His career could have been very different if he hadn't been so concerned with public relations and showbusiness. No doubt he made a heck of a lot of money because of his "showmanship", but no doubt his racing went down the drain in the process. At least he is very rich now, and maybe this is why he still smiles and jokes o much. PS: He doesn't pronounce his name "Richeeardo", just "Ricardo".
He was still pretty strong at Renault (despite the massive retainer they paid him). I think people forget how many question marks surrounded the Honda engine in the year before they joined Red Bull, so I think his move to Renault was not completely off base. The failure at McLaren was embarrassing, though. It's unfair to say he's distracted by money or show business. This guy is all heart when it comes to the racing. He gave it his all. He just couldn't adapt to these ground-effect cars, which certainly shows he just has some talent limits as a driver.
@@fiarandompenaltygeneratorm5044 thank you for the very fair comment. @chicobicalho5621 states DR could have had a very different career if DR was not so concerned about PR or putting on a show. Both are BIG parts of F1 and, how money is made. @chicobicalho5621 the podiums or wins and beating team mates are also a bad career choice ? Have a nice holiday.

People talking F1 with a yankie accent always sounds wrong.
F1 is going to be for spoiled kids. If LH44 stops I am Done with F1.
