I came into this not knowing a single thing about D&D and came out with my heart so full and SOBBING. This was amazing and I am so so so excited for season 2.
Yeah, I really love how accessible they made it. There's just as much to enjoy for people who've never picked up a die as there is for experienced campaigners. I hope it inspires some people who might have previously been intimidated, to try the game themselves.
100% agree, the only "experience" i have is from Baldurs Gate 3, but watching it being played for real, with the amount of freedom it gives is soo much fun.
I know how much work this took, and season 2 will take a looong while before it comes, but yeah i'll be waiting just like you

I'm right now binging Critical ROle's first Campaign it's soo fucking fun
Props to the editor/editors this truly felt like a singular video. The story was seamless without transitional distractions. Honestly if I wasn't paying attention when it changed chapters I didn't realize it had most of the time. So much love to the editors and love to Damien for creating this amazing journey for all of us to go on. ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
I put this on on my tv and unless you really pay attention you can't see the episode chapters but I figured I'd notice and said "I'll watch the first episode and then I'll go to bed". About 15 minutes into episode 2 I figured I must have gotten far enough by now but I didn't know for sure lmao
I was also watching on my tv and honestly I didn't notice a chapter switch unless the cast changed clothes
dude another incredible thing the editors did was add SOUND EFFECTS! I absolutely adore the immersiveness, this is so incredible. the thought of someone watching this whole damn thing and taking a few minutes to find certain specific sounds (that some people may not even consciously notice) for every audible action is just so insane to me. absolute dedication.

honestly, I had this playing in the background and didn’t even realise that I was on the third episode until I checked the chapter index. I am accustomed to watching critical role, so I am used to 4 our episodes and didn’t realise that I wasn’t still in the first episode.

Damien loves DMing lol, literally can't contain his excitement over his players choices. My entire group including myself are new players and our DM allowing us to explore the funny moments and laughing with us, such as Damien does, has been the highlight of the sessions. We once had a moment where a guard was suspicious of our group carrying around some fancy rugs we had acquired (legally) and I did the jedi mindtrick "These are not the rugs you're looking for." Rolled like a 23 total and the DM handled it great, literally just repeated the phrase back in the guards voice. So awesome.

How does Damien switch from different characters so fast? And he talks so descriptively like he’s reading from a book, but it’s literally just improvised. Hes so talented

When Angela said “I don’t think the name is gonna come from you Dolores” and then Angela using “Sword of Heroes” it really showed growth and development for all the characters, and the naming of “Castle Gunthar” it all made my heart grow and I can’t wait for season 2
My thoughts after rewatching- “wow, it’s crazy to see your heroes at work.”

The "backstory episode" may genuinely be my favorite piece of content Smosh Games has ever produced. The story is genuinely really good.
just here to say i LOVED season 1! I was moved constantly by Damien's world building and immersion, everyone's commitment to their characters; the perils and development of characters, everything! I rewatched/relistened to episodes while i waited to be able to bingewatch the last few in the series - It was honestly such a fun series and rollercoaster of emotions at times; I honestly can't WAIT for season 2! Massive Kudos guys❤👏💪

damien being so nervous about this and then it being such a banger is so heartwarming. he hit it out of the ballpark. i watch a shitload of other campaigns and am a TAZ/D20/CR fan, and Damien's storytelling is up there with the other great campaigns. so proud of the goober
Can we just shout out the editors for a moment?! BRAVO!! The sound effects and music put in the background made it so easy to be completely immersed. I was genuinely tearing up by the Epilogue and the sound design had everything to do with that. Incredible work!

Damien is genuinly such a talented DM.
The pure emotion during the bit of 4:16:12 pulled me right in and made me truly invested in a character that was barely introduced less than a minute ago.
His storytelling is immaculate.
Shane's "cistern, or a brothern" comment absolutely killed me, and I honestly thought Amanda's description following that was going to be a joke about like "The Cistern Chapel". Love this series and the attention to detail for all the imagery ❤

It's such a treat to have the whole season in one video like this. I'm impressed all over again at how it takes someone as smart as Shayne to play someone as mentally uncomplicated as Fernie, and I am so here for it.
I’m watching this to refresh my memory before season two, and I genuinely teared up at the end when bug’s friends cheered for him. Such an amazing season. It’s amazing to see your heroes at work.
Used this as an excuse to finally watch this series and video it was worth it, this was so fucking good. Damien's storytelling is top tier
Fernie is instantly my favorite character, and we must protect him at all times! TBH I didn't watch the series as it was being released (I got busy with my own actual play stuff and couldn't watch content for long periods at a time) but now that it's the holiday season, that's slowing down enough for me to watch the show!
7:40:20 onward is the greatest villain reveal. It made me feel angry as well. Damian is a fucking genius.

What’s so good about this series as well as betrayal is that everyone is actually enthusiastic to be there! There was definitely a period of smosh games where it felt like people were just in videos but didn’t care about them whereas now it feels a lot more like people actually WANT to be playing these games and it makes the videos a hundred times better
Bug had a GOATED character arc
i’m ACTUALLY CRYING at the epilogue. the character development and storyline is so amazing and i relate to all the characters at some point throughout the campaign. so excited to start season 2

There are so many good moments but as I'm nearing the end, the way "Sword of Heroes" came to them entirely naturally is pretty amazing.

this is like my umpteenth time rewatching this series and i've just noticed how fernie tells delores that her "scarf is worth so much more" at the outpost in episode 3 and like its such a quiet little wholesome moment that says so much about not only these characters but also how beautifully they've been understood and brought to life. like it's so natural and so subtle IM OBSESSED. this is truly my favourite thing smosh has created.
This was absolutely great, genuinely some of the best actual play I've listened to/watched. I didnt watch Sword AF as it was releasing so this compliation was so great for the binge, and you guys all did such a fantastic job. 😊 While everyone killed it, special shout out to Amanda, who on Smosh Mouth was talking about how she really discovered a love for D&D - it really shows. And of course for Damian for some top-tier DMing. Congratulations to all the cast and crew, this was a total triumph.
I am SOOO excited for season 2! I can’t wait.

I still absolutely love the end of season one. Sword of heroes, castle gunthar and Damien’s wrap up of all the characters and their returns home. Such a good end to season 1. A story that feels deserving of this ending, not just given it. Can’t wait for season 2. Amazing job everyone!! 🔥🤘🏻

BRAVO!!! I was initially turned away from this idea of watching Sword AF, I’m not sure why as I’ve liked DnD content in the past. This full collection of the whole first season intrigued me enough to smash through it during work and now I am itching for a season 2,3,4,5 & beyond!! Very well done, great story telling and great creative character work from the whole gang. Keep this content coming, my favorite up to this point!!!

this is awesome! I just wish they would order their playlists in release order where the older episodes play first. I've been wanting to follow Sword: AF, but the playlist goes in reverse order and I typically watch them while laying in bed at night. so annoying to have to climb out from under my warm blanket to change to the next proper episode.

Many people in my life play DND and I have been interested in playing, and Sword AF became my perfect introduction to it. Seeing the development of each character and the story being woven as a whole, I was truly impressed and excited. If he never said it, I would not have believed this was Damien's first time as a DM; he did such a wonderful job. I am so excited to see what Sword AF season 2 has to bring, and I am hoping the cast and crew ALL get their roses. Phenomenal job guys :)

Best Soap Opera Ever! I could feel every characters emotions, I could see heartache, the glory of the battles. I could picture every encounter they made with other beings of the campaign. This is 9 hours of the best thing I've ever had the pleasure to witness. I could just close my eyes and let my imagination conjured the story as it developed. Very well written.
