This all sounded bad enough until I was reminded that the game was also blacked out in Cleveland. Great job, NFL.
I abolutely hate the idea of Black Friday games. That weekend is the biggest week in football at high school and college levels across the country, and now the NFL is trying to dip into that. It's pathetic.

Very true. This is why I, as a lifelong supporter of the Cincinnati Bengals, have always considered the Cleveland Browns to be the worst team in our division since they were reassigned to the AFL as part of the merger. (Having said that, I do appreciate the built-in rivalry. I would just prefer having both games each year played at Columbus, as was originally the case. After all, Ohio Stadium could handle the crowds from both Paul Brown Stadium and Cleveland Browns Stadium.) Unfortunately, their fans aren't much better. People's Exhibit "A" on that point: Throwing bottles on the field.
At the same time, however, the Dallas 'Pokes and gypping their own fans also go together in the same way. It matters not if Tex Schram or Jerry Jones are in the front office. The best parts of that program were Tom Landry (who brought class to that sideline) and Roger Staubach (the Cincinnati Kid).

This is very similar to what happened in 1992 during the first season of the Premier League in regards to Christmas. Unlike in the US, in the UK there is a law that basically says that leagues cannot schedule games on either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day so that people can spend time with their families. This is the main reason why there are so many games in the Premier League on the day after Christmas (Boxing Day). However that year for some strange reason the Premier League scheduled a match on Christmas night between Oldham & Southampton because Sky Sports (who had the broadcast rights) thought it would be a good idea to show a Premier League match on Christmas night to get a huge TV audience. Unlike this the Premier League did the sensible thing & rescheduled the match to the final day of the season. For those wondering about the match, it ended with Oldham winning 4-3 in the last minute not only ensuring their league surrival but also relegating Crystal Palace from the Premier League.

As a former Jets season ticket holder and former resident of that area I'm thinking the placement of this NFL game on Black Friday will cause unbelievable traffic and congestion that I can't even imagine. And if the American Dream mega-mall next door is open...fughettaboutit. Having it at 3pm and not 1pm is better but this could get crazy fast. Good luck with this.

When viewers called station WAFB to question why Atlanta/Miami was not on, this rule was given as the reason for the blackout on the newscast that night.

It's a pretty open secret in the technical home city of that other team that the owner has been threatening for years to permanently move that team to London. This is why the technical home city kowtows to him each time he demands upgrades to the city-owned stadium and are now looking at blueprints for a new (most-likely domed) stadium on that site. That team owner also has been on a years-long quest to find new ways for his team to lose so as to claim a bigger tax write-off at the end of the year.

I knew the current NFL entity (née 1970) was as dumb as hell about TV, but never knew about this fiasco! Scheduling a game in a window when even the road team's fans can't watch it is some next-level incompetence. This was even worse than putting my Buccaneers in those national windows in '91 because unlike the 2022-23 Broncos having a ton of national spots, that wasn't a hindsight issue. I never got on the NFL for having the 2022-23 Broncos on national TV a lot before the season began due to the expectations put on the team and their popularity, especially in the Mountain West.

There are loopholes in the Sports Broadcasting Act. Friday/Saturday games are only banned from the second weekend of September to the second weekend of December; thus why in the last couple of weeks of the NFL season, they have Saturday doubleheaders.
And the reason why they were able to have the Black Friday game is because the SBA also says that as long as a substantial portion of the game is over by 6 pm local time; a Friday game is allowed. That's why the Jets/Dolphins BF game kicked off at 3pm Eastern. I suppose the next time there's a year where Veteran's Day falls on a Friday; the NFL could do a game.
