Thank You!!! I have the same brake system on my truck and now I know what parts are inside these cylinders. Recently my Hydromax Booster started leaking. after watching this rebuild I feel confident about rebuilding it.
This is one of the best tutorials that I have seen on TH-cam. You explained the rebuild process step by step, and your supporting documents and information were superb. The only issue that I saw was when you stated that the "flat side of the bearing faced toward the o-ring" I think that you ment to say the grooved side of the bearing goes towards the o-ring. Kudos to you for a very informative tutorial. Great Work My Friend!
Thanks man appreciate it! Ok so I had to look at the video again and service manual but the largest o ring does sit against the flat part of the split bearing. The curved surface of the split bearing touches the steel of the piston. This is why you need to put that zip tie on before installation or the bearing will ride up the curve and come off before the cylinder holds it in place.
Quality job man. Thanks for the super detail. Got our old ‘87 F600 6.6l running yesterday after sitting for 10 years. Gonna need to service the brakes.
Hi Rudy, great video and this is the exact issue I have on an old truck. I took screenshots of your o-ring list, but I am having a heck of a time locating the same ones. I successfully found 2 the top two on your list at the o-ring store, but can’t find the others. Would you still have your parts list you can share? Thank you
Absolutely great video. I will be starting my as soon as the O-rings arrive. Question- My foam filter on the end was crumbling. Can I not cut a piece of open cell foam to replace that?
A lot of good info in your video I now have a better understanding of how the parking brake works. It would be really helpful if you could post the document with the o ring sizes in your video description so it would be easier to read.
I have ATF fluid leaking from my parking wheel cylinder, does that mean my parking canister has failed. I just replaced probably 6 months ago. I bought a new parking cylinder thinking it was bad but now I’m thinking it is the parking canister going bad
If it is in fact atf fluid leaking it can only be coming from the parking brake canister. The service brake system uses normal brake fluid. More specifically, the leak is most likely happening around the white bushing that holds the black o rings since this is the only path to the brakes.
You are correct sir. I pulled canister off and you can see pieces of white bushing. Looks like it may have failed. Sucks because it’s only about 4 months old. It was leaking out of the expander cylinder. My question is if I replace my canister with a new one that I have, will I also have to replace the brake cylinder also since it leaked past the seals on that also ? I know it’s suppose to be dry thanks pete
I would start by replacing the canister only. Clean all brake parts up well with brake cleaner and see how it goes. The parking brake expander cylinder should be ok if it was only atf coming out of it.
I have found that when the maxis fail it will start to leak by the big O ring and seep out the back of the “can” where the release bolt is. When the internal brake cylinders leak they almost always wet the shoes and drip out the drum onto the inside of the wheel. Lastly they use different fluids, the cylinders use regular brake fluid (clear to amber colour depending on age) and the maxis use automatic transmission fluid (red).

Great video, thank you very much for your time and expertise
A very informative video. Complete and well filmed. Thank you for sharing what you know. I watched all the commercial to end ($). Happy New Year.
That sounds awesome. Thanks so much and can’t wait to rebuild these myself. What website did you get the O-rings from please.
Thanks. I got them from “the o ring store”
Wow thank you this was a very helpful video thanks again brother from Houston,Texas 🤘🏾

Amazing depiction and artist workmanship

Thanks. Ya that would be fine. Just keeps dust out of chamber.
Very helpful! Thank you
How do you adjust the brake shoes on this truck? I'm having a hard time adjusting mine . Thanks

Are you selling gaskets for the kit? You had to buy so many.
Do you have a list of the O rings/seals...or where I can buy the rebuild kit?????
I go through each one in the video during the rebuild. They make rebuild kits but hard to find.
Great video. Thank you
very well done great video😀

How did you know it wasn't the brake cylinders leaking and not the lucus
