use the except for the Kate McLaren 'cause that's my go to small loch fly. Great tutorial Lindsay 👍 ATB Chris.
I really like the look of these. I decided to tie them this year and fish them over here. You make a good point, especially for new tyers who want to make everything perfect, when in fact fish are usually less fussy than we are in all but the hardest fished water. I use the same wax as Davie after trying others. Veniards prepared Beeswax. Take a piece off the cake you get and warm it up in your hand to shape it to a thinner strip. I tried just sticking it to my finger with poor success so then I put it on a Bodkin then lightly melt the wax on one side of the band then place it on your index finger just down from your knuckle. It feels awkward at first but it gets better and works well
@@lindsayiflyfish my skin maybe too oily or maybe we're getting too wrinkly! 😁 So I made it stick melting it a little, it doesn't cause any discomfort. Davie explained that he made a thin band of it but if you look at his finger the wax is sort of thicker in the center. I put my Bodkin in the edge so once the wax is melted I can just lay it on my finger. Lindsay as you have said, whatever works for you is cool. I enjoy following your tying and fishing videos.
Your rib goes the wrong way Lindsay, if the hackle is being wound towards you so should the rib so that it crosses and ties down the hackle with each turn. I'd also suggest velcroing after the body hackle and rib so that the dubbing fiber blends into the hackle.
A challenging fly to tie but you cracked it. I’ll try and tie one or two for the box although I don’t really have any good quality capes for the Palmering.
It's just a natural Cock Cape, it was by my merger standards not cheap mind. Think I paid £55 for it during lock-down when my fishing budget became my fly tying budget. ;-)

You can do it, the red one I used in this video was £7 from a bargain bucket.
