This is the best video of oiran dochu I have ever seen on TH-cam. Thank you so much for putting in all the historical information. I have watched hundreds of videos of this, but no one ever bothered to put in all of the information, so I didn’t know a lot of what was going on. Wonderful!
The Mystique of Oiran is still remembered to this day. The Geisha are not Prostitutes and they Continue their Tradition of Being Artists, Entertainers, and Perfect Hostesses. Yet Oiran Fascinates, and brings people to enjoy the History of what Oiran used to be like in the Edo Period. These are Actresses demonstrating the Dochu and what it must have been like for the Clients to meet an Oiran. Before Geisha became popular, the Oiran Danced and Sang and were seen as above their clients.
This is beautiful beyond words, thank you for the detailed inscriptions they really helped alot to understand the procession. Now I can truly say I learned something new and interesting about 17-18th century Japanese traditions.😊

like I wish people knew the actual history of these women. Their money and clothes don’t make them any less prostitutes. Also in the edo period they were like 17 and the women walking around her are lower class prostitutes and like 12-15 The only reason she is even having a parade is because a man paid for her to be with him and she is walking to meet him. And because she was such a high class 304 it brought money to the whole area. Her feet are uncovers because toes were sexy back in the day and the man walking with her has a handkerchief because no man could touch her other than the man that paid for her. Pain hidden behind beauty is a huge cultural metaphors in Japan…
