The new Duster looks great, a big improvement over the 2nd generation. Unfortunately, due to the ECO standards, it is hard to miss the absence of two excellent engines, 1.5 dci 115 and 1.3 tce 150.
Yes, we have a one year old duster prestige model with the 1.5 dci 115 engine that gives us an average of 54mpg on combined driving which we are very pleased with. This engine should be good for well over 100,000 miles too I would imagine. Shame this engine has been discontinued with the new model.
So far Dacias were sensible cars for competitive price. No thrills, previous gen. Renault parts conglomerate. This is the first time in their history where it finally is about the looks and smart justification of rugged materials. The final result is a fresh, coherent design with enough styling gimmicks to look designed but still cut down on luxuriousness to retain the strict price range. Altogether this is a very competitive package where the design is just spot on. PS BMW, VW I'd be worried if I were you.
Love it one of the best looking SUV on the market. Stick a Land Rover badge on it and it wold sell for 3 times the price. Recently moved over to a Duster and would now never go back to the over priced tech driven junk from other manufacture.
Dacia seems to go into the opposite direction compared to BMW, in terms of design. So much better looking while also keeping the design language of the predecessor, unlike BMW new models which fail at both tasks.
Like the reviewer says, I came from 22 years of having Audis, to buying a Journey spec Duster in May this year. I love it but wish I'd gone for the 4x4 as I do a lot of driving on farm tracks in winter. I didn't as I did not want a diesel. So I'm seriously tempted by the mild hybrid 4x4 new model. Looks great.
I remember being rather impressed by the previous model Dacia Duster when i had it as a hire car on holiday. Had all the kit it needed including climate control, parking cameras and sat nav. It was a fun little car. Couldnt fault it
Also dacia has: - no soundprof - no stability over 100 km/h - shitty clutch that makes your car shaking when you are starting (At least on car with manual transmission)
@@ivanh9567The one I drove was quiet, did over 140km/h on Polish motorways without issue and was smooth as silk. Maybe the one you had was just a lemon? It happens.
Very thorough and comprehensive review. These cars are a brilliant mix of sensible design at even more sensible prices. Dacia are the new Skoda ...so buy now before they start costing more.
Don't now much about the car company Dacia itself, but the vehicle actually looks pretty good inside and out, even has a hybrid engine. So you have to ask, if a relatively unknown car company can make it this affordable, how much are mainstream companies price gouging it's consumers.
@@geogeo6657 Take a deep breathe mate. EU is not the world. I had to google Dacia to find that Renault brought out Dacia, a Romanian motor company. When I say "mainstream car companies" I mean Audi, Toyotas, Ford etc, which are pretty much known world wide. It was not meant as an insult if you happen to own a Dacia, I think that many other car companies can take note of Dacia pricing and good looking offerings.
Great car, looks like such an upgrade, I would definitely own one, I think it looks great and quite smart, very European. Thomas, we love you for delivering such great reviews and especially for cars that we actually buy.
I always liked how rugged the Duster looked, even on the first gen but then Dacia did a great job with the 2nd gen and with now they kicked it out of the park. Great car!
This is what people really want . This is what automotive OEM should have focused on instead of the silly EV plan . More basic cars , lighter cars, smaller ICE engines with optimized consumptions , but keeping smart ADAS systems selling at reasonable prices and looking cool . They would have sold like crazy . THIS is the real future (perhaps with hydrogen conversions in future or suntethic petrol) but let’s all forget at silly EV, the bubble is about to burst soon . Bravo Renault !!
I am Romanian and I am really proud of what the design team has accomplished with this model, I am looking forward to test drive the 1.6L Hybrid as soon as possible :)
Really interesting, good looks, no unessential electronic gimmicks, nice door sounds... Looking forward to watch that test-drive, and know more details on the hybrid-drive unit.
The most common 4x4 I see here in the German/Austrian alps are the Dacia Duster, Lada 4x4, Jeep and Land Rover Defender. They use these cars all year, in all conditions and though each come at very different prices they are each surely proven. Ram trucks are also picking up in popularity here. The Ineos Grenadier is also starting to grow its presence.
Sadly, we don't get to buy this really great bargain here in the USA. So annoying that these lower end cars never make it to the USA. we get stuck with only the expensive stuff. There are only a few vehicles below 30k that I can think of in the USA: Nissan Versa, Ford Maverick. This would sell like hotcakes here.
The price is competitive - but also shows how much car prices have risen. I had a new mid spec Duster in 2018 - cost £13,000. Now looks like the equivalent latest model will be nearer £20,000! An increase of more than 50% in 5 years...... Still - a decent car and real buttons 😃 - well done Dacia.
I had in family Dacia since 80's...and still have an MCV which was run 200 k km only on bad roads...and still run right...also a Duster 1 with 700 k km and a second Duster with 140 k km.
1. Omg why can’t every French car be designed like a Romanian one 2. Skoda and Dacia should merge. This would create a megavalue car brand that would instantly cause implosion of the universe due to its unbearable greatness quotient
Really like it. Great design and much improved. Only thing that stands out as weird to me are the rounded mirrors. Would be much better in the same, squared look. (I really like my own old Forester ones which are a bit higher too and really emphasize the rugged character.) p.s. Also thank you so much for actually measuring the cargo area depth. Wish every reviewer would do that!
Loved the car and the presentation. I just hope when renault launches it in India as duster they dont commit the same mistakes as they did in the past. A pretty strong product for the Indian market. Lots of love from India ❤
I think this is the first video with a Dacia model that you have,i ve been watching your videos since 2016,i m happy that you choose our romanian model. All the best!Lucian, from Romania.
Again a perfect review Thomas. My father in law has a 2 year old full spec duster, and this Duster will be our next car for sure. So much reliable and nice to drive car for the money! Again Thomas thanks!😊
I noticed before I checked in for this review about 24 hours after the review had been released that this review already had over 105k views. The recent RAV4 review here of three days ago as of writing had about a third of that for views. I think both Leia (spelling?) and Thomas are right to spot the importance of a cheaper car done really well. In the long run what is done to make cheap cars good matters much more than premium exotica where money is no object - except perhaps to show much of it you can waste. This Dacia seems of the spirit of a 1970s Mini or 2CV - fun, affordable, and yes, stylish.
The Suzuki Jimny 5-door is probably the best budget SUV (about 20,881.79 EUR), but it is very hard to get one due to the high demand. Not for Europe, though. For the price, that Dacia looks pretty decent!
This is going to be a bestseller among Ukrainian farmers. Thanks to our Romanian neighbors for finally making it look cool! 🇷🇴🇺🇦 Not a word about diesel engines though?!🤔
@@Don_PuparoSo? You can ride a diesel for the next 20/25 years at least, there ain't no Tesla Supercharger on farms or fields. Diesel is everywhere, the tractors run on it.
It doesn't look cheap at all. Exterior is really nice and interior is solid and functional. There are plenty of expensive cars that look incredibly cheap inside with no knobs and buttons, only a large tablet on the dashboard.
Dacia changing the logo was the right direction. This car is definitely miles better than the last one design-wise. I also hope they made the crash test safety higher.
Always loved Dacia along with Suzuki. So few companies built simple cars for ordinary people who live in the country. This Duster however seems to be geared to the 'lifestyle' market (as if that's not obsessed about by every other manufacturer.) I hope Dacia's business plan is not to move upmarket. If so, then who will build simple, cheap cars? Apparently nobody. And yet still they wonder why their businesses are under threat from Chinese competition.
I really like these basics car personally, the features craze never does makes sense to me. I don't need a computer to turn on lights or the wiper for me, when it's a matter of a touch.

The new Duster looks great, a big improvement over the 2nd generation.
Unfortunately, due to the ECO standards, it is hard to miss the absence of two excellent engines, 1.5 dci 115 and 1.3 tce 150.
The 1.5 dci is one of the best reliable engine ever made by Renault. A work horse engine. It will be missed by many believe me.
@@sorinsrn5442no 1.5 dci is a deal breaker for me...i have 350 000 km on my Dokker and not a single problem
@@sorinsrn5442ii simt lipsa doar romanii saraci ca tine
Yes, we have a one year old duster prestige model with the 1.5 dci 115 engine that gives us an average of 54mpg on combined driving which we are very pleased with. This engine should be good for well over 100,000 miles too I would imagine. Shame this engine has been discontinued with the new model.
@@markstockton6918it'll be good for over 200k if looked after. Plenty of taxis with over 200k still going strong 👍
I really appreciate you took your time to research how to pronounce Dacia correctly. Much love from Romania.
Dacia seems to go into the opposite direction compared to BMW, in terms of design. So much better looking while also keeping the design language of the predecessor, unlike BMW new models which fail at both tasks.
Yes, the new model looks good. The big negative point is the removal of a reliable diesel engine and the introduction of the 3-cylinder petrol engine…
Couldnt fault it
Also dacia has:
- no soundprof
- no stability over 100 km/h
- shitty clutch that makes your car shaking when you are starting (At least on car with manual transmission)
@@ivanh9567The one I drove was quiet, did over 140km/h on Polish motorways without issue and was smooth as silk. Maybe the one you had was just a lemon? It happens.
satnav in 2023? who still uses that???
@@ivanh9567If you need sound-proofing, you can add it. For those who do not: you get a cheaper, lighter car
@@Don_PuparoIt's a nice box to tick on the options especially on a budget car.
Very thorough and comprehensive review.
These cars are a brilliant mix of sensible design at even more sensible prices.
Dacia are the new Skoda ...so buy now before they start costing more.
Thanks 🙏
Once again wishing we got these in the States. Looking better than ever!
The Duster looks better than new BMW X2 😢
Don't now much about the car company Dacia itself, but the vehicle actually looks pretty good inside and out, even has a hybrid engine. So you have to ask, if a relatively unknown car company can make it this affordable, how much are mainstream companies price gouging it's consumers.
This car is the biggest selling SUV in Europe for private buyers
dacia is not an unknown car manufacturer !!! ... have hudge sales in europe and all over world !!! ... is unknown by you ... !!!
Great car!
Dacia did a great job. It is quite clear that this model will be a huge market success.
This is the best version to date, looks much like the Bigster concept. Really great styling, I love the looks.
Dacia is on the roll! This is a great design. Bravo România!
5:26 DeLorean Logo with a missing central M. 6:01 The Flux Capacitor was a Y design. The designers were probably fans of the movie Back to the Future.
DeLorean builder had also Romanian origins...
I wouldn't mind going "downmarket" for this car; it looks good and as usual is great value for money!
Brilliant design by Laurens & team. Stance, surfacing, details. Spot on. Interior & connectivity a giant leap forward. Bring it on!
le responsable design Dacia c'est David Durand celui qui a dessiné le concept car koleos et Ellipse.Un designer pur jus Renault.,😉
Hope this comes to Canada, this will fill the Jimny void
Nicely designed without the over styling most manufacturers are doing now 😖 very very refreshing 😊
Toyota Corolla Cross is also offered as cheap entry version in the US
Try to buy from Mexico.Renault built this cars there i think!
It is also the inflation, buddy. It shows how much power our currencies lost …
short answer: yes
long answer: definetlyyyyy yesssssssss
The first review in history to document the sound of rubbing your hand on the seat. You are the best, Thomas 👍
Thanks so much! 🙏 please share our channel / videos 😎
I had in family Dacia since 80's...and still have an MCV which was run 200 k km only on bad roads...and still run right...also a Duster 1 with 700 k km and a second Duster with 140 k km.
Finally a new car that makes sense
Front look 10/10,rear 8/10. Beautiful car!
man this is so much stylish and more suv looking
A car for the times, and it looks 10x better than any Renault pretentious garbage. The hold my beer comment from Thomas is EPIC:
1. Omg why can’t every French car be designed like a Romanian one
2. Skoda and Dacia should merge. This would create a megavalue car brand that would instantly cause implosion of the universe due to its unbearable greatness quotient
I have a Jogger, which is okay for the price. But this one looks really desirable and another step up from the previous models.
Really like it. Great design and much improved. Only thing that stands out as weird to me are the rounded mirrors. Would be much better in the same, squared look. (I really like my own old Forester ones which are a bit higher too and really emphasize the rugged character.)
p.s. Also thank you so much for actually measuring the cargo area depth. Wish every reviewer would do that!
damn this car is... jsut about as much car as anyone needs. i'd easily live with this.
Loved the car and the presentation.
I just hope when renault launches it in India as duster they dont commit the same mistakes as they did in the past.
A pretty strong product for the Indian market.
Lots of love from India ❤
Thanks 🙏
Among the car reviewers, Thomas is one of the best! I love his calm, funny and down to earth style. I will keep on watching his reviews!
James May has entered the chat
wow.. great job Dacia..best car for the price!
We Indians are waiting for this, we got Renault duster way back, it's out of the market, but now we guys are waiting for this
BMW should learn from Dacia how to design a good looking car
I think this is the first video with a Dacia model that you have,i ve been watching your videos since 2016,i m happy that you choose our romanian model. All the best!Lucian, from Romania.
Looks better than my Tiguan is some aspects.
A reckon they nailed the design , it has few shortcomings but all in all not bad al all 👌
@Volskwagen and @Volvo: look, 4 commands for the windows for the driver! In a budget car. It is feasible.
Great job Thomas
Really cool idea with the attachments. Makes it super versatile and more fun. Really good car at that price point
Again a perfect review Thomas. My father in law has a 2 year old full spec duster, and this Duster will be our next car for sure. So much reliable and nice to drive car for the money! Again Thomas thanks!😊
Cheers m8 😎
Very nice looking and the new U clip accesories are very useful and customizable and practical, very nice overall!
Not a word about diesel engines though?!🤔
2023 bro....
@@Don_PuparoSo? You can ride a diesel for the next 20/25 years at least, there ain't no Tesla Supercharger on farms or fields. Diesel is everywhere, the tractors run on it.
Great design, AND PHYSICAL BUTTONS!❤
It looks great. However this with something like 2.0l engine, 4x4 from either bmw or vw and automatic would be perfect.
It doesn't look cheap at all. Exterior is really nice and interior is solid and functional. There are plenty of expensive cars that look incredibly cheap inside with no knobs and buttons, only a large tablet on the dashboard.
This one is a great looking car. Feels like Volvo XC40
Bye bye Skoda. This car is so much better.
Dacia changing the logo was the right direction. This car is definitely miles better than the last one design-wise. I also hope they made the crash test safety higher.
Yada yada, let’s get to the nitty gritty. Would you buy it?
Çok güzel araç,
- ekonomik fiyat
- iyi tasarım
- yeterli kalite
Well done Dacia and thank you Thomas, you are the best!
Yeah but even the chinese people are complaining about the chinese cars😂 and not everyone want an ev car
Omg 😮 the design looks absolutely stunning
Dacia Duster looking futuristic!
Dacia is doing an awesome job lately. Cant wait for the Bigster. This might shake up the market. That was an insane and thoughtful presentation. 👍
Thanks 🙏
Now duster looks cool 😎
This will sell like Schnitzel! ❤
I like this reviewer. He's a gentleman . Almost a British royalty. It's a contrast to Matt from car wow
thanks, please recommend !
Great car, cool design. Reasonable and practical .I think this is was people need and want if they are not buying the badge. Well done Dacia!
I really like these basics car personally, the features craze never does makes sense to me. I don't need a computer to turn on lights or the wiper for me, when it's a matter of a touch.
Well, automatic lights is mandatory in Europe. 😊
But I understand what you mean.
incredible car with incredible specs at a very nice nice price!
