Metal detecting an old DROVERS ROAD in Perthshire, Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 XP DEUS 2

  • Another day another field, and this time joined by Martyn.
This is a previously undetected field and the farmer tells me there’s an old drovers road which runs across it. A drove road was the route ‘cowboys’ or what we call ‘drovers’ used to take whilst ‘driving’ their cattle to the market in town.
Fingers crossed the drovers had holey pockets!!

That aluminum lid is a cap for the end of a tube of chassis lubricant-grease- used to lube the tractors and implements they are using in that field. To load a grease gun you remove the old cardboard tube cartridge and replace it with a new one full of grease. Most of them today have a pull tab aluminum cap on one end and a plastic cap on the other end, but years ago they often had an aluminum cap like the one you just dug up, before plastic got so dominant.

    Hello Mr. Scottish Detectorist,
I never comment on any ones videos, but, I’m making an exception. Thanks to my son and his amazing detecting skills and love of history I’m now an avid detectorist of 2 years, here in Upstate New York, USA. I have throughly enjoyed your commentary on all your videos and your love of history as well. Thanks to YOU I have learned a ton about the coins and other relics you have found. Now, with all that said…the reason I’m writing you is because I did get a Garrett Ace 250 for Christmas in 2008, from my late husband, Dave because I really wanted to start detecting. Well I found a few things, mostly trash and gave up. Sooo, since that time I came to NY at the invitation from my son in my starting over. ANYWAYS LOL I got into the hobby-I’m an addict now-there’s no cure-thank God! LOL One of my finds back in 2009 was a silver coin. I decided to try some new cleaning methods and felt I could practice on this one large silver I had. I didn’t realize until I was rinsing the coin (shock-horror) I was able to identify it-completely-THANKS TO YOU! I wanted to let you know I smiled sooo big at my absolutely beautiful coin!!I was able to read the front of my find!! A Gorgeous George the 6th!!! The date is 1947. I really appreciate all your videos and the amount of dedication you have for all things old. You ROCK!

Just watching your video now and the item full of mud, at first looked as though it might be a box spanner(broken where a bar would have gone through, for leverage) but they were made of iron or steel. So if it proves to be non ferrous unlikely, so maybe a spigot of some kind for a barrel. It would have needed a gate to stop flow so that would have fitted at the broken spot maybe. Congratulations on a Million Views. Quite a landmark, no pun intended.

A bit of good indication of some great finds. To my mind bronze and lead indicate more good stuff is there. I think the day should be a tie, your 3 coins to Martin's two coins and two buttons. I think that perhaps your round thing with the hole in the middle may be the base of an artillery shell. Was there any military training in the area? Still, any day detecting is better than being bored with other stuff. Cheers from Texas.

  • @mattj6676
    @mattj6676 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't think that's a gun barrel, some muzzle loaders did have squared off shapes like that, but the bore is also not round, plus it's just too big. There's also a big taper in just the few inches of the item, it wouldn't be tapered to that extreme if it was a rifle or shotgun. I look at the wear on items for clues, it looks like the unbroken end has a lot of wear on it, like it was a foot or the end of a tool that got a lot of friction on it. I have no idea what it is, but there really is a lot of bronze in that field!

Could that bronze tube be a broken barrel from an old pistol? Is it bronze and not iron? That's what came to mind for me - the hexagonal end could have been the barrel exit, and the jagged part could have been where it broke as a result of a misfire? Not a firearms expert by any means, just what occurred to me.

    Oh yes.
Her wedding to the Dophane was massive, held in Notre Dame Cathederal and lasted 5 days, with what we would call scaffolding outside the Cathederal so that people could better see the comings and goings of the wedding.
Mary Queen of Scots was around 6ft tall by the age of 19 and was fluent in reading, writing and speaking in 5 languages.

Is it the end of a gun barrel? The old bronzy piece?

George 5th coins, the end of an artillery shell and small pieces of random rectangular copper alloy? A WWI practice firing range?? Didn't you say there were European troops stationed in the area?

I just keep wondering what is just out of reach of your coil? just under how far the plow can go. Could a 15 coil reach more glory?

Hi Tim…. It’s the what if’s that keep us coming back!! I often change direction in the field and wonder, what if I’d carried on straight 😂
I think at best the 13” gives and extra inch of depth over the 11” but what it really does do is increase coverage, but about 30% each swing, so I can cover far more ground in a day as a result. I’m not sure if a 15” would be an improvement or not, but we’ll see!!
