    It didn't look like a safety to me because it looked like the player was pushed backwards when he was tackled.

    The referee took the cowardly route. Citing a gag order when none existed is some nasty work.

    Looks like it's a safety to me. Hes contacted at the goal line but the tackler doesn't have control of him. The ball carrier tries to continue to avoid his grasp and ends up in the end zone

    West did the one thing as a football player he should never do: he put himself in the hands of the official. A clearly dishonest one, at that.

      Mike Stratton is remembered most from his 1964 tackle of Keith Lincoln that turned the tide in the AFL championship that season, giving Buffalo their first championship. Yes, the Bills have won it all in the past, so to speak.

    It looks like the last contact is initiated outside the end zone to me, so it probably shouldn't have been a safety. But it's also one of those cases where I can imagine a referee having a difficult time ascertaining the exact spot of the last contact. Given camera quality back then, instant replay was infeasible, so I could understand that an error happened - but I definitely don't think that justifies trying to weasel out of talking about it by citing a non-existent gag rule.

    • @bradenculver7457
      @bradenculver7457 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I mean, they can. It’s just we’d end up with replacement refs again assuming the ref union has a backbone. It is a little absurd the amount of authority the ref union has compared to the players union.

    • @ericradford2142
      @ericradford2142 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ players are released or sent to the minors, coaches and managers are fired, and workers get laid off or fired.
      A football referee’s job is a difficult one, but once you’re in the club, you’re in until you decide to retire.

    • @bradenculver7457

    What a joke. There's a lot to say about refereeing, but this one is just dragging a long gone man through the mud. Let there be no "gag-rule", but anyway, he never was obliged to give detailed explanations to fans and reporters, not even players - because an "explain me-rule" doesn't exist either. There's a reason, why there are no after-game pressers with the crew, like with players and coaches.
    Even if he made up a rule, it's a rule not relevant for the game on the field.

    I understand forwarding progress but he ran backwards and had his foot in the end zone. It depends where the ball was. It could have easily been called either way though. The rules now with catches is bs. But it gives the referees more control so they can decide games instead of the players. Just another reason I quit watching the what was the best game ever and is now a horrendous me me me league that is played by sissys.
