    That’s a great video. Sometimes I’m not sure what to use although I generally use seafoam. Sometimes I’ll use seafoam then I will use Marvel mystery oil then another time I will use the product that you used and my engine runs smooth as smooth could be. I have 150,000 miles on my Hyundai GTI and it runs amazing. I change out the transmission fluid every couple years and I most recently change the serpentine belt and coolant and it runs like a champ.

    I just sprayed my 2017 Mazda3. I had 10Kmi on the car. I figured I'd do it now, and every 10-15Kmi to prevent buildup in the first place. I figure the best time to do it is when the valves are lightly coated and more easily removed. Hopefully, doing this, I'll never have a issue with carbon buildup. I also use a top grade pure synthetic oil with very low volatility. So it's less likely to back onto the valves.

    This stuff works when it is used as directed. The most critical step is heat soaking the engine. If you do not get the engine hot before using, it will not work as designed.

  • @tjhagerty

    you indicated in the early part of this video that this vibration was bad at cold engine start up and run. It runs better when hot. You went through the CRC process and then showed us the engine running hot, and much smoother. wouldn't it have run smoother warm, with or without CRC ?

    Crc smoothed out my Silverado idle. I cleaned the throttle plate, then sprayed through the brake booster tube because it’s a long distance if you spray after the MAF, also a baffle would trap some of the spray. I couldn’t believe it. I had some for a gdi Malibu of mine and decided to run a can through the truck just for the heck of it with no real expectations

    Good video, Nate! Saw the CRC video for this product but it didn't show how to use it so I headed over to your video in "suggestions" and now I know. I like to refer to the shelves of these chemicals in the store as "cocktails for cars". Some work like this CRC product some maybe not so much but why not buy a 'treat' for your car every once and a while? Personally, I add a little liquid intake and valve cleaner on every partial fill-up especially when my preferred product goes on sale. When you're using a 10% ethanol fuel (87 octane in Canada) you need a little extra cleaner in the system. So far, so good.

    I used this on my Mercedes-Benz C250 with the DE18LA EVO CGI direct injection engine.
    After the heat soak my car started but I could push the accelerator to the floor and nothing happened, the engine did not respond. I had to put it in neutral and pump the accelerator and then slip back into drive to get the car moving. Once moving it seemed to be ok, I took the car for a 20 minute drive. I had to drive the car twice after that before that issue completely disappeared however.
    There was an improvement in engine response and fuel consumption but since I did this for the first time at 120000km, I think I need to do it again to really clean all the carbon off. Thanks for the video, glad to see the results you obtained.

    The fact that it uses PEA, and apparently a good amount of it in the can, as a detergent means that it probably will clean the valves, piston tops and heads of carbon. The question is how much of the carbon will get cleaned off per application. I have used PEA-based fuel system cleaners in a number of cars and I would say, generally, they do clean off at least some of the carbon. I had an 87 Porsche 944s in which repeated applications showed minimal improvement in engine performance, and only for a limited time. I bought a used Ford Focus with about 67,000 miles on it which was badly gunked up and after a couple of double-strength Redline SI-1 fuel system cleaner treatments the engine improved tremendously, running much more smoothly and more responsively. The two main factors that I saw in using a PEA detergent are time and temperature. Try to get the baked on-carbon as hot as possible, engine under load, and get it to absorb as much of a concentrated mixture of PEA as you can get, maybe double recommended strength in the tank. Shut the engine down and let it heat soak for at least 20 min, then restart it and let it get back to normal temp and then rev it and watch the exhaust at night to see how much carbon is coming out(the Italian tune-up). Stop when it starts running clean. Do this cycle several times until you get no more carbon blowing out the exhaust. I would recommend that you do the complete cleaning cycle before an oil change.

    • @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO
      @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you made alot of great points example time is a big factor allowing carbon to become baked on so i will try the redline product also thanks for sharing your story and information on the product that is whats most important here in the NIA community

      @Mic Mac I had mine cleaned at my 30K mile service, along with having the throttle bodies cleaned and the intake tract misted with solvent. The tech reported that the MAF sensors looked clean and that the throttle bodies had minimal deposits on them.
      I've been running a bottle of Redline SI-1 complete fuel system cleaner through the tank just before every oil change, at 3K miles. I also run a continuous maintenance dose( 1 oz/5 gal) of the cleaner at each fill up. I use Shell V-Power Nitro + and blend in enough Sunoco SS100 race gas to bring up the octane to 93, since the limit we have on premium here in California is 91 octane. My engine has about 40K miles on it now and still uses no discernable amount of oil on the dipstick at the end of my oil change intervals. Also, my exhaust tips accumulate practically no soot. I wipe the insides of the polished stainless steel tips with a white paper towel wetted with alcohol about every 6 months and only get a faint light brown residue on the towels. For these reasons, and for the fact that the engine runs very quietly, I think that this is a tight and clean running engine. The fuel cleaners I'm running may be contributing to the apparent clean running state of this engine, or maybe I just got luck with this particular car. In any case, I'm not complaining.

    My GDI car has done 91,000 miles, so I can guess there will be much carbon build up. I think it best that I do NOT try to do it all at once, or I could be dumping too much carbon junk at once into the system. I will do this but bit by bit, gradually remove the carbon over maybe 4 smaller procedures like this. Then maybe once every few months give the car a little burst of this stuff to keep it clean.

  • @TheRichardF10

    This procedure of using an intake valve cleaner is very critical to keep gasoline direct injection engines running at its best. Some people say that using quality top tier gasoline is all you need. That is true, but only except direct injection engines. The problem with GDI engines is that the gasoline sprays inside the combustion chamber and not in the intake ports. This leads to carbon building up on the backside of the intake valves from oil vapors. This is a fairly simple procedure to do on direct injection engines but I feel that people don't want to accidentally ruin something with the engine since most GDI vehicles are fairly new. This is perfectly safe to do for all engines and will not harm any components. I would always recommend doing this to all GDI engines to prevent carbon from excessive build up. Not performing this procedure could lead to an expensive cleaning process that requires a mechanic to take the cylinder head off and manually clean the valves. I really loved your video and loved how you did everything with clear steps to follow. I personally would have done the exact same procedure as you. I am definitely subscribing and will check out all of your content.

      It does. You hope you don’t have big chunks break off and score cylinders but it does pass through the combustion chamber, subsequently, out there exhaust valve/s, and into the catalytic converter. That’s why running it hot afterwards is key to just melt and blow any carbon bits through the honeycombs

      John B. Dunker ,I think someone has been pulling your Chimes,it won't damage your Turbo because the Carbon is on the engine side of it,this carbon build up on the inlet valves is due to oil mist from the engine breather baking on to the hot valve stems,this happens because there is no fuel going down the intake to wash the oil away,the fuel is being injected directly into the Cylinder,this Liquid Miracle will probably not remove this rock hard Carbonised Oil, decoke permanent solution.

    • @willhatfield493
      @willhatfield493 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John B Bunker. You are right that’s most of the process yet that carbon has to expel itself somewhere, if the carbon chunks or pieces are too large it can damage the small/thin fins on the turbo as it flows out the exhaust. It’s a small chance of such damage yet it’s definitely something to be aware of.

      That could be possible make sure if it has vvt variable valve timing oil level is correct also the rite oil and check air filter then make sure pcv valve is clean i have a video for all of these is this a direct injection engine if so use this cleaner at your own risk start there and clean throttle plate around it and mass air fliw sensor if it has one

    I have overboost code P0234. Does anyone know if this cleans the variable nozzle turbo vanes? I have heard that in order to clean this area of a VNT/VGT, one should clean from the exhaust side of the turbo (requiring removal of turbo). Can anyone speak to overboost code going away after cleaning with CRC but not removing turbo?

    don't know about the stuff that work or not ....but any liquid even water can get these result ... as your car throttle is little clogged up of regular driving its leads to lower idle speed ... when you spraying the crc the throttle are freed up now and idle is little bit increased too that's why you motor seems like running smoother then before ...which actually is ... no bashing about the product or method just talking about what happened here actually ... have a nice day ..take care

      Chris Ayres why does being a woman have to mean you cant use a couple hand tools and do some diy? I started a little older and from zero knowledge and if i can learn how to do general procedures like this, oil change, ac recharge, etc. pretty successfully then you can too! 👍 it’s a satisfying feeling and you save money. You become more in tune with your car as well, you’ll keep it in great condition without even trying, just out of instinct

    scary if you have a turbo GDI....I tried it and even with the same setup on the seat and pedal, It stalled my engine....I would try again by would need to skip over the turbo and have someone in the seat to raise the revs when needed, this stuff will drop revs hard.

    NEVER use a solvent based engine running cleaner with ANY GDI engine!!!
    FYI, On Coloradofans dot com website
    Under title "Intake valve cleaning results and learn from my mistake", A person called "GDI" says the following.....
    NEVER use a solvent based engine running cleaner with ANY GDI engine!!!
    On tear down we see the scouring from solvent based cleaners. There is never a case where engine damage will not occur!!
    GDI deposits are very hard and abrasive crystalline and a small portion will be loosened with a solvent based engine running cleaning. Those that are broken loose are similar to pouring some sand in your intake as the hard abrasive particles cause scouring and damage.
    The smaller ones are forced between the piston and the cylinder walls, and the scouring may be minor, it is still damage and increases with every treatment.
    The scouring caused by the smaller particles forced between the piston and cylinder wall is generally not severe enough the first time to notice the increased blow-by, but is cumulative over time as more cleanings art performed
    And that does not take the catalytic converter into consideration. The debris and solvent when it hits the red hot catalyst strata causes it to shatter and clog
    ONLY a proper manual intake valve cleaning will be safe and not cause damage to the engine. ( like walnut shell blasting)
    That ^^^ is what "gdi" says, go read his analysis for yourself, and decide for yourself if you will use a solvent based valve cLeaner on a running engine .

    • @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO
      @NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The biggest problem is there is not a infinite amount of space of the buildup to accumulate so it will break off and cause damage if you don't perform regular maintenance and follow manufacturer's instructions.
