Great video Huntington team. Glad that I found this online and got to see several of my dear friends at the Huntington office still working to provide flood protection and recreation for the region. Ironically, Bluestone Lake was my first project after joining the Huntington District in 1973 and I just found the 1975 Bluestone Lake Master Plan (published April 1975) online in the Corps' library database. That recreation and land management plan was my baby for two years and I spent countless hours at the lake (on the lake and hiking the property) to formulate expanded campground sites, boat launching sites, picnicking and site seeing locations. Got a personal tour through the dam's inner chambers by the reservoir manager at the time, noisy place. The boat ramp under the Route 20 bridge (Bluestone River) was the first project built by the Huntington District using the PL89-72 recreation cost sharing authorization. Also ironically, Bluestone Lake was one of my last projects before retirement as I spent several months determining the potential downstream impacts of the dam's possible failure and the impacts to upstream recreation sites (inundation) while the work progressed on the stilling basin construction. My thanks to the Huntington team for their hard work and leadership in getting that dam rehabilitation project completed.

This is really great information. For those of us new to West Virginia and who live along these rivers, this video really helps our education of the area. Thank you!

Bluestone Lake is a gem of opportunity. However getting on the lake is all but impossible. Businesses are not allowed. You may get lucky to rent one of 6 pontoon boats. 2000 acres of missed opportunity. With them wanting to close all the campsites, good luck visiting and enjoying this fabulous lake.

I spent many hours both above and below the damn in my younger years. I sorot of always ignored the sign about the horn blast and rising water until I was in the middle of the catwalk fishing and it started sounding. I was the last person out of the water and by the time I got my truck loaded up the breakers had disappeared. It made a believer out of me. Back in the 60's the lake was a happening place with two marinas completely full, it's sad to see the state of the lake now. It needs a good dredging up the New and the Bluestone but it will continue to fill up with garbage I would assume.

Isn't it great to see one of our great successes after witnessing so many failures, especially involving the federal government.

My grand father Charles E. Montgomery sr. ( Pipestem) helped to build this dam.

My great-grandfather, Lewis G. Williams, was killed building this dam. He was also a bus driver for the local schools.

This video is disturbing. The over reach is mind numbing. Sorry, Robert Lilly.
