I found an old leather shoulder holster at a gun show made for a 1911. It was 20.00 and I didn't think twice about it. I was finally able to carry my full size 1911 comfortably.
Can I ask what your general body size is? I'm 6'2" 250 pounds and carry a full sized Glock 17 without any problems... I even have a "weight belt" style holster that puts my Glock on 1 side and up to 2 spare mags on my other side
@@RoLaAus-Robert I'm around 5' 7 and 165 . I've got a bit of a dad belly but I can carry my g3c iwb without any problem. The shoulder holster is the best way for me to carry my full size guns especially in cold weather under a coat
@@danperry3116 have you tried a belly band holster? If I am going to carry using the under the shoulder holster, I would prefer that it be under a coat, but outside of the normal shirt, but I wouldn't be very comfortable with that being dully concealable unless I keep my jacket zipped or buttoned, which adds an element to the draw that is, in my opinion kind of unavoidable, so I like to have it under my shirt in the belly band, or my current favorite setup is a "fanny pouch" type shoulder holster where I keep my full sized glock in a zipped up pocket. Again, there is that level of. I need both hands to draw, but as they say on Active Self Protection "don't draw on the drop" (if someone has the drop on you wait for you turn to counter-ambush)
Dude, the reason I love your channel is because you say what you think, and you don't give a $hit what other people think! Your take on the crazy hidden holster thing was perfect. If it works, it's safe, and someone will help someone actually carry, all good. Who cares what other people think. Great video.
A good holster, gun belt and smaller gun made the difference for me. I really didn’t like carrying my full size handgun but switched to a sub-compact and that makes it much more comfortable.
i AM IN THE SAME MIND SET AND SITUATION. I ONLY WANT TO CARRY MY SMALL PISTOLS AND A BACK UP MAG. THE BETTER THE COMPACT AND MICRO PISTOLS GET, THE MORE PREVELANT AND RELIABLE I BECOME. I DO NOT THINK THIS IS A "TREND OR FAD".BEST OF LUCK TO YOU. I HOPE WE NEVER HAVE TO USE THEM, OTHER THAT PRATICE & ENJOYMENT.
One thing you gotta remember is if your at 10 yards on a moving target, you'll want that larger size frame. With that being said everything had their place. I carry a g19 appendix and I keep a g43 in my bag. And in summer I switch. But I'd much rather shoot at anything over 7 yards and moving with my 19
@@ballsack8937 Same.. My G19 is my favorite sidearm, but sometimes concealing it can be an absolute chore depending on the clothes you're wearing. I don't mind it in the winter, but I'm looking to get something smaller for the summer. Probably a Sig P365XL. That way it still has a decent sight radius and barrel length without the width of the absolute chonker Glock. I considered the 43, but it's single stack and I don't want to go that low on ammo capacity.
I have worn the shoulder rig setup for years when I was working plainclothes and when I was assigned to the Inspectors Bureau. Galco is my go to shoulder rig. I just bought a new rig from Galco for my Sig 365 9mm. It's been awhile since I bought a new rig. Boy did I have a shock. It was over $300. But no buyer regrets. Thanks for doing these vids. Very informative.
Getting to a shoulder holster inside of a jacket, in a crisis situation, is at least easier than getting to a gun that you own that’s at home and next to your sock drawer.
Carried for over 35 years , on an off duty. I have purchased all the fads over the years. Always end up with hip carry, in the waste or on out side at 3 or 4 o’clock. Mags on the other side .
i THINK YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD, WHEN YOU SAID" WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE YOU CARRY". Yes, it may not be ideal. The importance of having a tool on you is vital. Great message & video.
I've always said I wish someone would open a holster store where you could go try all the different holsters before buying. A lot of gun stores they're in plastic packaging. I have soooo many holsters I've bought online thinking this is the one coming to find out it's not!
I bought an Urban Carry holster a few years ago and use it a lot during the winter when I'm wearing thicker pants and I don't have to worry about being too hot. It works great, it's very comfortable once you get used to it. It doesn't really print at all and if it does it prints in a way that no one would guess it's a firearm. Like the company says it looks more like you have something in your pocket like a wallet than anything else. It pulls out very easily and is pretty quick and easy. During the warmer months I do prefer I smaller more traditional kydex or leather IWB holster though.
Most people dont understand, besides a good holster, you need a dedicated gun belt. A gun belt is stiff, will not pull or stretch, and able to support the weight and spread the weight around so the holster isnt causing a hot spot on your hip. I use Nexbelt and Kore. Both use the same ratchet lockinf 1/4 inch increments. You can tighten without unbuckling. Just push thr belt in a bit and it will ratch in 1/4 inch clicks. If you just finished a ig meal and need some room, a release lever on the underwide of thr buckle releases without unbuckling.
Was dealing with this issue lately, I usually carry IWB but this irritates my psiatic nerve when carrying my full size BRG 9mm (16+1). Just got a belly band holster to keep the weight off of my gun belt, and this makes a big difference 👍👍
I am 5’7” and 230 so I print with everything I have found or tried a couple years ago I bought a sneaky Pete holster! Now I carry everyday running my belt through the loops secures the holster to my body! It looks like a cellphone case it works great for me!
@@Super_Vario64 I'm using an urban carry g3 lieutenant for my short barrel 1911, or .38spcl LCR. No printing, even when I sit. Practice is the key with a smooth draw.
To reduce or eliminate sweat, use mole skin (originally for blisters when hiking) on the holster where it touches skin. Eliminates most or all sweat build up and reduces pressure soreness significantly. Or have your wife or dog carry it for you, and keep them close!
I loved this video Usually you’re shooting with the wife, but to take the time to go over conceal carry options as thoroughly as you did…. Awesome job!! 1) You were hilariously spot on 2) Showed zero concern for showing off the “dad bod” 3) Explained the where and why as though I was the one modeling the carry option. I found myself holding my breathe at times! LOL
I actually love the crossbreed IWB holster and when I feel like it I have a secondary holder from crossbreed for a spare mag on my off-hand side. For me the soft leather is far more comfortable than the hard plastic of the one you prefer.
Leather is comfortable and quiet. Its what I prefer. Small or minimalist if possible. The less bulk the better. I use Kusiak leather treated shaped and form fitted for a specific pistol. Won't collapse. Tight stand alone retention. Also use Galco and Bulldog leather friction holsters, one an IWB and one a OWB slide holster that fits several different pistols. I use an Andicen leather thumb break/snap in a IWB/OWB dual role for a revolver. I use a neoprene BUGBite calf holster occasionally. A nylon horizontal shoulder rig with jackets. But mostly IWB or OWB is what I wear. I tried a Versacarry IWB at one time and although a good holster, it turned out to be just too bulky for me.
I’ve found the only comfortable way to conceal carry is a shoulder rig with a vertical holster. Traditional outside waistband holsters are definitely the most comfortable but they’re not concealed.
I carried in a shoulder holster for many years and still like it. I haven't carried in a shoulder holster for a few years but i was able to carry a full size Glock 21 in it with no problem at all qnd even a 6 inch 357 mag. But for about 10 years, I've carried strong side iwb for the last few years. I just hated having to train myself to draw two different ways. Domanite side iwb in the summer and shoulder holster in the winter, so i just made the move to domanite side carry.
U said some people would disagree,, well here you go. I bought the after market mags for my G43X bringing the cap from 10 to 15 from Shield Arms,, works wicked excellent and after 1500 rounds. I'd highly recommend it.
I appreciate You showing Your “over hang” to help Us not end up with a large box of holsters that do not cut it! I’ve been carrying daily for fifty years. IWB and OWB can be difficult. I got lucky finding my duty holster although there weren’t many choices because We carried revolvers. I’ve changed to concealed carry all the time. I have more belly than You and since I’m older, I don’t have a more “elastic” skin so whatever I carry will not be appendix. So.... I’m looking all over again. I know by first hand experience or by Brothers that are still working full time what to totally avoid. But I’m stacking some that won’t work in spite of this knowledge. My back is a nuclear disaster. Basically what You are going to be many years from now. Overweight, over hang, under funded and old and tired. I will let You know if I find THE holster that works for me. I appreciate You!
Most comfortable for me is the Essential Holsters "Naked Holster". I'm right -handed and use a left-handed one at 5:30 for palm-out draw. Not fast but discrete and I forget it's there. That or OWB leather belt slide, nice and tight to me at 3 o'clock. Anything else gets annoying after a while. A good belt like a Kore is a must.
the Only issue I have with Tulster is the Minute number of guns they make a holster for, part of what makes a company great is being able to get a holster that works for you, on a wide variety of guns
In my opinion for concealed carry, the classic shoulder holster is the best choice, but as for any carry options you need to dress for concealment first, if you refuse to wear anything but shorts and tank tops and flip flops, then you are automatically limited
I like that small kydex inside the waistband type holster you showed. The smaller the better. I had a small EDC handgun in a leather holster. While comfortable it would sometimes move when I walked a good deal. Kydex always holds its form, covers the trigger, usually adjustable. It's the way to go for me.
I use a Monarch Andrew Leather shoulder holster with cross draw right hand draw of my model 329PD. Off side four speed loader holster. It has a band that goes across my back to keep the shoulder holster from swinging forward when I bend over. Love mine.
My first holster for my first gun was a Blackpoint IWB for a P365XL. I tried carrying it per staff recommendation in the 5-6 position, and I found it was sagging my pants and generally uncomfortable and interfering, as well as hard to access. I switched it to a 2-3 position and it is extremely comfortable, more manipulatable, less interfering, and it is compatible with a stomach. All in all, the position makes a huge impact on the holster. Move yours around especially if it's a Kydex mounted on a flexible base, as mine is.
I use the Blackpoint with the wing when I need to appendix carry my p365. My only complaint is that the spring steel clip didn't always reliably clip to the bottom edge of my Kore Essentials belt, so I changed it out for soft loops with snaps.
Raven concealment vanguard 2 is a game changer. It's basically a trigger card but incredibly minimalist. Only downside is you have to take it off to reholster. I practice my draw with a different holster. Highly recommend.
Hey! If you're a bigger guy like me and kydex holsters irritate your skin or muffin top. I HIGHLY recommend picking up one of Uncle Mike's appendix holsters their outside is soft like fleece. I bought a size too large for my S&W bodyguard and slipped the kydex holster into it. Now it is a pleasure to wear each day AND drawstroke is not effected by the changes to the holster.
I easily have more than double what you've shown and I only use a handful of them. If theyr'e not comfortable or don't conceal well, they dont get used much. 1 other thing to mention is the holsters ability to cover the sharp edges or sharp stippling/checkering on the gun. Sometimes no holster will stop that particular gun from chewing up your side or belly. Sometimes this requires adding a set of talon rubber skins to the grip so the gun is comfortable to wear.
I prefer the urban carry g3 just because of the lack of printing alone. Once the leather gets broken in, it should be very comfortable but not in very tight pants, regular jeans like wrangler relaxed fit jeans would be perfect.
Very good video. I carry a SAR P8S. All steel.3.8" barrel,17+1 double stack mags. Very hard to find holsters for it. I ended up buying a 3 slot custom from Line Star Holsters in Texas. I have a leather shoulder holster that is also a paddle holster that works great strong side and some weak side. It's really a journey to find what you like. Thanks again for the great video.
I'm a fan of the IWB holster from Werkz. It comes with optics cut and taller sights...plus the wing. Retention is perfect out-of-the-box, for my P365 X-macro w/ TLR-7 Sub.
I’m a skinny guy(30” waist and no beer belly) The smallest pistol i have is g19, but i love carry full size one(hk p30l and ss p226) always carry appendix cause i’m so thin so pistol would not conceal on my side or even on my back side. Appendix is the only way that i can conceal it properly with a little bit of adjustment, a right pair of pants and belt. So mostly i carry appendix, most familiar and trained with. I also find shoulder holster very comfortable even though it a bit more difficult to access the pistol and the only position that i can carry is vertically, if i carry horizontally pistol will stick out both back and front even with a g19. Very helpful video by the way. ❤
I've carried for over 40 years on and off duty and a few deployments with the Army. I still love shoulder holsters, but only when I can wear a jacket of big shirt over it. I have boxes of holsters that didn't work, so several years ago I started making holsters based on what I like. For each pistol, I usaully have a few different holsters depending on how I'm dressed.
For what it's worth I tried two soft holsters , one for pocket and one a belly band . At least half the time when I got home and took the gun out the mag button had been pressed and mag was hanging out . i'm a slim guy and wear loose clothes but still happened . Decided to just stick with Kydex
I sit most of the day either in house chair or wheelchair. I find that a cross breed belly band or a sneaky pete holster work best and most comfortable for my situation. Although I have been trying out a jm4 tactical for my glock 19
My EDC has been JM4 Roughneck holster for a few years. Great and comfortable. Sneaky Pete has been my backup holster. Due to a 2nd back surgery, the waist holsters are causing pain. Now going to shoulder holster
Personally I carry IWB w a Tulster .. OWB Contour for my G19.3 and my 19x… Take the clips and turn them around… I’m 230 lbs 6’2” w a dad bod belly .. carry at about 2 o’clock and it’s perfect
I have been out of the concealed carry for several years. Just step back in an expensive sig In my research for a holster I would have to say this video it's pretty fair and honest thank you for that.
As a younger man back in the day I bought an Uncle Mike's shoulder rig for my S&W M59 because that's what all the TV detectives used. I've been nothing but happy with it over the years. I can't imagine driving for hours a day with a gun down the front of my pants. Much later my company forbade firearms anywhere on company property. Since quite a few cluck heads had been fired I felt that I was in more danger at work than walking down a dark street in town. So I tried an ankle rig similar to the one shown with a S&W Bodyguard .380 and I was golden. I frequently forgot I had it on when I got home from work. I turned it so that it rode under my calf muscle and with loose-legged jeans it was totally invisible. That's my two cents worth. Good content here. Keep it up !
I also have back trouble lower back trouble what I've done is I use those great big Lumberjack type suspenders I do not clip them to my gun belt I clip them to my blue jeans. I will wear a regular t-shirt or a not whether you know those what are they call those tank tops they have the straps go over your shoulder but they're open a lot more open than a regular t-shirt I'll wear one of those with these suspenders fashion to my jeans and then I were like covered garment some kind of shirt or jacket was some kind of pattern in the print that helps break up any printing that I might be doing but what happens with these suspenders is it equalizes the load and takes it off myself my waist and puts it on my shoulders I carry some of it on my waist. I'm telling you it's a god-sent the way you did it takes the pressure off my lower back
Thanks for a really thorough, no-holds-barred review of the different styles of holsters and the pluses and minuses. A lot of great information. One thing that would help: A few of the holsters, in the sections where you were talking about specific features and issues, you didn't mention the brand/model, or I really had to dig for it. If you could title the section for each holster, or mention the name, so I could hunt it down and buy it, that would be great! You were talking "this Kydex type" without the name and it was driving me crazy. At any rate, good rundown! Thanks again!
After going thru a bunch of different holsters for M&P Shield, I ended up settling on a Tulster Profile. In fact, I like it so much, that I bought another one in a different color. I bought one for the occasional carry of my full-size Beretta PX4. I also ended up buying the double metal clips and modwings to pull it in even closer and keep it more concealable than the standard plastic clips. Just a little bit more money but well worth it for comfort at 2 or 3 o'clock wearing. It's my EDC.
Great review. But the shoulder holster may be illegal in some states because it is pointing at people behind you when wearing it. Most people won't like being flagged either.
Tulster is excellent. Carried my LX's in a Tulster Contour. Now carrying my XM in the new Contour which only took about a month to release after the X-Macro was released. Only drawback is they won't do a straight-through open-end for comps. All my XLs now have XM lowers so they all work with the Contour - except the one with a Herrington Arms comp. Blackpoint's OWB for XM has a straight-thru end, slightly thicker kydex, more cant and has low-profile steel holster loops which really pull the weapon in high & tight against your side. The downside is they take a lot longer to ship when ordered. Think I'll get an Oath for the times I wear IAWB. Great video, thx.
Great information. You answered a lot of my questions. I have Arthritis and the holster design is very important to safety get access if I need my weapon. Thanks.
My usual go to is a modified pocket carry. I have some cargo shorts and pants where I've sewn a strap into the pocket so I can put a trigger cover with a belt clip on it, put it in so it hooks to the strap, and close the pocket. It holds the gun steady, doesn't keep me from bending or sitting, and makes it comfortable. Bonus is that the pocket is already at the same level as my arms length so it's easy access.
Personally, I have come to really enjoy Sticky Holsters which are not represented here but I felt should be mentioned. They aren’t for everyone but I love them. Living in Florida shoulder holsters are tough without wearing my biker cut which isn’t practical at the beach. Kydex holsters especially with a leather exterior are fantastic though. Once again excellent video dude very educational.
I have tried three different holsters. - CrossBreed Reckoning - Sticky Holster - Naked Holster I have an M&P M2.0 9C and like to appendix carry. I am a bit overweight. The CrossBreed is too bulky and stiff. Both the leather and Kydex are stiff materials. It pokes and jabs. The Sticky holster is the most comfortable. However, it does not have a belt clip so it tends to move around or fall. Not good. The Naked holster just covers the trigger and goes over your belt leaving your gun exposed to jabbing and poking you. It’s not adjustable either. I just ordered a leather holster from Muddy River Tactical that is similar to the Sticky but has a belt clip. It is made of soft leather. Hopefully it is comfortable. FYI…I cut that upper piece of leather off my CrossBreed Reckoning. It jabbed too much.
Ankle holster goes on the inside of the left leg if you're right handed. The girth and height of a cowboy boot plus the holster fills the pant leg too much, even if they're boot cut jeans. Wear a 6" workboot and the firearm will ride just beyond the boot and the pant leg will be way easier to lift up.
Went through many holsters and I've settled on 2 clip quality leather holster or Bluetac kydex holsters that are $25 and way better quality than others I've seen.
As I've said in previous videos, you sir are the reason I have the setup I do. Core belt, toaster profile, shield Plus. I drive a truck for a living and carry all day everyday
.. Have been carrying for many years ,, even many decades ... Full size and compacts,, primarily in shoulder holster ,, sub- compacts prefer OWB leather and micros in Remora pocket holster ... Have a variety of firearms with 2,3-4 holsters for each ,, so a trunkful is what it is ... Leather ,, Kydex ,, Many Belly Bands .. Leather jackets ,, vests with inside gun pockets ,, chest and fanny packs for backpacking and outdoor activities ...... seems when a new make/model comes out ,I see a feature I like ,but after receiving it I find reasons to not use them ...some crazy expensive ,, some inexpensive , but not as good quality leather , but work .......... some day going to have a yard sale and some folks are going to get holsters for crazy low prices ...
All my shoulder holsters are military style, vertical shoulder holsters. Been noticing many have horizontal shoulder holsters. All handguns I have are full size pistols or revolvers with 4" barrels or 5" barrels. My thinking is a vertical holster does not have a barrel printing under my left arm. I got accustomed to the M-7 holster sholder holster for the M-1911a1. Is there an advantage when carrying a horizontal hoster?
I just bought an IWB C&G holster for my M&P 10mm. It's a really good one I think. The wing has a slant, so it pushes the grip towards your body in two directions. You can barely see it just wearing a t-shirt. And wearing multiple layers it's invisible. I carry at 4 O'Clock.
one thing I really like about this video is you demonstrate why you personally dont like certain holsters. and that you stress its very subjective... I personally dont like Kydex for inside the waist line because hard plastic digs in and after hours of wearing it. you cant wait to take it off.... I like the pancke holster for comfort. a good majority of people will never have to draw their weapon unless they live in bad areas... so comfort should be a huge consideration. my brother rarely carries now... I personally think its because he has a uncomfortable holster... i tried talking him into a pocket pistol cause something is better than nothing,,,, but he dont listen to me...
as a Mobile mechanic I use the urban carry g3 all the time. it is great for when you want to carry and not spook people or accidentally show that you have a gun especially when you have to do a lot of different things for your job and be around a lot of people. yes it definitely takes a learning curve for drawing and shooting but I have my g48 with a light and a red dot and it works wonders. before that I had my 1911 and used the urban carry g2 and it worked great as well.
Best thing I’ve found in hot weather is to wear a under shirt tucked in with a short sleeve button shirt, unbuttoned over and untucked for shoulder carry
With a little bit of ingenuity some foam and a Dremel you can take one of those cheap Amazon holsters and make it your own. You don't need to spend 100 + on a holster. R&R holsters are one I found that have decent ones.
I bought a craft shoulder holster from craft and love it ! It is a vertical holster that pivots forward when drawing my Glock 19 . As you said I don’t get to wear it very often cause I live in southwest Florida! But there are days in winter that I can . It’s a little bulky under a jacket but who cares! Nobody ever notices it. Thanks for the vid 😊😊
Interestingly, I think the Crossbreed Reckoning is one of the more comfortable holsters for appendix carry... and I'm pretty chunky. Less rigid than the Gunfighters Inc. Wraith IWB and has two clips (the Wraith has fallen off my belt a couple times, which is less than ideal). I am also a huge fan of the Vedder Pocket Locker. The DeSantis Nemesis and DeSantis Sof-Tuck lack the retention I like, but they are good for the price. Recently tested the Mission First Minimalist and it was okay.
I'm pretty much Vedder on all of my IWB holsters. Other than the screws wanting to back out often, which requires some locktite, it's a solid, affordable option.
I have a Crossbreed but without the msg holder. I carry at 4 o’clock. I have zero problems with sweat or drawing. My only issue is re-holstering it. It’s still my favorite holster for summers in Texas - hot and often humid. Winters I carry my M-9 in a shoulder holster.
I got a shoulder holster purely for posture and back pain reasons. It's great for reminding you to stand straight, and you CAN'T slouch with it strapped behind your shoulders. It's what I'll use, and having a purpose beyond a holster makes me choose it when I otherwise wouldn't carry. It's what I will use, and I value my jewels and guts, so avoid a belt. It's restrictive for some everyday movements, things far in front of or below you with both hands, and better hope you don't have to tie your shoe, but nothing is better for on-person carry in a car. People will definitely make fun of you, they see it as you trying to be Colombo, but it works and is comfortable, had some specific use cases where it reigns supreme - they're awesome and everyone should at least give them a try. They have elastic and fabric ones anymore if you need full movement. I hide it under a jacket and wear a belt if wearing just a shirt. People say it's bad as you might sweep across civilians when aiming to the baddie, but if you feel the holster is what's gonna kill someone you have the wrong gun, training, or something ain't right. There is no reason it would misfire any more than any other holster option.
Thanks for your solid input with this video. I made an order because of it. We have a similar build and frame. I, too, am a minimalist. I just want a holster to carry that will secure my firearm, that’s comfortable, and is adjustable. You demonstrated everything I am looking for. Thanks again.
Vedder for me, so far. I don’t wanna blow money buying 10,000 different brands of holsters all day but Ive had 5 different brands holsters for my pistols leather, cloth & kydex, vedder is the one i come back to nobodys clip comes close to them in my opinion their own clip, unless the holster has a ulticlip option. The clip is damn near more important than the holster material for me lol. I don’t like big ass padded holsters that cover half your leg & with giant sweat shields
I LOVE MY VEDDER LIGHT TUCKS. Got one for my SHIELD PLUS 9MM AND SHIELD 45ACP!! Did you see the new VEDDER HOLSTER. It's a LIGHT TUCK w/ MAG HOLSTER connected to it. Looks FANTASTIC!!!
I *love* my Urban Carry holster in certain situations and types of clothing. You need a good gun belt, but with the right pants (even cargo shorts) you get zero printing and a very fast draw that presents the weapon very close to a ready-to-aim position with this holster. The only disadvantage is no integrated extra mag pocket. And sometimes a knowledgeable and observant fellow concealed carrier will recognize the tell-tale leather foldover in the front. My other holster (and my overall favorite) is a VNSH holster. It deeply conceals my trusty old Taurus GX4 in everything from a tux to gym shorts and even swim trunks, even with one of the mag pockets occupied by a mag. It's also very versatile. It can emulate a shoulder holster if the cold weather clothing or suit jacket clothing permits it, although I almost always carry appendix. I've tried other brands of bellyband holsters and they come to pieces after a few weeks of use. I have yet to find a Kydex holster that lets me totally forget I'm even carrying a gun. I put on my VNSH when I get dressed and wear it until I get undressed to retire at night. I almost always position it for a sub-second draw, but when the situation calls for it, and at the cost of a couple seconds of access time, I can conceal it not just IWB, but below the belt to the point where only a patdown, a hernia exam or a metal detector would give anyone a clue I'm carrying. If I'm wearing something with an elastic band like gym shorts, I don't even sacrifice any draw time since I can pull away the elastic waistband of the shorts instantly. My wife loves her VNSH holster because, with most of her outfits, a gun belt would look ridiculously out of place and be uncomfortable. Furthermore, the VNSH allows her to position her S&W CSX micro-9 wherever it will conceal best. No one outside of my own family knows I carry constantly, nor would they ever guess. And that's exactly the way I want it.
So glad I stumbled onto this video. I just completed my ccw course. I am a thin, small framed female. Not large busted so everything seems to print on me! I've returned quite a few holsters. I have a HCP OSP w/factory red dot and a Glock 17. Also have a Sig p238 and its very hard to find a holster to fit with the factory Crimson Trace laser. Mainly interested in a IWB holster for the HC and Glock.
The right Setup is the ONE your will Use Every Day Mine is a Leather Cross Draw, Yes Cross Draw why Simple When I sit in the truck it sits over my leg and out of the way When I am out and walking it is like it is not even there
I’ve also gone through about every holster on the market. My EDC is a ruger LC9s. Because of my body type (I’m a big guy) appendix carry is simply too uncomfortable for me. I’ve tried several…. The phlster enigma being my most recent. They all are hard to draw, dig in to my stomach, and print like crazy. What works for me is an aliengear shapeshifter carried at 3:30.. very comfy, no printing, quick draw, good for summer or winter. It seems that my body’s sweet spot is slightly before or after my right hip. The spare mag is in a sticky sleeve in back left pocket….YMMV. Loved your video. As you said, body types and carry methods vary a lot from person to person. You gotta find what works for you.
Right there with you. I carry the same, but just throw it in my front pocket. Iwb holsters I've used dig in a little and once I do find the comfy spot, it's not so comfy sitting. Maybe I wear my belt too tight, idk? Lol So pocket it is with 2 spare mags near by.
@@stevemalone6012 I have the Taurus GX4 w/ optic and found that the Vedder Holsters Pocket Locker really makes a nice pocket carry option. With the extra 'padding' around the waist, I just haven't found an IWB that's comfortable. I have gotten the Urban Carry G3 but still breaking that in.
I would like to hear comments on OWB, inside the belt carry. Using a slender Kydex holster designed for IWB carry is very secure when carried in this manor. Printing through a shirt is basically the same as IWB carry but more comfortable because there's more fabric between the holster and body. May be a little inconvenient getting into the front or back pocket, depending on where it's carried but it may be faster to handle. With a quality gun belt, it's just as secure. You need to be a little more diligent about keeping it out of sight but there's a trade off in every carry position.
Glad to finally see someone with an honest take on the Crossbreed Reckoning. I've been using it for almost 2 years and I hate it. I can't wait to switch to something smaller that's all kydex. In addition to everything you mentioned, it also has a tendency to cause pretty noticeable printing at the bottom of the grip unless you're wearing a baggy shirt or a cover garment. I hear they come with a claw now that addresses that issue, but mine didn't. I'll probably switch the Reckoning over to OWB when I get a decent appendix holster, so I can at least still get some use out of it.
I've heard it's better to have themag release covered by the holster so it doesn't get accidently released throughout the day while you are moving around.
Yea I have an exo paladin holster for both my g19 and g43. It keeps just enough of the mag release covered so you don't get an accidental mag drop. But if you have it in hand you can kinda get a fingertip between the plastic and the mag release to drop the mag Kinda like hard for you to lose it accidentally but still accessible while being holstered
I bought the Tulster on your recommendation. The plastic clip doesn't hold my belt very well when I draw. I had to loosen the retention more than i wanted to. Other than that it worked good. Not great.
I have spent a lot of money on about 20 holsters over the years for my Glock 19 and 26 !! Most I like some I don’t it depends a lot where on your waist you wear it! Good vid, thanks
I use the Safariland ALS holster for all of my handguns. I don’t care if it prints due to the fact a high percentage of people are oblivious to their surroundings. It’s nothing fancy but has level 1 retention. I will not change either because they are the best OWB holsters on the market. You get what you pay for.
I love my aliengear IWB shape shift holster for my m&p 2.0 full size. Distributes the weight and greatly lessens the bulge/print. For my 1911 leather all the way.
I have a Stealthgear that is extremely comfortable. Its a bit big and has 2 belt clips, so it takes a little work to put it on. If you are going to carry far a while then it is definitely worth the work and cost. For just a few hours I use a quick and easy We The People.
The problem is that they are always way behind the curve when new guns are released. Often 8 months to a year before they release holsters that other manufacturers released in a month or so.
@@daveandrews5998 I just bought some kydex and made my own inserts, for every gun that I have. It is pretty easy to do and cheap compared to buying the complete holster.
I used we the people for yrs, until recently when my firearm actually fell out of the holster while existing vehicle, the tension failed. That is a huge no, not only the damage to gun but what if it had gone off etc etc, this could have turned into a life altering event for not only myself but an innocent life and family. We the people would nit replace the holster and didn't seem to take my complaint seriously whatsoever. I recently ordered a ailen gear shapeshift so we'll see how that is, I like the option of switching between several different firearms and different carrying potions, I have a leather Foxx iwb holster for my shield which I love and it holds great. Sucks cause I loved my wtp until that happened and it's not something I'm willing to ever let possibly happen again so they've lost me as a customer .
I carry in one of two ways. Either Inside the waistband or shoulder holster. I choose not to do outside the waistband because I don’t want to risk too much printing and it accidentally getting seen when reaching for something on the shelf at a store or bending down to get something. I just absolutely say no to ankle holsters because of the way someone could hold your leg down in the event of a fight because then you couldn’t get to your gun if needed. For me appendix carry is just uncomfortable for me all the way around, but that’s just me. Appendix carry might be very comfortable for another person. For me inside the waistband and shoulder holsters fix all of those issues for me and make it very comfortable to the extreme to carry. With a shoulder holster I highly recommend getting one where it will rotate out slightly in order to draw easier. Please reply if you want recommendations of brands that are good and I can put a link.
Looking for a good quality shoulder holster. Not concerned about price. Just quality. Sig P320. Or willing to buy another good brand of gun, I am on the safety team at church and wear a suit and would love to find a good shoulder holster. Thank you!
Lots of fudd and tacticool mall ninja holsters there. The only two acceptable ways to carry are appendix and strong side 3/4 o’clock. Hybrid holsters like crossbreed are a no-go due to being potentially unsafe. Kydex is objectively the best.
Yeah no, I bought one for my kimber micro9 not worth it, did not feel right on my hip so I ended up going back to my crossbreed super tuck holster; good video, very informative.
T1 Concealed Agis Elite for my compact 17rnd S&W because the quick removal mag attachment is great. I use Alien Arms for my S&W shield plus, great holster both have mid rise sweat guard and both are kydex carried AIWB. Good stuff Heg🤘
I've found losing 5lbs or 10lbs to eliminate muffin top waist line makes the biggest difference for all holsters.
I got to lose about 70
I gotta loose at least 30
I did that for appendix carry.
I hate how correct you are. 🤦🏻♂️
Very true, but what about something for while person x is trying to loose said weight.
@Robert Austin My 2 favorite holsters are an older Galco Jackass rig and a neoprene belly band holster. The latter for summer clothes, works great.
Try a vertical shoulder holster. Masters Holster makes nice shoulder rigs that aren’t super expensive.
Dude, the reason I love your channel is because you say what you think, and you don't give a $hit what other people think! Your take on the crazy hidden holster thing was perfect. If it works, it's safe, and someone will help someone actually carry, all good. Who cares what other people think. Great video.
A carry license is a license to spend a bunch of money on holsters. Most of which end up in a box or drawer when you fine the one that works for you.
But I'd much rather shoot at anything over 7 yards and moving with my 19
By "sub compact" what size do you mean? What make/model of gun did you switch to, to give me an idea?
@@shawnshipstad2184 WOOOO! I JUST SAVED A BUNCH OF MONEY BY SWITCHING MY CAR INSURANCE TO GEICO!
Galco Jackass rig is the my favorite.
Getting to a shoulder holster inside of a jacket, in a crisis situation, is at least easier than getting to a gun that you own that’s at home and next to your sock drawer.
I’ve worn the shoulder holster for years. The same one you show only because it’s easy to get to and the snap is much better than Velcro.
@@tyronepelfrey8192 hi. What is the brand and model of this leather shoulder holster?
Carried for over 35 years , on an off duty. I have purchased all the fads over the years. Always end up with hip carry, in the waste or on out side at 3 or 4 o’clock. Mags on the other side .
Same here.
i THINK YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD, WHEN YOU SAID" WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE YOU CARRY".
Dude I just went through a huge tote full of holsters . Small fortune in there
I looked at holsters for days and ended up using a cheap pocket holster inside a cheap non firearm related fanny pack.
Restaurants can't even clean menus anymore. I'm not trying a holster after 300 people tried appendix for the first time.
@@kellym3531 I never carry appendix so that doesn't concern me
I bought an Urban Carry holster a few years ago and use it a lot during the winter when I'm wearing thicker pants and I don't have to worry about being too hot.
At 8:17 “I feel like that extra material gets in the way of my draw.” Couldn’t tell if you were talking about the holster or the belly…😂😂😂
Was dealing with this issue lately, I usually carry IWB but this irritates my psiatic nerve when carrying my full size BRG 9mm (16+1). Just got a belly band holster to keep the weight off of my gun belt, and this makes a big difference 👍👍
I can't work with a Bellyband every gun I've tried it with, the gun climbed out of it and fell on the ground. Great for spare cash though.
I am 5’7” and 230 so I print with everything I have found or tried a couple years ago I bought a sneaky Pete holster! Now I carry everyday running my belt through the loops secures the holster to my body! It looks like a cellphone case it works great for me!
I'm 5'6 @ 145lbs, and have the same issue. My smaller frame makes it really hard to conceal when it's hot here in NC.
@@gizmobuddy805 What do you use? We are nearly the same size.
Or have your wife or dog carry it for you, and keep them close!
yeah, i actually use it on my kydex i use for 6 o'clock (lefty). made it pretty comfortable on my boney hips
That Sounds Like an Excellent Idea, THANK YOU !!
I loved this video
Usually you’re shooting with the wife, but to take the time to go over conceal carry options as thoroughly as you did…. Awesome job!!
1) You were hilariously spot on
2) Showed zero concern for showing off the “dad bod”
3) Explained the where and why as though I was the one modeling the carry option.
I totally agree. I carry with a shoulder holster with a sport coat.
Shoulder carry is really underrated especially if you carry a big gun.
I carry my right-hand ankle holster on the inside of my left leg. You don’t have to worry about knocking into things
This is by far my favorite video of yours. The visual age really help drive the point home
Love mine.
Nice
@@raletky If I didn't like McDonalds so much, I'd try appendix lol!
Highly recommend the Enigma from Philster
LOVE my shoulder holster Leather, I get a little more time in the North to carry this way.
OWB Contour for my G19.3 and my 19x…
Take the clips and turn them around…
I’m 230 lbs 6’2” w a dad bod belly ..
carry at about 2 o’clock and it’s perfect
I have been out of the concealed carry for several years.
Just step back in an expensive sig
In my research for a holster I would have to say this video it's pretty fair and honest thank you for that.
Hegshot is right up there with content that MOST FOLKS would be interested in.
Thanks again!
... and a price range for each
After going thru a bunch of different holsters for M&P Shield, I ended up settling on a Tulster Profile.
- CrossBreed Reckoning
- Sticky Holster
- Naked Holster
I have an M&P M2.0 9C and like to appendix carry.
Got to love the G-48!
Craft holsters are great. I have two of their owb holsters for my Beretta 92 and p229. Excellent quality. They also make really nice gun belts.
I use a Vedder light tuck for a G19.
It's a kydex adjustable kant. It's comfortable and has good retention.
Same here.
Same here!!!
I'm pretty much Vedder on all of my IWB holsters. Other than the screws wanting to back out often, which requires some locktite, it's a solid, affordable option.
I'm a Vedder guy for my Kydex needs. Depending on the gun I also like a good leather holster.
I used the Urban Carry G3 for a while. For the life of my I could not draw from a seated position. Made it a no-go for me so I sold it.
Shoulder holsters are great options for people who spend a lot of time behind the wheel imo...
My most comfortable carry is a Smith 442 in a Alabama holster in my pant pocket.
@@unclecracker5010 i saw. Lightuck is definitely my favorite as well
I'm almost embarrassed to say how many holsters I've bought and thrown away over the years. My one comfort is knowing I'm not the only one.
Lol my wife just yelled at me last night actually; "how many of these goddamn things do you need?! You dont even use them all!"
Being kinda new to this I've already wasted a good chunk of change on popular holsters that I hated!
Been there, lol.
My biggest complaint with my oath holster for my x macro from Tulster is sometimes that clip works to well and it is a real pain to take off 🤣
The right Setup is the ONE your will Use Every Day
Mine is a Leather Cross Draw, Yes Cross Draw
why
Simple
When I sit in the truck it sits over my leg and out of the way
When I am out and walking it is like it is not even there
Tier 1 concealed holsters have been the most comfortable kydex option I’ve found. Add in the Alias system it’s really nice.
@@AndrewHargreave I'll have to check that out. Thanks
A shoulder holster is one of my favorite ways to carry. Yes, it is rough when it’s hot out but during the winter, that’s all I use.
The "Claw" also prevents the holster from collapsing due to belt tension. (Like flattening out and making it too difficult to draw and reholster)
I love iwb with a claw
I use the urban carry G3 and it's awesome. It's super comfortable and super discreet. No one would guess that you have a gun
I've heard it's better to have themag release covered by the holster so it doesn't get accidently released throughout the day while you are moving around.
Yea I have an exo paladin holster for both my g19 and g43. It keeps just enough of the mag release covered so you don't get an accidental mag drop. But if you have it in hand you can kinda get a fingertip between the plastic and the mag release to drop the mag
Kinda like hard for you to lose it accidentally but still accessible while being holstered
Exactly, my problem as well. Losing some that waist fat made all the difference.
Miami Classic under a button up shirt is great. I'll loose a few buttons if needed.
Thank you!
@@importdoc7 Craft Holsters or Black Hills Leather are good brands.
@@1watersthree thank you Micheal. I will check them out. Thanks for the quick response.
@@importdoc7 You’re welcome.
I have the same exact setup on both of those pistols . Did recently start carrying my shield in a agis slim, not bad.
