As shitty as Roboto was/is, it was their second (well 2 songs are tied) highest charting song in their history, it along with Best of Times both were #3 on the charts. The album was also their 3rd highest charting album (#3) in their history.

Kilroy was way ahead of its time……if you watch the behind the music piece, Tommy was right…..crowds weren’t ready for it……especially in Texas……! lol…..but I’d love to see them reunite…….ya know….before we all die…..I mean fuck…..if Blink 182 can pull it together, why can’t Styx?

I saw Styx in Nashville around 1978 and it was a Saturday gig.
Styx was blazing through their set and they were really good.
The thing was..after each song there was no reaction from the crowd.
They were simply too stoned to applaud.
About halfway through this Dennis Young turned to the crowd and said..."What in the fuck is wrong with you people?"
It's one of my favorite Rock and Roll memories.....

Where you guys paused it for J.Y.'s he haw joker shit eating grin, if you look to his left, the replacement dude looks like Eddie Munster listening to the Joker at some comic con convention.

With respect to the DeYoung Styx split, most of what Tommy Shaw and James Young have said about it is purely a smoke screen. In one of the earliest interviews post the split (Goldmine magazine) they were stating that DeYoung had decided to not tour and "passed the baton" to Tommy Shaw. The only thing DeYoung asked for was a 6 month delay to their tour for the reunion album, Brave New World. DeYoung was recovering from a viral infection and need some time to get back his strength to be able to tour. His band mates did not want to wait and ended up giving DeYoung an ultimatum of show for tour rehearsals or we will replace you. DeYoung never stated he did not want to tour. James Young has always done what is best for him. Styx has always been his only gig in the music biz. He wanted to find a replacement for Shaw when he quit in '84 and continue on. The fact that DeYoung didn't feel that was the right thing to do did not sit well with James Young. Something that has seemed to bother him to this very day. Lastly, for decades they bashed Mr. Roboto and the album it comes from yet they have been playing the song on tour. Not only that but it is their first position encore. If it was that damaging to your career and a failure, you wouldn't be ending your shows with it.

If you play “Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto” backwards, it says “I’ve got a secret: I need a woman.”

Styx had 8 top 10 hits, 7 were written and sung by Dennis. He produced all of their albums and came up all of the concepts - Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Paradise Theatre in addition to Kilroy. So, kick out the main guy and they end up touring state fairs with 3 other bands. Not exactly kicking ass. Need to reunite for the fans - because the outfit touring now is a JOKE!

The keyboardist singer for Styx has some cool stories, it's a shame he never gets to play more than one Gowan hit every night, he has cosmetics, awake the giant, moonlight desires with the singer of Yes, the actual guy Jon Anderson. I wonder if Chris got to hear these songs being in range of Canadian radio
His Creepiest Music Fan Encounter, Lawrence Gowan of Styx - Rock History Canada (GUY IN CHAINS to another prison, tearfully explains how meaningful a song is to him)

I seen a recent interview with Dennis, and he is a bit odd as fuck also, he is still bitter, he even sang out loud at one point and still has the pipes, and says he wants to do at least one more show with the band despite all the bullshit.

I love that interview. The Styx behind the music is great too.
At some point these guys get tired of dealing with the drama of the lead singers. Especially when it’s obvious that no more hits will be written.
If Perry was in Journey all these years they would barely work. He’d never agree, he n a million years, to all the tours they’ve done.
So screw’em. Find someone who wants to work, can sing the material great and isn’t a pain in the ass.
