What a story. Praise God she survived and went on to keep helping people. Amazing. That will stick with me. Thanks SPN for bringing us the thoughts and ideas for protecting ourselves and our communities!
I carry a backup on my ankle pretty much every day simply for ease of access. I commute a lot and also work sitting down at a desk quite a bit. Unfortunately, I personally find the firearm in my waistband a bit cumbersome to access if I'm crouched over a desk or strapped into a car seat. If something ever happened to me while I was seated, it's much easier for me to reach my left arm down, slide my pant leg up, and draw a back-up with my right hand. This opposed to fumbling around with shirts, waistbands, and seatbelts; all to reach a firearm that is wedged tightly against the 90 degree bend in my body. When standing, the firearm in my waistband obviously becomes easier to access than my ankle back-up, hence while I carry both.
@@nathen9257 the slide can still get caught and go out of battery, even if it’s a fixed barrel. I think all semi autos where the slide shifts back and forth get stuck when shot while pressed into the target
When working, I always have a backup. When off, it depends. When out hunting and hiking, I keep a second handy, it may be loaded with snakeshot when in snake country, or wadcutters when grouse or rabbits are potential.
I almost always have a back up pistol. Your main gun could have a stoppage. You could run out of ammo. Or like that woman the gun could be knocked away. A big point that is never mentioned is the ability to arm whomever is with you should the need arise and you have the time to do so. Two armed people is much better than one.
I was shot in the chest and hand when i was a teenager during a fight gone bad.but now days My life style is alot more relaxed i usually pocket carry a lcp custom 7 round no back up mag during the week (because i work 60 hours a week) then on the weekends i carry a p365 12+1 and a back up 17 rounder i feel no need to carry a back up gun
Sorry about your family friend - what a horrible yet incredible story of survival. I don't think it's necessary for me to carry a back up gun. I may not carry even a back up mag if I have more than 10+1 already. For duty situations, it's not even a debate, you should carry an extra gun. Good discussion, thanks for the video.
My LCP is always in my pocket. When it’s my primary, my Benchmade Griptillian is it’s “backup”. Otherwise the LCP is the backup/NY reload for my S&W 642 or Shield 45.
G26 with G17 backup mag every.single.day BUT in winter i have a SW 442 in my coat pocket as well. In warmer weather, i have my NAA mini in 22 mag as a back up in a pocket.
I live in Tennessee and if I have to go to Memphis or Nashville, I definitely backup carry. Keep a go bag in your car guys. That way, you'll be ready for whatever happens.
I pocket carry a Ruger LCP or LCP Max everywhere aside from work. A lot of the time lately, I will also carry a belt gun. I have been bouncing between a JFrame, Glock 43, Glock 26, Glock 19, or Sig P365. If I carry a belt gun, I also still have my LCP.
Very true. As a former officer, that story hits close to home. An evening out with my wife, we were being followed by 3 migrants because I was an officer. At the small of my back, I had my s&w 9mm and G26 on my right ankle.
I've been thinking about a backup gun for a while. I'm thinking of a revolver, though. I want to know if it will work when I pull that trigger. Glad your friend made it, and I'm sorry this happened to her.
I can’t really carry a backup when I’m working, but always pocket carry either a S&W 642 or Ruger LCP MAX. When I’m not working, one of those serves as a backup and I carry something bigger and better (depends on where I’m going and what I’m doing as to what that is). Favorites are Colt King Cobra 3”, Glock 27, and M&P 2.0 Compact 4.25” 9mm
I’ve carry back up only some times not all the time usually my little 25 acp is all I carry in pocket i carry my Glock 36 with me on side but I always have that little 25 and extra mag in pocket when I run into stores etc take out dogs get mail at home etc .Now when I was younger I carried my pistol and my 38 on ankle carry but as I get older less weight on me the better why I don’t always carry that small Glock I have high capacity pistols and l6 rd ones I prefer the 45 as my main carry. But I own a lot of handguns and I’ve carried them all and have all the calibers etc .
Thanks for the video. I just thought that maybe I should go through with carrying a backup. It's something I thought about before but rejected because I didn't want extra weight in my pocket, but I guess I could carry my 22 in a pocket holster in case something like this happens to me.
I think a knife is a better backup, but if you can wear something that lets you pocket carry that’s cool. I am working towards a strong side carry and a blade on weak side or appendix. T-Kell knives has some cool blades I’m looking into.
I'll sometimes appendix knives if not in my right pocket. I've been looking for a good small fixed blade myself to appendix carry on the left side, but it's rare to find one with a decent sheath clip, and when I do, they're usually too expensive or too long (FL has a 3.5" knife rule). I may settle for the cheap Smith & Wesson Boot Knife for now.
I always carry a g17 or 19 and a hellcat, shield plus, bodygaurd 2.0 or fn reflex in my pocket. If im in the woods ill carry a g 20 with one of my micro 9mms in my pocket.
It has been years since I carried a back up on me. When I did, it was usually an identical gun, or at least one that will share magazines and ammo. Back then I typically had an IWB holster and a shoulder rig I would wear. But today, I am in a far different situation than that, very different from you in that respect as well.👍 I am single, and my kids are grown, just me & the dog now. Most of my travel is chasing waterfalls, and camping along the way. I do not see a lot of threatening locations these days. I sure hope the lady from your story is doing well today, I hate to hear about stuff like this happening to anyone.🤦♂
I think carrying a revolver in a jacket pocket with a open trigger guard holster is a good idea if u practice shooting from the hip/coat pocket butt that's a lot of practice for a very specific situation but it would be really fast and discreet if u could practice it i got the idea from El Camino the breaking bad movie lol But otherwise it's too hot most of the time for 2 guns unless ur a cop

whats the beef with the P365? i get its not your favorite, but you have said you like it before and you own it, and a holster for it. So why do you say you would never recommend it for carry?
2 of 4 had terrible malfunctions. One being a round locked in the chamber with the slide completely locked out of battery. I wouldn’t have made it out if that was my carry gun. They know they have issues and still sell them.
I’m surprised you still tell people to never carry a 365. It’s well known that the issues have been resolved. I’m 1200 round through mine and no malfunctions at all.
For the civilian edc ccw carrier???? No, a b/u weapon isn’t necessary. For police work, I carried one for 34 years on the job. S&W J-frame until the day I retired. While carrying off-duty, I never carried a back up gun. Well, to be honest, 99% of the time I never carried a back up gun off-duty. People, remember… as civilian ccw carry, your job is to try and GET AWAY, not apprehend a bad guy. Therefore, a back-up gun isn’t necessary. Although… it won’t hurt and if you want to carry a BUG, I say go for it.
Cops _are_ civilians. If there is an active physical threat, it is the duty of all able bodied men to stop it if there is no paid law enforcement around.

I'm thinking a revolver is a good back up because the situations are contact distances and they can't go out of battery
That or have a gun with a fixed barrel like the beretta tomcat

I tend to pocket carry my back up... Either a Bodyguard 380 or Bodyguard 38, usually...
If you can find out number shits fired, how many were hits anywhere and how many were torso hits and what ammo that would be good info.
