Does Shaft Profile Matter?

Hello viewers! We are trying to get Ian into some new iron shafts. He has been playing golf where he will hit most greens or no greens. We have concluded that he needs a little but lighter weight and something that kicks with his swing.

I’m playing the $-Taper 120gStiff shafts in my irons and love them. KBS Tour V 125g Wedge shafts in two of my wedges. BGT ZNE 130g shaft in my 60 degree wedge.

Is this something that you're able to fit for in a single fitting session? How do you go about getting the right head then shaft, when the shaft could be changing how each head works? It seems like you'd already have to have an idea of what head you wanted to use.

We don't like Ian. Bring Trent back. Well, we don't dislike Ian. He's a good guy. He just represents a tiny segment of the golf population at his skill level and speed and it is just not relative to most of us. Trent represents the majority of golfers.

How would you rate Weight vs profile in terms of importance?
I played Nippon 950gh (s - 98gram) for years with a 7 iron ss of 92mph, loved the feel even though they went really short (166 yrd carry). Recently changed to Oban CT115 - and hate them (they feel very active) even though they perform well. What could it be about the nippon 950gh's that I enjoyed? And do you have any recommendations to try?

Both are important. When A.J. does fittings, he will find a profile that works first, then optimizes ball flight and trajectory with weight.

When AJ fit me, he put me in heavier shafts because I needed the weight to keep the consistency. I was bringing the club back to a different place every single time when I was using lighter shafts. That's not going to create a consistent swing.
