I have also found that variety also helps keep the mind sharp. Even simple things like going to a different gas station or grocery store helps. Try taking different routes to and from work. Anything to break up being a daily creature of habit! Good luck guys!!

I'd love to train in the morning, except I already wake up at 3:55 for work lol I'm new to the Order of Man. In watching this video I was delighted in realizing I've been doing on the things mentioned. Sharpening my body, and my mind are two best things any man (or woman) can do. Make yourself a weapon, be sharp, and be ready. I spent the last few years being pretty lazy and lethargic, I let my body go after separating from the military, continued to be a heavy smoker, and drank almost every night. Early this year shortly after turning 32 it hit me like a ton of bricks that I needed to turn my life around, get healthy, and find that deep down motivation I used to have when I was in my early 20's. I started listening to Jocko, and warrior poet, and now I've found you guys. Its all culminating in seeing myself change and grow mentally, physically, and spiritually as I strive to become a better man for myself and my family, and it feels so damn good. Getting g back into the gym has been huge, and it also help me, someone whod tried quitting smoking multiple times before finally ditch the habit. Which after 14 years was a huge personal victory for me.
Man I appreciate your videos. I’m 28 and So Much of this applies to me and my life. I have a great work ethic. I love providing for my family and it gives me a massive amount of motivation and drive. I’m up at 5am everyday, at work by 6 and home at 430. I remember when I was young my dad would always come home mad, irritable, tired etc. I make a conscious effort to come home (no matter how bad my day was) with a smile on my face, charismatic, and happy to see my son and wife. Some days are tough but I remind myself the relationship I have with my father, is not one I want with my son or wife.
EVERY DAY 3 things no matter what for myself. 1-Some sort of work out/physical activity, 2-Prayer AND Meditation, 3-Read at least a chapter every day of self improvement (Finance, Spiritual, Intellectual, etc).
Ive started working out again recently, Ive started doing intermittent fasting as a restraint, I watch health, motivational, brush and fieldcraft, survival videos. So yes I fully love what youre saying.
I have changed so much with this man. Becoming better father son husband friend leader better self etc. For the excersice i do martial arts dumbells kettlebell and bodyweight military prison workouts combining those i keep fat off build muscle fight like a man confidence etc my kids now do animal movement with me jui jitsu amd boxing my life is getting better. My discipline has gotten amazing

I added one rule to the end of this that I think will help me in my personal, professional and “internal” life and that is: STOP COMPLAINING. My reasons are as follows: - if you have time to complain about it, you have time to work on a solution - Nobody likes to hear other people complain. You will drive people away from you and appear weak. - Action over words I’m going to try and go this whole week without complaining about anything and see what it does for me.

For me it’s the balance of the triad of Mind, Body and Spirit. To get your mind right you need to have a deep resolve in faith when they that’s Christianity, Taoism, Buddhism, meditation etc. that’s a daily exercise. Body= you’ve got to push yourself beyond your limits. 1 more rep, 1 more lift, 1 more mile and dedicate to finishing. comfortable being uncomfortable. Eating: change your habits. Stop drinking or limit it. Eat only what your bodies requires, take balance if nature, commit to sleep and a cycle. When you do this manually… you learn to “let go.” Let go of all the negative, pointless, egoic thoughts that hold you back. Your thoughts are now who you are. Read “change your thoughts change your life”. Never stop learning. Forgive yourself if you fall short. Start again tomorrow.
I got my first job at nine... pumping fas and cleaning windshields for tips. By nineteen I had already left home and travelled (lived) in three different countries. So nineteen is old for you to still depend on your mom... good for them for "throwing" you into the workforce. You will thank them soon enough when you compare with other same-age men as you live on.
@@kevions4 From my very first job, I had to keep hours and be there on time, plus my mom asked me to "contribute" half my "salary" to the house's expenses; BUT after all that it was a great pride that I was treated with respect and sat at the table and served ALMOST the same as my older brothers WHO WORKED, the ones that didn't work were given hell over that, but now that would be considered "violence" since you are supposed to love everyone "unconditionally" they say. When I tell some people about this they say that I didn't have a "childhood" but that concept didn't even exist until they invented it recently!! I cannot even imagine myself at NINETEEN still at home asking my mom about anything or depending on her for anything, in fact, at that age, I was SUPPORTING my mom and some of my YOUNGER brothers, I BUILT THEM A HOME, all the way from another country!! And that was the norm and natural for most kids my age at that time!! So along the way I learned this language (English) and Portuguese and some Japanese and of course Spanish, I put myself through school read a long ass list of the classics and many physics and math books etc... so to even complain or lament about my mom "throwing me into the workforce" at NINETEEN kicks me in the gut like a mule!! I would thank my mom if she were around for making me learn the ways of the world and having all those lessons and experiences I had (good and specially bad) at an early age!! I mean WTF is going on in the fucking world now!! Is this the type of men you want with you to back you up if the shit hits the fan?? Fucking A.

I started working at NINE, and though NOW people say it is something like "abuse" I do not regret it, but I learned to be so independent that by 20 I had already lived in several countries and learned other languages... but my first jobs were selling papers, helper in construction, watering plants and trees, simple errands for neighbors, carrying and gathering wood, so I learned to use tools that the kids no think is beneath them for some reason. But I did enjoy it.
Man the 3rd one restraint really blew my mind, ive been trying to make awareness of my weaknesses and when you said restraint it all made sense. I cant believe restraint is one of the 3.

I used to wait until everyone was sleeping to paint. The struggle to stay awake was real. Our schedules are so busy through the day I just don't have time. I started going to bed with everyone else and getting up at 4:30am and painting then. I went from painting 1 or 2 paintings a month to 1or 2 a week. Planning out a work out to add to that.
Here’s a recommendation: read the daily Stoic. Think about what it says and how you may have encountered similar situations in your life and how you handled them. 20 minutes of meditating will help you sort your thoughts and thought patterns.
Yard work baby! That’s what I do on my “rest day”. If I have enough coins I’ll hit the gym after, but usually between lifting and cardio bookending yard work days, I’m good. Won’t always be like this, I’m relandscaping my entire back yard, major earth moving, stump clearing, rock wall building. Ain’t just talkin mowing the yard ha. It feels like a full work out.
Amen to all of these. I excel at #1 and can attest that morning workouts set the tone for the rest of the day. The volume levels for Focus, Intention, and Effort are all the way up when I hit the office. I do need more Restraint when it comes to the icecream.... :)
Good tips. I will add that the ideal time to train is about 11:00 am. For most of us this is not possible due to work. Training first thing in the morning is not ideal because your body has not had time to fully get up to speed. I have done this however and still do it. You do not need to go hard but do something to get the juices flowing. Currently since I do not need to be to my day job till 8:00 am. I still get up at 5:00 am. I usually start by listening to something informative such as this video. For some reason that helps me wake up faster. After a few minutes I get up do some lite calisthenics and stretching. After that I do a little reading on whatever topic I am currently trying to improve in. After 10 minutes the initial bout of exercise had kicked in and I begin to feel restless. At this point I either grab some free weights and do a more intense workout or I hit the road for some walking, running or biking. This of course is a pretty ideal setup. For the first 12 years or so of my adult life I started work around 6:00 am. In this scenario I would maybe do 5 minutes of deep breathing and stretching. I would fast until I got home. I found this to be great for staying alert when getting up early if you are not a morning person such as myself. When I would get done with work I would go straight to the gym. Some days I would have a crapy workout but you always show up. Never base your decision on whether or not to work out on how you feel. Sometimes your feelings will be validated when you step foot in the gym in which case you can take that as a rest day. Always show up though. By doing this you will automatically be more conscientious about what and when you eat and getting enough sleep. Training with crap or not enough fuel in the tank or on little sleep is no fun. If you know you have to train and don't make it optional you will fix these areas in a hurry. Later in life when I built myself a gym in the basement I would either train right away when I got home or if I ran out of gas prematurely due to increased activity at the job I would eat then work on business for a couple of hours and finish my workout once my attention began to wander and my food had digested. In short don't worry if circumstances are not perfect. For about 5 years of my adult life I would only eat one meal/day due to digestive issues and a busy schedule. Because of this gaining substantial strength or size was not realistic however I was surprised at how much progress I made simply by showing up. I can't say I always had this attitude in fact it took the loss of two jobs and prodding from a boss and a roommate to Kickstart my motivation. Thank you for this channel. It is great that there is solid content out there for men such as myself who desire to be better men to learn and grow from.
Learning to play the guitar was one of the most freeing skills I have ever learned. I still remember the feeling I had when I learned my first song. I can’t overlook exercise either. A routine strength training regiment change my life.

@@zballar1 I started learning basic rock songs with simple chords, searched tutorials on TH-cam and went from there! The channel guitar lessons 365 with Carl Brown is my favorite! Find songs you like that are simple. Stay consistent. The first several months are the hardest, but once you get that you’ll be golden!
I think those three are so tightly interconnected that basically, when done properly, exercise IS learning and restraint, learning IS exercise and restraint, and restraint IS learning and exercise
Coincidentally I had started doing all of these things about a year ago, including Is getting my health and nutritionI in order, And I have turned my entire life around for the better
Good lessons. I'm 68 and have my daily practice down to a science. I exercise first thing after I wake up. Then I take my walk. Then shower and use the hard foam roller on my spine. Then I am ready to sit at my desk and open emails. If i am interrupted or skip it, i don't feel right and am irritable the whole day. I'm always learning new things and reading a book. The restraint piece is crucial. I lost 44 lbs on the keto diet and intermittent fasting, but it took years of internal battles over giving up ice cream, cookies, potato chips, etc. Even now, i know i should stop eating nuts and raisin every day as a snack. But i don't want to. I look forward to it. Porn is another activity that wastes so much time. We all have these battles. Good luck to everyone.

I work at 4:30am, and commute 40 minutes to work. While balancing work, and family. I am lacking the morning workout. But I can't get motivated to do it. Need to find a way out of the rut I am in.
Hey I just stumbled upon your content my man and you have some good stuff. These are skills that I was brought up in the 90s to early 2000s and I teach them to my son and it works tremendously especially for future heads of households. Men in their early to mid-30s in my age group have fallen short of the skills that they were taught. 👍🏽

At this point I either grab some free weights and do a more intense workout or I hit the road for some walking, running or biking.
This of course is a pretty ideal setup. For the first 12 years or so of my adult life I started work around 6:00 am. In this scenario I would maybe do 5 minutes of deep breathing and stretching. I would fast until I got home. I found this to be great for staying alert when getting up early if you are not a morning person such as myself.
When I would get done with work I would go straight to the gym. Some days I would have a crapy workout but you always show up. Never base your decision on whether or not to work out on how you feel. Sometimes your feelings will be validated when you step foot in the gym in which case you can take that as a rest day. Always show up though. By doing this you will automatically be more conscientious about what and when you eat and getting enough sleep. Training with crap or not enough fuel in the tank or on little sleep is no fun. If you know you have to train and don't make it optional you will fix these areas in a hurry.
Later in life when I built myself a gym in the basement I would either train right away when I got home or if I ran out of gas prematurely due to increased activity at the job I would eat then work on business for a couple of hours and finish my workout once my attention began to wander and my food had digested.
In short don't worry if circumstances are not perfect. For about 5 years of my adult life I would only eat one meal/day due to digestive issues and a busy schedule. Because of this gaining substantial strength or size was not realistic however I was surprised at how much progress I made simply by showing up. I can't say I always had this attitude in fact it took the loss of two jobs and prodding from a boss and a roommate to Kickstart my motivation. Thank you for this channel. It is great that there is solid content out there for men such as myself who desire to be better men to learn and grow from.
Learning to play the guitar was one of the most freeing skills I have ever learned. I still remember the feeling I had when I learned my first song. I can’t overlook exercise either. A routine strength training regiment change my life.
How did you start learning? What resources did you use? I want to start learning the guitar, it's one dream that I feel is still obtainable for me. Any insights are appreciated.
@@zballar1 I started learning basic rock songs with simple chords, searched tutorials on TH-cam and went from there! The channel guitar lessons 365 with Carl Brown is my favorite! Find songs you like that are simple. Stay consistent. The first several months are the hardest, but once you get that you’ll be golden!

Coincidentally I had started doing all of these things about a year ago, including Is getting my health and nutritionI in order, And I have turned my entire life around for the better
Good lessons. I'm 68 and have my daily practice down to a science. I exercise first thing after I wake up. Then I take my walk. Then shower and use the hard foam roller on my spine. Then I am ready to sit at my desk and open emails. If i am interrupted or skip it, i don't feel right and am irritable the whole day. I'm always learning new things and reading a book. The restraint piece is crucial. I lost 44 lbs on the keto diet and intermittent fasting, but it took years of internal battles over giving up ice cream, cookies, potato chips, etc. Even now, i know i should stop eating nuts and raisin every day as a snack. But i don't want to. I look forward to it. Porn is another activity that wastes so much time. We all have these battles. Good luck to everyone.

If Jesus isn’t your Cornerstone/foundation, working out is futile. Building your spiritual life and developing a personal relationship with God should be your focus point. All the other things will be much more effective if you secure your eternity. Please don’t think of this as Bible thumping. This life is just too short, but god sent his son so that we can have fulfillment here on earth.

I work at 4:30am, and commute 40 minutes to work. While balancing work, and family. I am lacking the morning workout. But I can't get motivated to do it. Need to find a way out of the rut I am in.

Hey I just stumbled upon your content my man and you have some good stuff. These are skills that I was brought up in the 90s to early 2000s and I teach them to my son and it works tremendously especially for future heads of households. Men in their early to mid-30s in my age group have fallen short of the skills that they were taught. 👍🏽
what type of skills (like specifically) do you teach your kid? Im 19 and trynna get on this stuff, but ion got guidance like that

That means being an example among brothers and sisters, cleaning, yard work, education, and having a job as a teen to help teach financial literacy. Loving Jesus Christ and being thankful for the opportunity to learn these skills for the future.

There are also some great craftsman and mechanics on this TH-cam platform who are really detailed in their profession. If you are a visual person like me you can learn a lot!
