Hello, Odd Jacobson/Oddeum here! Just wanted to say thank you all so much for the opportunity to the do the character art (and some backgrounds!) for SwordAF, its been a massive joy, and so surreal to see my art in smosh videos. I've so looked forward to the biweekly (then weekly) updates, though I've been too shy about commenting lol. The fandom of smosh has been so encouraging and kind to me, which is not always the case with fandoms, and the whole experience has been just lovely. Here's to season 2 !
yes! i had no interest in DND before because it was so unfamiliar to me, but this was such a beginner-friendly series to watch and i absolutely adored it

The way Angela played out Bug's storyline is so cool now that I get to hear her explain it! Bug's journey of trying to fit in and fight and act like other hero's and the people he looks up to, but then realizing and learning to be who he is and fight as himself. Amazing, I'm so excited to see more of him next season.
My favorite twist was rumpum coming back as the soul of the prince. It was fully improved, brought to life by the hilarious sequence of choices by the characters, those being Fernies mending and bugs praying, along with Damien's quick thinking; it felt so intertwined with the story and so real. Overall an awesome series to watch and I'm SO excited for season two
“Ze pairvairt!” was hilarious, but I think my favorite scene in the entire series was the performance “battle” that turned out to be completely unnecessary. LMAO
dont forget to post episode compilations! some people like to wait for things to finish before they watch and this series deserves way more views than it has!

I’m trying to find a way to say the thing I appreciate most was everyone’s improv, and the flexibility of Damien to not only accommodate the humor and the off the wall plans (praying a soul into a body) but to work it in so naturally that the story feels seamless. One of my favorite dnd sessions cannot wait for the next season
I literally have the Sword AF playlist saved and keep replaying all of them! I also watched Doard AF but in Sword AF everyone was so into these characters that it became so immersive. I want to give everyone a round of applause but I want to highlight Damien’s efforts as the DM. He painted every scene so vividly, making everything flow from the story to the characters. I loved how everyone had distinct personalities; Koda was so sassy and gave off regal vibes but also had silly moments, Dolores was such a mom that was sexually repressed, Fernie was so comical but like also surprisingly smart, and Bug had such a character arc, from having low self esteem to becoming into a powerful castle moving badass!!! Honestly I wish I had other people I could discuss this series with because I already had so many theories ( I know I’m reading to deep into it). Also thank you to the Smosh crew who worked behind the scenes to make this happen, we see and appreciate you!!!
I like to think that one of the little easter eggs in Sword AF IS that, like Fernie, Shayne also does not now how money works and sustains himself off of office Lacroix. (Which is what the moonwater is probably based off)
I really want to feel more connected to Koda as a character. He seems so serious and a little distant, which will make it really cool to see what made him that way or have moments in the future that bring out a vulnerable side. Like a good anime somber/too cool tough character. Those characters tend to have really rewarding arches.
This group is just so special. Everyone brings their own thing to the table and it comes together in this awesome sandwich. RIP Gunthar. Long live dm Damien tho
I never knew how to play even though I grew up when D&D was so huge. You have inspired me to start looking for a group to play with and I’m 50 years old. I loved all my your characters but Damien was my favorite. I hope I find a DM like him.
I loved the moments where bug just broke and had to take time to process really difficult character developments while still being expected to solve puzzles, it felt real

I second that. I just recently started to check out D&D content and of course that led me to Critical Role. I would love to go through the entire series, but I feel like I want to WATCH instead of just listen to the podcast version because you get to see the facial expressions and interactions, but it's such a long time to sit and watch... this was just the right amount of time to sit and give my full attention without feeling like I spent all night on it
it's been four months and i've already watched the whole series 3 times already. I am really looking forward to the second season! This also got me into dnd :) (Also Damien is a great dm!)

Bro I thought I was tripping about Kevin. I usually watch these in the background while I do something else, but I still make sure I pay attention to major details of the story and Damien's side characters so I don't get lost on who he was playing at the moment. Safe to say I was baffled to hear about a moth that was just inside Fernie come out and talk around the latter parts of the campaign acting like he was there the whole time. I just chalked it up to an inside joke y'all had, but I'm glad we're getting like an OVA/DLC type of video with him in it now lmao
Love you all, and am proud of what you've created here. This series was so fun to watch. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I love that the entire cast has learned stuff about either roleplaying specifically in D&D or mechanical aspects, and are candid and humble about it. Like, that makes me really appreciate this series and am definitely looking forward to the continuation.
This was a great story, and I loved seeing everybody grow as the story went on: the cast in their characters and Damien as a DM. Congrats on a stellar season 1 and hope to see season 2 soon!

Just started watching smosh again with the Anthony announcement, so glad I did. This d&d series has been my favourite relaxing show in a looooong time.
I love how passionate Damien is about this! With this being my first real intro to DND, it was fun to see everyone really get into their characters lol
I love how much the cast put into their backstories! As someone who plays A LOT and writes so much in my backstory i just love it! I have explored so many characters and different personalities it has helped me open my mind to others in real life and what they have been through

Hearing their thoughts and reactions to the growth of this series shows their efforts in making these kinds of videos, I started to understand and enjoy D&D after watching these and never realized how fun this game could be!
im so excited. In a different video i think shayne said something like “sometimes you try to listen to music and u think there is no more music, u ran out.” i feel weirdly rejuvenated with entertainment right now
One thing I hope happens in the next season is I hope the players get more familiar with the 5e mechanics. I like to see what players can do with the game’s rules beyond using their imagination.
I really enjoyed this campaign because at the end of the day dnd is about having fun and watching actors be able to riff in a much more natural and charismatic way than im used to it everything to me
I loved this and followed each week. Waited until now to comment for some reason though. Hope there'll be a season 2 soon, though I'm sure it'll take some planning time
I want a four book series, one for each of the season elves. So excited to see how Damien incorporates whatever got bleeped into the lore. I also hope that once all of that has been revealed, we get a short of the clip they actually cut out. Seems like Chanse is really passionate about that story and I would love to hear it from his perspective.
Maybe I missed it but Damien deserves so much praise for being such an excellent voice actor! It added so much for me who primarily listened to this series
As any DnD story this one also started off a little wobbly (even for critical role the first few eps of a new campaign are awkward till the players get comfortable and work out the dynamics, so this is normal), but it picked up really fast. The chemistry was really good, Damien's NPCs and narrations were fun, the player characters were fun and the stroy is intriguing too. I am happy this is a success and hope to see much much more of it!
Smosh games has always been my favorite, and board af more specifically, but sword af has definitely taken the top spot. Loved it, it felt like watching a tv show because you were so into it. Cant wait for season 2
I'm going to say it, it was a success because the story was batshit insane and so interesting and random and unpredictable and the characters felt like they were plucked out of other tales and thrown into this one, it was that perfect level of creative chaos that this needed to be a success...
I legitimately loved this series. I don't have friends that will come over to hang out, let alone invest time in a game like this. This series gave me a chance to kind of be a part of it with a cast that I already know and love. I really enjoyed Damemin as a DM. All the characters were perfect for each person and it really felt like the cast was into their characters as well. This was actually one of the best series on Smosh Games, over Legacy to me honestly.
I have done 2 months of weekly dnd with the first 2 weeks shadowing and creating a character. I was way too high and way too uncreative to keep up, which was surprising because I went in thinking it's a relatively slow game. So I know the basics but not the intricacies. Knowing I don't have fun playing, I had SO MUCH FUN watching you. Also I can't wait for season 2 and see how it goes now that you all have a better understanding of the game, because you all are an absolute perfect dnd group
I loved Damien's inflection in his "We did it!" as a subtle callback to Angela's super cute "I did it!!!" in one of the Challenge Pit episodes. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it definitely gave me that vibe.
The reveal that Koda's lover is also a character played by Chanse in another campaign is the most Chanse thing I've seen

My favorite series on Smosh, I cant wait for more!

I love how much the cast put into their backstories! As someone who plays A LOT and writes so much in my backstory i just love it! I have explored so many characters and different personalities it has helped me open my mind to others in real life and what they have been through

Hearing their thoughts and reactions to the growth of this series shows their efforts in making these kinds of videos, I started to understand and enjoy D&D after watching these and never realized how fun this game could be!

One thing I hope happens in the next season is I hope the players get more familiar with the 5e mechanics. I like to see what players can do with the game’s rules beyond using their imagination.
I really enjoyed this campaign because at the end of the day dnd is about having fun and watching actors be able to riff in a much more natural and charismatic way than im used to it everything to me
I loved this and followed each week. Waited until now to comment for some reason though. Hope there'll be a season 2 soon, though I'm sure it'll take some planning time

I want a four book series, one for each of the season elves. So excited to see how Damien incorporates whatever got bleeped into the lore. I also hope that once all of that has been revealed, we get a short of the clip they actually cut out. Seems like Chanse is really passionate about that story and I would love to hear it from his perspective.

Chanse had mentioned that he watched calamity recently, and I don't know if this is a hot take but Brennan Lee Mulligan would make a superb joker
As any DnD story this one also started off a little wobbly (even for critical role the first few eps of a new campaign are awkward till the players get comfortable and work out the dynamics, so this is normal), but it picked up really fast. The chemistry was really good, Damien's NPCs and narrations were fun, the player characters were fun and the stroy is intriguing too. I am happy this is a success and hope to see much much more of it!
Smosh games has always been my favorite, and board af more specifically, but sword af has definitely taken the top spot. Loved it, it felt like watching a tv show because you were so into it. Cant wait for season 2

Smosh D&D is my Roman Empire… I think about it everyday and miss it so much
I'm going to say it, it was a success because the story was batshit insane and so interesting and random and unpredictable and the characters felt like they were plucked out of other tales and thrown into this one, it was that perfect level of creative chaos that this needed to be a success...
I legitimately loved this series. I don't have friends that will come over to hang out, let alone invest time in a game like this. This series gave me a chance to kind of be a part of it with a cast that I already know and love. I really enjoyed Damemin as a DM. All the characters were perfect for each person and it really felt like the cast was into their characters as well. This was actually one of the best series on Smosh Games, over Legacy to me honestly.
I have done 2 months of weekly dnd with the first 2 weeks shadowing and creating a character. I was way too high and way too uncreative to keep up, which was surprising because I went in thinking it's a relatively slow game. So I know the basics but not the intricacies. Knowing I don't have fun playing, I had SO MUCH FUN watching you. Also I can't wait for season 2 and see how it goes now that you all have a better understanding of the game, because you all are an absolute perfect dnd group

I loved Damien's inflection in his "We did it!" as a subtle callback to Angela's super cute "I did it!!!" in one of the Challenge Pit episodes. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it definitely gave me that vibe.
