I knew nothing of Red Volaert until almost exactly one year ago. I was a passenger in a car crossing the country and had a stop in Athens, TX at a fiddle contest where Red played a duo set and also along with the Western Flyers. He was a jaw dropping guitar player, had a stage rap that was hilarious, and he completely invited you into his little musical journeys like you were an old and trusted friend. I was a fast fan of his artistry. Today I learned that he is only 10 years older than me and I was totally shocked. I can't say that I've met that many old souls but he is truly an old soul if I've ever met one.
Redd your enthusiasm is breath of fresh air.you keep the true sound of a telecaster alive I wish the youths of today would take a leaf out of your book I get hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I listen to you play I love these interviews the true gent stand out of you don’t ever change your a inspiration
Redd is great... a man after my own heart... since I'm 72..."anything new and I switch channels" , I've been that way for over 20 years and have no regrets about it.😎🎸

One of the best nights of music I ever saw was Redd and Cindy Cashdollar at the Museum of Making Music in Carlsbad, CA about 8-9 (?) years ago. I was blown away by how unassuming he was and he absolutely can play his ass off! I always hoped they would return, but it was not to be. So, I’m moving close to Austin, TX in another week and I still won’t be able to see him play again! Really bad luck for me! Thanks God for TH-cam! Great interview!
Saw Redd lots in the late `70`s in Calgary when he was working the Alberta bar circuit. When Redd & his mentor Big George Moody were together on stage, they just tore it up!
Red is one of my all time favorites cause he's so down to earth. Never realized he had moved to VA so He's a lot closer to me here in WV. Maybe I could go jam with him. Thanks for having him on.
