  • In this video, I will show you what it's like to be working on a ship as an electrician.
    This is an average day for me, there are times when work becomes so hectic which is impossible to make a video out of it. Watch me perform maintenance, troubleshooting testing, and after work activities.
    Hello I am Mark Roy, I am an Filipino electrical engineer, signed on as an electrician on a ship, most of my ships I have I have been to were containerships, This time, I am on a bulk carrier ship.
    I love taking pictures and videos, but not fond with speaking in front of a camera. That is why I made this video as a challenge for me. I want to progress myself in the upcoming more videos.
    If I did not torture you with my robotic voice, then please consider subscribing. It will be a huge confident boost for me. Thanks! See you soon.

    Great job, Mark! Only one remark, on repair of electric range: if you see that fuse is blown, you must check why it was blown. Most probably it happened due to short circuit, which could happened during cooking, when burner is hot. It could be in hotplate, in thermostat or because of sticky or burnt contacts of the switch. Also, in such situation, you better inspect all these parts, check their wires and contacts for water or oil on them, and do insulation test of all burners to prevent any possible malfunction in the future.

      What's the difference bt electrician and electrical engineer ?

    • @gesshugh9976
      @gesshugh9976 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@user-gw9ub2tx4g electricians have professional trade specific training and licensure, and provide field service electrical work, generally involving a building, or in this case a ship. Electrical engineers have both professional and academic training that includes science math and engineering theory, culminating in a 4 year bachelor's, generally of a B.s or B.eng, and eventually, sometimes, a professional engineering licence. Electrical engineers tend not to due much installing or assembly, as that is lower paying work generally reserved for tradesmen, and instead usually focus on the designing of electrical systems, the construction of which might then be carried out by an electrical engineering technician, or even an electrician. Generally, engineers have more formal education and are paid more. Electricians on the other hand tend to have a lot of hands on experience.

    When you are out of the marines are you a registered electrician? Or do you have to go through an apprenticeship again?

    • @martinobrien1877
      @martinobrien1877 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Merchant Marines are not military. I joined a union (Seafarers International Union) and start off as a wiper (essentially engineroom janitor) then you take Coast guard exams and upgrade to the next position after you've sailed for a certain amount of time. My union makes upgrading easier by offering free courses and testing, however you can do it on your own self study if you choose. Wiper -> Oiler -> Qmed-> Electrician. Overall it could take about 3 years to get your Electricians. That's if you sail 6-8 months a year and continue with your own self study.

      Yes. If power supply is present, you need to check the protection devices first on the circuit. These devices are bound to fail to protect the line and machineries.
