  • Weight is very important in the golf swing. It allows you to feel the club head and can be a help or hinderance in your swing.
Which shaft weight should you be playing?

You should test shafts with an average golfes. Elite golfers can hit any weight of shaft

Good info. I wonder if its the swing weight thats helping with control. Would be interesting to see you take a sub 100gram or 105 gram and swing weight it to the d6.5 thats in the pings.

Would like to see a few obviously low weights in there, 95g-110g etc just to see the idea of how the flights are truly effected. I'm not a good golfer or pure ball striker by any means. But I play Reg 95g's and think its fucking me over. I feel my swing speed is high enough for a Stiff but think I need a 105-110g iron. Even when I'm hitting well my flight is rarely straight, I hit baby Draws and Hooks, can be 5 yards to 15 yards left. Never know what I'm going to get.

There are so many factors at play but most likely stiffer and heavier will be better. For reference my 7 iron ss is around 95. When I got back into golf I didn't know anything about flex and weight and got everything in reg flex. I pretty much couldn't hit driver it was all duck hooks and irons I hit huge racking draw/hooks. Eventually I moved into some ap1 irons with 120g kbs tour stiff shafts. Helped alot hit a tighter draw or push. Recently my irons needed replaced so I got some ap2 irons with 130g kbs tour c taper x stiff shafts. With this combo I now hit a controlled fade and it is soo nice. Also recently got fit for a driver with a 60g project x denali black x flex shaft.
It's crazy to think that I spent more time than I'd like to admit in high 90's low 100's because I was in the complete wrong equipment for my ss. People can say it doesn't make that much of a difference but it makes a huge difference. I now shoot mid 80's.

Honestly, I can't tell a difference in performance when I try different shaft weights. Weight seems to be similar to graphite vs. steel preference. People that like light want less work and feedback from light graphite. People that love good feedback want heavy steel shafts. I do see heavier shafts shallowing more, and that may help some, but ultimately its a comfort decision, not a performance decision.

But flex is as important if you want distance.
